President Donald Trump

Hillary is a lying, murderous viper. Purely out for herself, without ANY redeeming qualities
Yeah, that is the problem. Hilary is militaristic, aggressive, and thus dangerous in external policy.

Alas, Trump is anti-women and anti- LGBT and ultraconservative.

I am from Germany, so I have to accept whom people have voted for. However in my opinion they are both not very good candidates, so regardless who won I am a little scared and disappointed.

I think non-Americans, especially Europeans, are not used to seeing leaders who do not have a track record of public service. It's very strange to me that a country would elect someone to such high office who has done nothing in the political field. But maybe it's the way to go and Trump will prove that the political 'elite' deserve to be pushed aside, and tv personalities can run a country. Can't wait for PM Claudia Winkleman . . . actually that doesn't sound too bad 🙂

I do not know about that, I do not see there is a problem with Trump lacking experience in politics, I think there is a problem with the ideology he promotes. But as I said Hilary is as bad as he is for me.

A friend of mine said that US-Americans had the choice between the plague and cholera, really I could not agree more.

@Anyanka Bunny Killer I wanted him to tell the truth. If the country owes her gratitude then he owes her an apology for a smear campaign against her to whip up hate and votes. If she's a crook who belongs in prison and has been wrecking the country then why as a President is he praising that behaviour?

An apology? Really? This is POLITICS. "Smear campaigns" are the norm. And she did the same thing. ;)

He's not anti-women. Hillary's campaign people started that rumour, and unfortunately, many people seem to believe it. Yes, he's a bit old-fashioned and can appear a bit chauvinistic, but he loves women. And he doesn't bend over backwards to be politically correct, and says what's on his mind.
As for LGBT, Trump realises that many people are tired of the sudden rush to placate the Hollywood left...to make everything legal. This is one of the MAIN reasons we saw so many states go red last night...and it happened quickly. The small counties of old South, the people that no one really considered, rushed out and voted.
Ultra-conservative? I don't think so. Just not a flaming liberal.

In the UK there is a backlash against the political elite and career politicians, and I think that's what's happened in the US. Is it the same in Germany?

I also think when the world gets scary people want strong conservative leaders who hark back to a better/safer time (one that may not have actually existed).

I always liked Hilary, she's dedicated her whole life to public service, which some may see as self-serving and maybe I'm naive, but I respected her for it. She spoke out for women and minorities, which I also respect, though we'll never know if she'd have been so pro when she got into office.

If Bernie ran instead of Hilary, do you think he'd have beaten Trump?

I think there is a big problem in election campaigns and especially in US ones. The candidates try to be fancy and tell a lot of things, which have NOTHING to do with the political program or real problems. They just play on peoples fears, emotions and the other candidates really or invented weakness. That makes a rational choice less possible.

Well he is celebrated in Russian media as being traditional and conservative. Anti-Hillary Russian politicians stress how Hilary is bisexual and has an affair with her secretary and how Trump supports traditional gender roles and traditional families. That surely has nothing to do with Hilary alone, although I have to admit, that Russian Tv or any media is not very trustworthy, and yet, I am not so sure about him not being anti LGBT and anti women.
However, aside from the campaigns I suspect that he will be pragmatic having experience in business and thinking the business way.

Yes. I also think if Bernie ran as an Independant (which is what he is) then Hillary would have won. The millennial vote was really low and Hillary lost women and african american voters from the previous election.

Yes, it is a general phenomenon in Western societies. Here in Germany the AFD a conservative nationalistic party wins a lot of seats in federal parliaments. Though it has mainly something to do with the anti-refugee movement we have here. I agree with you on the leaders.
I do not like Hilary , really would have preferred Bernie Sanders, even if he is a little old. Thus I also really wonder if Sanders had a chance against Trump.

They may be the norm but that's no reason to excuse or accept it. I'm no fan of Clinton and this was always going to be a bad day but it doesn't do anyone any good to ignore his behaviour just because she's doing it. It is possible to have a better standard of politician but it won't happen while lying as often as you breath is accepted as part of the job.

It would have been very different. Trump wouldn't have been able to so easily pass as an anti establishment candidate and man of the people. He also wouldn't have had such an easy target with so much baggage. So we'd have no doubt seen a campaign based on name calling; socialist, communist, Marxist, loony left etc. I don't know how it would have played out but these words often scare people whether they understand them or if they accurately describe a person or not.

I cannot understand how anyone could vote for such a 'person' as Trump and what he represents in society

Honestly, it's a pretty good bet that what tipped the scales in Trump]s favor in this election was the people voting AGAINST Hillary, who realized that voting for one one of the Independents was simply throwing their vote away.

Let's stop pretending Hillary is a good person.

When the news media collectively do all but totally ignore all of the corruption and dishonesty that has been associated with the Clintons for the last 30 years, what can you expect. Like the late, great Will Rogers, all that most people know is "what they read in the newspapers," and see on TV. When you only see one side of an argument, you can't make an honest judgement.

Wow, some people actually believe in Trump?

No, we put our HOPE in Trump. We know that Hillary would be sor sale to the highest bidder as President. Maybe, and I emphasize, MAYBE, Trump will be at least a little bit better then that.

Do some people actually think that a businessman who went bankrupt several times and never held a political office in his life could be a GOOD president? Seriously?

Why not? The politicians and bureaucrats have just about destroyed this country within my lifetime. Maybe it's time for a businessman to have a shot at it. How can it get all that much worse, barring a zombie uprising?

Well we didn't have to wait long for Trump to show his insincerity. One minute into his victory speech and he's praising Clinton and saying everyone owes her a debt of gratitude. You simply cannot say this after building a campaign around how crooked she is and your wish to lock her up. One minute.

You can acknowledge a worthy opponent, even one who fights dirty, without being sorry that she got the a** kicking that she has deserved for way too long. I'm still looking for that Special Investigator Trump promised to put on her case.

It's very strange to me that a country would elect someone to such high office who has done nothing in the political field.

Donald Trump is a long way from being my first choice as President. I, and apparently the majority of the American voters, made what we considered the better of two bad choices. I freely admit that I regret the fact that the choices were poor, at best. Hopefully, Trump will recognize the fact that he isn't a skilled diplomat, and rely on the help and advise of those who are.

I'm no fan of Clinton and this was always going to be a bad day but it doesn't do anyone any good to ignore his behaviour just because she's doing it.

You've lost me here. Are you actually saying that we should penalize Trump for his behaviour, yet give Hillary a pass for doing the exact same thing?

It is really great to read posts from Trump voters to understand how things worked and why. Here in Germany many of my coworkers only wonder why and how stupid that choice was etc. etc., but now I can see a more detailed picture. Plus, even if I probably had not voted for Trump if I were US-American, the Anti-Hillary argument is very valid in my opinion.

No I'm saying that you shouldn't accept it from either of them. Call them out on it and not turn a blind eye because someone else is also doing it.

As I said:

"I could understand if they voted for him because they're ideologically right-wing, or because they hate Clinton more"

I can understand that some people may think that Hillary would be worse, and preferring Trump as the lesser evil. I don't understand people who think that Trump will be a genuinely good president - and some people (even here) do think that, even if you yourself don't.

I also think that the idea that Clinton is worse is ridiculous, but that's another argument...

Why not? The politicians and bureaucrats have just about destroyed this country within my lifetime. Maybe it's time for a businessman to have a shot at it. How can it get all that much worse, barring a zombie uprising?

1) The USA does pretty well for a so-called "destroyed" country. I really don't think that it's come to the point where it needs the "let's just give the job to ANYONE ELSE" solution.

2) It can ALWAYS get worse. ESPECIALLY for the USA - it has problems, sure, but it's still the most powerful country in the world, by far. You have a LOT to lose, trust me. Dangerous gambles like electing Trump are really not a wise choice.

3) Heh, you reminded me of this:

"...Unless they read Ayn Rand." 😀

As bad as Trump's behavior was, there's no comparison between groping some women, who were probably intimidated by wealth and celebrity status, and putting the security of the United States at risk just so that she could keep her emails out of public record. Immorality, bad as it is, in no way compares with treason.

I agree, wholeheartedly and emphatically. That's pretty much it, in a nutshell.

I'm also quite pleased that our relations with Russia should drastically improve. Because what's the point in having a good economy if our asses get nuked? A mushroom cloud on the horizon would certainly ruin MY day.
And Hillary seriously underestimated Putin. She may be a nasty piece of work, but she was completely out of her league with him. Plus, he's a chauvinist...he'll get along fine with Donald. 😛

That is also my hope and one of the few positive things I see in Trump as a president choice. Plus Hillary is generally very aggressive towards everyone in terms of other countries, Trump not so much.

Hillary gets no sex. Therefore, she takes it out on the world.

Except that it is apparently not treason, according to the FBI. It's not even criminal in any way. Clinton was cleared of all charges.

And it's painfully obvious that Obama had something to do with this. He did everything possible to ensure her victory. But it didn't work. The bitch still lost. Hurray for democracy!

Actually, Clinton was overly-prosecuted by the head of the FBI, because he knew that she would fire him if she became president. Clinton was cleared of all charges despite this overly aggressive investigation.

But as long as we're into the conspiracy game - maybe the 13-year-old rape victim dropped her charges against Trump because he payed her off, or intimidated her in some way?

Psht. I love how all these "victims" suddenly appeared out of the blue.

Like how all of these Email leaks suddenly appeared out of the blue?
