Preemptively staking Vampires in waiting.

Hmm...she probably has to wait until they turn. And if they don't technically turn until they are awake, then no. But if they are turned the moment they die, then you'd think yes.

I disagree! I think it would work and it's a great idea. I mean, even if they aren't 'turned' until they wake up, when they wake up they will have a stake thru their heart so it would make the whole waking up thing a moot point. Would wake up and turn to dust.

I don't see why it wouldn't work, I just don't think that Buffy would be able to walk into the various mortuaries and morgues to perform the staking on any sort of regular basis, and while she's sneaking into one mortuary to stake one potential vampire, half a dozen may be rising in the cemeteries.

On a similar note, how does embalming effect the process?

We do see Buffy hiding in a coffin along with Dawn and Xander in separate coffins in one episode where a woman has been placed in a funeral home. The newly-dead woman turns and is immediately staked. It appears she had to wait until the transformation was complete.

Similarly, when Spike gores on his killing spree in Season 7, a number of vampires rise and are staked by Buffy.

I think they are just corpses until they are reanimated. So staking before the vampire wakes up in the body wouldn't accomplish anything. Although I see your point, put a stake through the heart and when they wake up, wood is already in the right place...I guess that would work
