Technically, the American people elect the electors, who are then charged with representing them when they cast their votes. Also technically, the electors are not legally required to cast their votes for the candidate that their states chose. That's why, for the first time in my knowledge, there were groups of Clinton supporters actually urging the electors to not honor their states' voters wishes.

The subject of whether the Electoral College should be abandoned, and the President be elected by popular vote only, has come up several times, but until that system is changed, if it ever is, that is the rules by which the President of the United States is elected.

I'm still pissed that didn't happen. Sure, it might have totally ruined our government but it would have been fascinating to watch. Especially when you consider the fact that by not voting for Trump they could vote for whomever they want.

That's not true. They are legally required in many states, but the penalty for breaking it is minor. There were quite a few faithless electors in the last election. Just none of them mattered.

Well, that's pretty much what happened with our Civil War (the ruining, or at least disrupting, our government part) and you see where THAT led. That fascinating, we just plain don't need again.

On the other hand, having a former First Lady and her womanizing husband arrested and sent to prison would be just as bad, and I would really don't want that, either. Far better, I think, would be to just put this whole mess behind us, try to learn from our collective mistakes, and move on.

I am not delusional. And I am not speaking for all Americans. Clearly I am one person. But, the majority of Americans voted for Hillary Clinton. I just do not know why this is so hard to understand. I even attached a link backing up what I am saying.

you don't think it would lead to anything like that though, do you, if people went faithless electors. I don't think it would be anything dire, but it could really reinvigorate american politics... or destroy it. Would stay say it would be fascinating to see it happen.

Very good point! I guess part of it was the flashiness of Trump, and the fact that he is not a politician. I think that's why some people were drawn to him.
I do however, think some people were drawn to him due to other reasons that I will just keep to myself since I seem to have already offended so many people.

Guys, leave the personal attacks elsewhere.

And rather than going back and forth with "YES" and "NO" over and over let's try to have an actual discussion. Clearly what's missing is the distinction between majority of people who actually voted, rather than just the overall majority of all American people.
