Possible Storyline to Make Spike Interesting

The setting out to kill Dru seems somewhat similar to Buffy and Angel in Season 2, but different enough that it might work, assuming that Joss would allow Dru to actually be killed, and if she isn't, it's just an exercise in futility.

Well obviously there needs to be some resolution to his quest if it were to be at all compelling. Personally Drusilla has shown herself to be too much of a threat to justify keeping her around for drama's sake. She isn't a new vampire, she isn't playing by the new rules. Somebody needs to target her for slayage.

It's stretching things to think that somebody wouldn't hunt down and kill so awesomely dangerous a vampire- after all she's starting to think big. First that insanity-draining demon and the human cult that she built around it, and now her new 'family' of vampiric children and Archeaus. If Faith doesn't manage to kill her I think it would be something worthy for Spike to accomplish.

Spike having to work with Robin Wood could lead to all kinds of excitement and drama, but why would there have to be any reconciliation? In fact, how COULD there be? Robin sees the monster who kills his mother every time that he looks at Spike. Nothing is apt to change that, but why should it have to be changed? Having the two of them be forced to work together when neither one trusts the other could make for a very interesting story.

On the one hand- Wood is not Holtz. I can see some grey in his reasoning as to what he did to Spike (i.e- he knew the difference between soul and demon, which is why he wanted to kill the demon- hence the song) so he mighgt mellow slightly. I don't think warm fuzzies- but maybe some sort of detante.
On the other hand the reluctant allies thing certainly hasn't been done in that way- so that could be interesting/fun. 🙂

Having thought about it the SFPD thing is a bit gimmicky though, and too close to Angel Investigations- working with Detective Kate.


Basically if I can see potential in a character I get frustrated with that potential not being met. Willow and Faith (characters I actually care about) are two other examples who could get there own, interesting stories.

 

Spike and Buffy would be together in all these scenarios.

That's the problem- Spike at the moment is just 'Buffy's boyfriend', he's at the Angel in Season 3 stage.
If he's going to get any character development it needs to be AWAY from this relationship that's dominating his character to his own detriment.

If Spike got a mini series - with Wood or working with the police – the job could be a temporary mission – and he would still be with Buffy, who would have stayed in San Francisco (they don't need to be glued to each other – mature relationship, after all). Same thing if he started working full time with Dowling, on BtVS.

Only if Spike got his own title – like Angel did so many years ago – then, it would be hard to keep them together.

Besides, if Buffy and Spike stay together, the "soap-opera" that some of you complain so much wouldn't exist anymore; Buffy focus would be again on slaying monsters and kick ass all the time, same with Spike.

Something needs to happen outside of Spike for him to get the impetus to change/grow. That means breaking up with Buffy, since with Buffy he just seems content to do whatever it is she's doing- which, as S10 so far attests to- is kinda dull. The lack of substancial drama between these two isn't very compelling.

Yep, because that's how all Buffy-verse relationships work. The couple happily stays together with minimal drama. When has that ever happened?

The Spuffy stuff that we've had, fairly non-stop, for a couple of seasons should come to an end, because it isn't doing Spike's character any favors (or Buffy's for that matter)

Go and check out the other Hellmouth where Robin Wood is? They could have some sort of reckoning/reconciliation and team up to fight some Big Bad. Sure there are slayers guarding the place (but Cleaveland is a big place) but we don't know what happened to them post-Twilight. Maybre they bugged out.

Now, both of those comics I would read.

Btw- I said Faith and Scoobies not just Buffy because I want more original interactions. I want to see Faith talk with Xander, Dawn with Connor, Buffy with Gunn- there are tons of old/untried things out there, not just unconvincing romantic ships...

Look at Spike when we first meet him. He positively loves himself, loves being a vampire, doesn't try to be anything else. Meanwhile, right now Spike tries to be a human, seriously. Tries to be Xander, tries to be Riley, tries to be the man he thinks Buffy needs him to be and that's why he is lame! You're the coolest #@%!ing vampire on the planet, stop trying to be anything else!

Of course, I'm not suggesting that Spike should be evil, kill people and whatnot - it's nothing like that but for goodness' sake, he is dead, do the maths. He can't get old. He can't get ill. He can't overdose. You get what I'm saying? He loves to fight, right? Loves a challenge. So here's an idea. Spike makes a list of 10 worst vampires and demons he's met since the 19th century and then hunts the bastards down, not because it's the right thing to do, he does because it's fun! Actually, make it a 100 - Spike's 100, yeah, here's your title!

I agree with your general sentiment, but I don't know, I think that Spike's more a part of the gang than Angel ever was. He interacts with all of the scoobies, not just Buffy. For example, I can't imagine Angel going to a pub with Xander to talk about life and bitches, or playing cards with Dawn and whatnot. This is the solution to the Buffy's boyfriend problem - develop and strengthen relationships with other characters.

For example, I can't imagine Angel going to a pub with Xander to talk about life and bitches, or playing cards with Dawn and whatnot. This is the solution to the Buffy's boyfriend problem - develop and strengthen relationships with other characters.

That would be something if Spike had a character arc outside of being with Buffy but he doesn't. Xander has 'ghost Anya', Dawn has 're-set emotions'- they all have a thing that is not related to Buffy in some way.
Except Spike- he doesn't have space of his own to grow and be defined by anything else. Even the whole 'Big Bad' Archeaus plot was mostly about Spike's insecurities about Buffy being in his head, Angel coming to visit, etc.
There's nothing wrong with that per se (yawn-worthy but whatever) but a character needs something more- Riley and Angel didn't, which is why they left. They went and got their own life. Spike should do the same.

I do like your idea for Spike's 100. That I would buy! 🙂

Now you have a point. Besides, Buffy likes some monster in her men, so... Spike, stop being so... human. Spike is part William - good boy, who likes poetry and to woo his lady; but he died, and he has been living for hundred of years, so yeah, please, show some of this fantastic experience, use it, be the vamp he is!

Exactly. Angel arrived, fell in love with Buffy, caused chaos and drama and left. He doesn't know the Scoobies - including Buffy - as Spike does, because he didn't live enough around them.
