Question...do you think your buffy boards persona matches your "real life" persona?

Being gone a while this might not be the best thread to make the first post in many months but lets try and deal with it. No matter if you "know" me or not. The biggest thing is that I don't have one real life persona. It all depends on the situation or mostly how comfortable I am. I wish that wasn't the case but it is. I see myself as extremely shy and in real life it can be difficult to get me talking at all and I can seem very antisocial. Not a problem for me, I often prefer sitting in the dark corner observing others. I hate being the center of attention. At times though you can't stop me talking which should be seen as a compliment since it means I'm pretty comfortable around that person but I imagine it can get annoying fast.

I'm guessing people would describe me in no particular order as either kind, thoughtful, shy, arrogant, brooding, overthinking and insecure in real life. How that compares to my online persona others have to judge.

I really hope that I come off the same way on the internet as I do in real life. But it's hard to tell, I don't really know what people's opinions are of me. But surely everything I say on the boards are things I would also say in real life. The only difference if probably that I swear more in real life, and I probably use sarcasm more. Sometimes I'm weary of being too sarcastic on a board since it doesn't always come across as sarcasm.

I'm with you a bit. I don't think my sarcasm comes across properly online. But I use a lot of sarcasm as my humor. I curse a lot, and I can be pretty vulgar and inappropriate IRL. I'm pretty anti-social and shy though in person. Not really sure how I come across here.

I like how we're all very different but can relate through being sarcastic vulgar people in real life! It's fun to deploy sarcasm; not many of my friends pick up on it and that's always entertaining, watching them try and figure out what the hell I just said. I'm also the kind of person who hates awkward silences with a vengeance and at least tries to get the conversation started, even if the other person doesn't wanna talk. I'm no stranger to vulgarity, either -- at least half of what I say is in some way inappropriate and/or at the expense of whomever I happen to be conversing with. I don't go overboard to the point of being a blunt a-hole, though.

Honestly, the things I talk about on this site are for the most part pretty different from the things I talk about in real life. I don't ever talk about BTVS offline, and I almost never talk about sports here. I suppose I act the same, its just two totally different worlds for me.

Good point, I never talk about BtVS in real life. Few people even know I go on this site. It's not like I'm embarrassed of Buffy, it's just that few people have 1. seen the show or 2. are actually interested in discussing a show that ended 10+ years ago.

@Fredikins I've done that a few times actually. Or even better, I like replying to someone with a quote, it always cracks me up, but of course I'm the only one that knows that. I think the worst I've ever done is someone asked me for advice concerning a serious(ish) issue, and I quoted a TV show, they actually thought it was great advice and thanked me for it 😛 Never had the heart to tell them it didn't come from me.

I'm with @Mr. Pole in that I don't have a "persona". I'm pretty much what you see/hear/read is what you get. I'm a pretty closed off person both online and IRL; I don't share many personal life things online in general. I'm just me. 🙂

@Blaze I would say I make a BtVS reference at least 5 times a week in random settings. It's really funny when I do it at Bible study, because another woman that's in it watches an ep every Tuesday as part of date night with her husband and loves it, too, then there's this other woman who just turns up her nose at it. It's hilarious. I'm currently doing a rewatch with a friend of mine who is a priest - he watched some eps when it aired but never saw it in order and hasn't seen much of AtS, so we're watching those all in order. I shall keep bringing more into the fold! 😛

This is an interesting topic; something I've never really thought about. But I'd say I'm pretty much the same here as I am in real life. Except for my language, since I've been told I have a filthy mouth.
I'm friendly...to a point. Quick to anger but generally pleasant. Basically if you're nice, I'm nice. At first meeting I'm not overly friendly (like my sister) but after I've checked you out I'll speak more. I love communicating but I love being alone even more. And I REALLY have a problem with jumping to conclusions...(like, "you're being mean to me and now must pay" haha) though oftimes my conclusions are correct. Sometimes not. 😛 My neighbours have learned to say good morning and keep walking. Love being friendly but don't trust people much.

I'd say I'm pretty much the same minus the swearing. Like the joke says, swearing is like a comma to Scots. I find it hard to be anyone else but myself, irl too. When I was younger I'd care too much about what people thought of me but I really could not care less anymore. I don't think I piss people off, or at least not intentionally, so as long as I'm happy people can think what they like when they see or interact with me. I hate to pigeonhole myself to make others comfortable.

On the boards, I have no idea. I've come and gone over the years so maybe no one remembers me. 😀 One thing I will say is that I'm much better at expressing myself when talking than writing. If there were such a thing as audio posts everyone would be sick of me.

Now that I think about it, this is the ONLY place on the internet where I think before posting. Everywhere else, I can be extraordinarily unpleasant and opinionated...but here, no.
Jumping to conclusions, going after people who've been rude, quasi-stalking those who've annoyed me...I've been banned so many times, it's amazing.
But HERE, I'm like a "normal" human being. Fascinating. I actually LIKED it here so much that I modified my behaviour. That's a first! 😉
