The thing that annoys me with PETA is the double standard it takes on hunters who cull over populated heards, much like they euthanize cats and the like.
I understand we are talking domesticated animals with PETA, and their culling the stray heard with the hot shot is what scientists call painless and it serves a point. Why does PETA rails against hunters and their "butchery' doing the same thing in the wild, but at the same time feeding people?
I further understand that hunting is not always a clean kill, but I imagine it's no less horrible to the animal than it being hamstrung and ate alive by whatever beastie might elsewhile be doing the deed. At least mankind worries about its suffering and an ethical hunter will make sure its dead before he starts quartering it. A mountain lion/wolf/any other predator in the natural world won't make that distinction.
Like so many other organizations, to me PETA exists in a vacume of good intent and a hopefully achievable nirvana that can only come about by changing the way we simply are.
I don't like their odds and if they took a long hard look at themselves...short of killing off humanity so it can not take notice of how cruel true wild life is, their goal is unachievable untill there truelly is a Dr. Doolittle.
What also bothers me is that some PETA folks are reported to state that humanity and it's keeping of pets are the problem instead of considering what further troubles would arise if everyone sudenly let their pets go feral.
Its this kind of confused good intentions that cause problems or lead to people making fun of the orginization for trying to change the diverse mechanic of humanity to their pipe dream mission statement when they ask bands to change their names. They simply can't see that what it is, is simply what it is.
I'm all for animal kindness and wildlife preservation and whatnot, but their ways just don't seem natural to me, or make that much sense.
Maybe I've been too influenced by the vocal bad apples in their group, I'm just tired of some of them screaming killer at hunters and non- vegans.
Next time one of them euthanizes a cat I hope they go circle of life on it and eat it afterwards, otherwise they should feed it to a starving polar bear somewhere, or something equally nonsensical.
