QUESTION: Any Good TV Shows For Me to Watch

A lot of people have already suggested ones that I'd suggest lol. So many good shows. I'll add Fringe to that list. I'm behind on it-so I am not all caught up--but so far I like what I've seen!

- They should have an ensemble cast of characters, with each one having a very deep backstory

Big ensemble shows with a lot of deep characters: Game of Thrones and Lost.

- Each episode should be stand-alone, yet be a part of a larger story

That could apply to pretty much any tv show aside from certain sitcoms and procedurals.

- A comic relief, despite the serious undertone of the story

Comic relief in a dramatic story: Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Supernatural, Dexter, The Wire, etc.

The best thing about Cold Case is the music - they use music from the year the murder occurred and some of it is the most moving or entertaining music to set the tone of the episode.

Yeah, I agree, I discovered so many songs or artists through the show! They have such a insane soundtrack, they couldn't actually buy all the rights. This is why the series were never released on dvd (at least in Europe).

@Fuffy Baith I completely agree! Such a sad but beautiful show. I might rewatch a few episodes now 😉

here are good examples for TV shows i am watching

Torchwood, and any Joss Whedon-produced show ever.

Being Human syfy (there is a British version but the syfy is far better developed) perfectly fits each of these criteria factors. It contains a verity of supernatural characters sharing a house, a vampire, a werewolf and ghost, the acting is phenomenal and the development is very in depth and interesting. The vampire character in particular has very involved and in depth backstory. If you enjoy Angel as a character you'll enjoy this show and it's reformed vampire, Aidan. The blood cravings here are treated uniquely like a heroin addition. Each episode contains a slightly different struggle but is still part of the same overall story and while there are heart wrenching moments there is also light hearted humor.

This was the show that got me over Twilight 2 years ago and opened me up to vampire portrayals such as in BTVS and Angel. So I may not be here if not for this show.
The first three seasons are available on Amazon on DVD and Blu ray but we are still waiting on news of the fourth and final season which just aired at the beginning of this year.
