Anyone else thoroughly underwelmed? It definitely wasn't as good as the first one and the ending sort of caught me off guard. I'm assuming there will be a third movie, because if there's not, it really didn't tie anything up at all.

All-in-all, I give it a 7/10. Depp was brilliant, as usual, but it definitely wasn't what I was hoping it would be.

I haven't seen it, but I herd from a friend it wasn't as good as the first one. Funny story: My brother went to go see this in our local cinema yesterday and he couldn't because someone had stolen the film from the cinema, lol!!

^ LOL wow that's pretty amusing (although my heart goes out to theatre owners! lol) 😉

Well I saw it last night and I too was underwhelmed. I mean, it wasn't a BAD movie, and the acting I thought was just as great as the first, but overall I definitely enjoyed Curse of the Black Pearl a lot more. Wasn't leaving jumping up and down, you know?

Anywho, here's my main points of good/bad, for what it's worth

:GOOD:
🙂 Liked how true to character Will was, as well as Elizabeth's character growth from the first movie
🙂 They brought back some characters from number one, great to see (although I was hoping for the return of female pirate from POC1)
🙂 Like what they did with Norrington, think the actor did a great job
🙂 Some great humor lines!
🙂 Johnny Depp was brilliant as per usual, I love Jack Sparrow, and the tear he has just as Elizabeth ties him up, was so wow!!!
🙂 Had a few parts that definitely got to me!
🙂 LOVED the non-wedding scene and Jack's intro, both had me cheering!
🙂 The ending, although I thought was a LIL WEE bit cliche somehow, was very good (I actually expected Jack for some reason lol, was genuinley surprised when Barbossa come out... sorry for the butchered spelling there)
🙂 The paralells they made with the first movie (ie: dress floating in water reminded me of first scene in POC1, Will waking up on a ship to look up at Elizabeth, "Why is the rum ALWAYS gone??" <--HAHA loved that line!)
🙂 It was PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN DUDE!!!!!!!!!

:NOT SO GOOD:

🙁 Thought the reaction/interaction between both Bootstrap and Will, and Bootstrap and Jack was pretty blah. Could accept the reaction from Jack given his character I suppose, but Will I thought was far too underreacted to be seeing his thought-to-be-dead father.
🙁 Think Disney will have to be careful in the third movie that they don't move to something too unbelievable. There seemed to be a lot of things in this movie that the audience just kind of had to accept, and with the even more "mystical" aspects to the film, they'll have to be sure it's not overly cheesy or anything.
🙁 Was I the only one who felt like this movie was less Pirates of the Caribbean-y than the first? Like the feel of it was less upbeat, fun, that atmosphere that the first had that really set it apart from other movies; it almost seemed to be missing a little bit. Anyone else think I'm crazy?

So with that, I'd have to give it a 8/10, and I really did love it anyway, so if you haven't seen go now!

Huh? what are you talkin about? lol

Okay, so I actually thought the movie was really good. No, it wasn't the same as the first, but in order to make a good movie, its gotta be different. I don't understand the complaining about the ending...I mean the third movie comes out next July, and its supposed to resolve everything from the second, sort of the second half of the movie, kind of like Lord of the Rings.

The sub-plots in the movie were great. There was the overall story and then the little stories that make up the big picture and I thought they worked really well. I thought the characters were just as good, and I thought the fight scenes were in some places, better than the ones in the first.

I highly recommend that you see it, if you haven't yet.

I thought it was great!!!!
The criticism that I have read are somewhat similar to the criticism the second movie of the Matrix trilogy got. I feel the intent of this movie was to develop the returning characters, introduce the new characters (mainly bad guys) and lay out the story for the 3rd movie for next summer.
I fully expect the 3rd movie to be utterly fantastic because the 2nd movie definitely has made me eager for the third. Plus I can't wait to see Keith Richards and Johnny Depp on the screen together! It will IMO be one of those cinematic moments of history.

Angelic Slayer
Angelic Slayer
Good point! Agree witht the intent of the 2nd, hadn't thought about that but you're right
Omg, I really really liked it! I was like "Whoa" when I got out of the cinema. And yea it might have something to do with the fact that I saw the first one at home and not in a big cinema, but nah, the second one was awesome. And also, I didn't like Keira/Elizabeth that much in the first one, I never really like her much at all, but her as like a bad ass pirate was just super hot and awesome, geeh. I'm totally shipping Captain Jack Sparrow/Elizabeth! 😀

Yes, I did expect
it to be Jack to come down those stairs
as well. Of course, when it did turn out to be him when I saw it a 2nd time, i did a 'rock on' thing when he finished his line.

I thought it was so amazing, I saw it twice, the friday it came out and the monday after it (3 days-ish later). I have to admit,
I cried at the end when the Pearl was taken down. But not for Jack. For the boat.

I'm probably going to see it, at LEAST, 2 more times...I'm, sadly, a Depp fanatic xD

So, me and Joamna saw this movie the other day, aaand we both loved it, eheh. Seriously, I fell completely in love with Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow in the first movie.. But he was like the only real reason I liked that one, at least to begin with.

So I have to say that I might even love the second one more than the first.. Or, I loved more parts of it, kind of, lol.. Anyways it was awesomely funny and great, and I loved how it started off really dark, hmm

Yeah, ditto, Oh My 😀
I take back everything bad I've ever said about Keira, eheh, loooved her, mhm.

Joamna
Mm yeah she's awesome, yup.
I saw it today and what were the critics thinking..?
It was superb! and it does leave it open to the next movie as in more relationship issues resolving,
like Will seeing Elizabeth kiss Jack that will be addressed i reckon like a love triangle, and the return of Babosa, GREAT!
i was expecting the story to be resolved but hey, even thought the boots were Jacks as they came down at the end only to have a twist!

I also want to see the back story to Davey Jones, in the next film so can't wait to see the next one!
I do agree with Angelic slayer, though, but still it was good film!

Huh? what are you talkin about? lol

Lol
, the very last scene, when Wil and Elisabeth and everybody are in the one chick's house after Jack has died, and she says that they could bring him back, but they'd have to sail to the world's end... and then Barbossa comes out. I thought just ending it with that scene was the SMALLEST BIT cliche somehow, and just before Barbossa came into view and you heard the footsteps on screen, I thought that it would be Jack somehow (as unlikely as that sounds now lol)

And I'm sorry, but I have to say it: I LOVED
the kiss scene between Jack and Elisabeth!! The whole thing I thought was really well done! And the one scene when Jack says something along the lines of her being "curious" and that she'd go his way eventually (think after he says they should be married, or something). Thought that was just wicked! 😀

I'm just anxious to see how doing that to Jack (pretty much condemning him to death) is going to change her character in the next movie, something tells me she's going to be different somehow, and that the writers are SOMEHOW, someway going to surprise us with her.

I thought it was great.. i went and saw it twice lol!!! And there is a third movie.. its already being filmed... there is even a plot on a few sites.. thats why i wasnt too upset with the movie 🙂 woot there is another one 😀

I was a tad disappointed with the film. I just was expecting so much more and I felt like I didn't get it. I didn't like the cliffhanger ending, but there were parts I did like. I liked the kiss between jack and elizabeth especially will spotting them and I like that she chained him to the boat but then felt bad afterwards.

I also thought the reappearance of Norrington was funny! What a mess?!? I want to know more of Davy Jones story as I think that could be interesting... I did like certain elements of the film I think I was just disappointed with how the film ended and I also felt annoyed as we didn't get to see much of Jack, Elizabeth and Will together in the first film I loved their interaction, but in this film there was very little of it. I also didn't laugh as much in this film as I did in the first one!

Overall I still can't sit and say I thought it was fabulous, it was just too blah for me! 6/10

I actually loved this movie. I didn't think it was bad at all - a different kind of good than the first one, but not bad.

Some of the stuff they did was kind of outlandish - which was a staple in the first one, but I felt like half of the movie was clogged with insane stunts that nobody could pull of, like, ever. It kind of detracted from the experience, but not by much.

Also, is anybody pissed off that Will never gets hurt? LIKE, I DUNNO, EVER?! I mean, Jesus. I know he's Bootstrap's kid, blahblah, he's Jack's protege of shorts, blahblah, but goddamnit PUT A BULLET IN HIS SORRY ASS ALREADY. I'm not saying kill him, but DAMN. That annoys me to no end. How could he pull off half the stupid crap he does without so much as a scrape? Damn.

[/rant]

Also, I fell into absolute LUST with the
Jack/Elizabeth kiss
. HOT. omfg. Jack Sparrow owns me. .:lusts:.
