Pilot - How I Met Your Mother - Discussion

I found it sweet and I laughed a bunch of times. Not perfect, but neither was the Friends pilot and look how that turned out. I'll stick with it. Alyson is good in it. She's great at drama and comedy.

I really liked this show and I think it shows that the sitcom is not dead. It had lots of good moments. Including the bit with the signal. Alyson was truly funny as was Doogie Howser (sorry I can't call him Neil Patrick Harris). It plays sort of like coupling but a lot funnier/ less sex. They really had me fooled for a moment and I was thinking hmm this might not be the best show if you're telling us this soon" but thenl he said "And that's how I met your Aunt Robin" It's definetly watchable. Oh and I think the olive theory is cute.

Hmm. I'm gonna be a lame-ass stick-in-the-mud. It was OK. It almost seems like an adaptation of something else. Like a Nora Ephron movie or a novel or something. Just in terms of the "high concept" and the characters. The laugh track does sound very canny, like there's no studio audience at all. I think romantic comedies work better on film than in 5 minute snippets on TV.

The thing I liked about Seinfeld and to a lesser extent Friends was the randomness, the pointlessness of it all. The characters were the point. This show is all driving towards something, obviously.

Aly's great of course. Neil Patrick was good. The lead guy's kinda nondescript so far. The "olive" theory was indeed cute. The little rug-pull twist with the "Aunt Robin" was good. I just like to gripe and critique...and I want Lily to be as quirky and compelling as Willow.

Didn't it seem like 15 minutes of show and 15 minutes of commercials? Sheesh.

It was ok, not quite sure that I will watch it each week. Although 1 episode isnt really enough, will tune back in next week to see if it gets better.

I liked it. It's OK, and Alyson makes it special. BTW, has she had breast augmentation?

I agree with the critics who said the laugh track sucks though.

I liked it a lot. I love Alyson to death so it only made me like it more. I love all of her scenes. I was also fooled at the end about that not being the 'mother' I was like 'what? nooooo I like her with him!' lol but yeah I'll be tuning in next week.

I thought her character was the best one, especially when they were in the cab and the cabby asked her if he hit her and she was like "he can't even spank me for fun in bed"

HA, when I heard her say that, I got that 'she's said something like that before' thought... and I watched 'The I in Team' where she's sitting with Buffy at the table and says, 'Everyone's getting spanked but me"... I think that's the ep... I could be wrong...

Anyway, I thought the show was alright... Aly definately made the show... And I'll probably watch it when I'm home... But yea, it's not the same...

I agree that Alyson sort of carries this show ... along with Mr. Doogie Howser. I'm a little unsure about how they can carry this storyline through more than one season, though. It seems to be a more movie-ish plotline, rather than a tv show's plotline. Whatever, I thought it was funny and I'll be tuning in tomorrow night for the next episode for sure.

I'm going to agree with most of you and say it was ok. Without Alyson though, it wouldn't be half as good. I like her character, she's witty and not stupid. I will keep on watching this..
