Hmm. I'm gonna be a lame-ass stick-in-the-mud. It was OK. It almost seems like an adaptation of something else. Like a Nora Ephron movie or a novel or something. Just in terms of the "high concept" and the characters. The laugh track does sound very canny, like there's no studio audience at all. I think romantic comedies work better on film than in 5 minute snippets on TV.
The thing I liked about Seinfeld and to a lesser extent Friends was the randomness, the pointlessness of it all. The characters were the point. This show is all driving towards something, obviously.
Aly's great of course. Neil Patrick was good. The lead guy's kinda nondescript so far. The "olive" theory was indeed cute. The little rug-pull twist with the "Aunt Robin" was good. I just like to gripe and critique...and I want Lily to be as quirky and compelling as Willow.
Didn't it seem like 15 minutes of show and 15 minutes of commercials? Sheesh.
