Rank the Star Trek TV series?

Discovery hits on Monday and I'm interested to see what they do with it. But in what order would you rank the past TV versions? To me the orginal series from the 60s is the most interesting. You can rank the films too if you like?

My favorites were:

"Star Trek" (obviously)
"Star Trek: The Next Generation"
"Star Trek: Enterprise"

None of the others really grabbed me all that much.

I've heard mixed reviews on the new show. On the other hand, the new series, "The Orville," though not in the "Star Trek" series, has, so far (3 episodes) been much better than I had hoped that it would be.

We'll see how Discovery goes, I'm excited to see it when or how I ever manage that without Netflix.

I hope people realise though that Fuller was brought onboard to create one series, and instead wasted the studios time and money trying to make an anthology series instead. They "removed him" from the process early on and more or less built Discovery separately. His impact on the series was largely taken out, but that's what happens when you get paid a lot of money then stiff people doing something you weren't meant to.

I only hope they rescued enough of the series from him to make it decent.

Haven't watched the original series and can't remember the movies good enough to rank them.
I rank Next Generation and Deep Space Nine fairly equal though.

Really wanted to like Enterprise. Loved the settings but I think they failed to take advantage of its possibilities.

Looking forward to Discovery but I have not idea what it is about.
Hopefully it will be a classic Star Trek series and nothing to modernized...

In case it matters, I'm not much of a Star Trek fan...I like it well enough, but I'm just a casual viewer. (But there are some novels I love.) And that means I have not watched a series all the way through.

Deep Space 9 generally interested me the most, though I wasn't even a huge fan of this show. If I was given a choice of anyone of ST series to get the complete collection to then it would be this one. (Though I think one of my favorite fun episodes of ST was Trials and Tribble-ations in which some of the DS9 crew went sent back to the Trouble With Tribbles ep of TOS.)

After that...I'll go with TNG, especially later seasons, and then Enterprise (though I don't think I've seen more than 5 episodes, and maybe not even that much), and finally TOS. I wasn't much of a fan of Voyager (though I liked how it started off) and typically only watched it if others around me were, and I don't think I ever saw a single ep of the animated series.

I'm generally neutral to the movies, finding them watchable but not worth watching a second time. The one exception is First Contact which was a bit fun and had some moments I enjoyed, even if story-wise I much prefer the novel Federation (this is one of the novels I loved) which portrayed Cochrane very differently (and I think truer to TOS depiction of him). Technically, I guess Nemesis is an exception since I hated that movie, however interesting I found the premise. I did see Insurrection twice, but only because I wanted to imagine how utterly different it would've been had it been Kirk who stumbled into that battle (as he'd have supported the other side as he was a big believer about working for a living and not going soft in paradise).

I have mixed feelings about the reboots. I didn't bother to watch the last movie and have no plans to, but don't regret seeing the first two.

My main experience of the TV shows come from the older brother. Am planning on watching the original series properly soon. Will give discovery a watch.

Wrath of Khan, The Voyage Home and Star Trek are my faves from the movies.

If you like Enterprise, then try the Star Trek: Horizon fanfilm that takes place with the NX-04 Discovery during the Romulan War. Nearly every "set" is CGI which is a first.

For TOS fans, Star Trek: Continues is a good (if annoyingly connect-the-dots-y) season 4-5 of the show leading up to The Motion Picture. Episode 9 just came out with John de Lancie as a guest star and it's a good episode.

I admit, I haven't watched that many but those two stand out.

Just...avoid Alec Peters and anything to do with him. He's already stolen over $1.5million of fans money and taken to court by CBS over it.

I remember now, this was the book that actually got me to wanting to watch Star Trek, when I don't think I'd seen any episodes of any of the series yet (though I had heard of it). I believe I was 15 (but possibly give or take a year), and I do recall it was a new book promoted at the library so that I saw it, and I got it in part because I was curious what Star Trek was about. I still wouldn't actually see that much until I moved in with some fans that had a lot of the shows and movies on video.

I like Voyager most (and captain Janeway most too). DS9 after that.

I've seen NG so much that it's worn on me. Plus, I don't like the pervasive smug self-satisfaction and over confidence in the enlightened future.

Same here...even the special effects weren't too impressive. And I never felt like I was watching a real Star Trek story.

Best Trek films:

The Search for Spock - Dr McCoy (DeForest Kelly) is carrying around Spock's "essence" in his head. Sarek tells Kirk that he must find a way to bring Spock and McCoy to Vulcan...so things can be put right.

Pros: There are some HILARIOUS moments....especially when the Excelsior is ordered to pursue the "stolen" Enterprise.

Cons: Kirstie Alley chose not to reprise her role as Saavik. Robin Curtis replaced her, but wasn't as intriguing (and cute) as Kirstie.
Merritt Butrick (Square Pegs) as Kirk's long lost son, David, was ridiculously inept in the role. Klingons killed him. Yay!

The Voyage Home: Definitely the best-written, funniest, and most creative of all the Trek films. An alien probe is trying to communicate with the Earth species, humpback whales. But the probe is so strong, it disrupts the weather and every power source on the plane and beyond, including all starships and planetary defenses. Kirk and crew (on a commandeered Klingon Bird of Prey) intercept Earth's planetary SOS call. Spock discovers the alien probe's message is directed towards the oceans, to the humpback whales. But the whales are now extinct, and to answer the probe correctly the crew have to go back in time and grab a couple of whales so THEY can tell the probe to piss off.

Pros: This film is perfect. You'll be laughing your butt off, I promise. Imagine the crew trying to find whales in San Francisco...or this:

Kirk: [Explaining Spock's odd behavior] Oh, him? He's harmless. Back in the sixties, he was part of the free speech movement at Berkeley. I think he did a little too much LDS.

Dr. Gillian Taylor: LDS?

Cons: None.

First Contact: The Borg have launched an attack on Earth, and destroyed several Federation starships. The Enterprise joins the fight, but is swept up in the Borg ship's temperal wake. They soon realise that the Borg have gone back in time to stop the creator of warp from Earth's first contact with aliens. Picard decides to intervene.

Pros: 1. Deanna Troi gets sloppy drunk and falls off a chair. 😀
2. The battle between the Borg and the Federation starships showcases some of the best effects I've ever seen.
3. Alice Krige as the Borg Queen nearly steals the film.

Cons: The story lags a bit here and there.

The Kelvin universe movies were the first part of the franchise I bought on bluray, I got the Beyond set with the model of the Franklin.

I've gotten Enterprise and the 50th Anniversary TOS/TAS boxset since.

Still holding off on TNG, see if maybe they'll fix that awful season 2 remastering job.

Sounds like we see things kind of similarly. What was your opinion of Wrath of Khan? I still think that is the best Star Trek movie myself.

Well, it was better than Star Trek: The Motion Picture. But not one of my favourites.

The Voyage Home is definitely the one I can watch over and over again.

Star Trek: Discovery has been emphasizing with pride that they will finally explain the reason for Klingon forehead ridges that were not there in the original series. The genetically altered DNA of a 'Klingon Augment' (using experimental human technology) infected with the Levodian Flu Virus (that spread) is the reason for the lack of ridges in Kirk's time, explained in Sar Trek: Enterprise episodes 'Affliction' & 'Divergence'. Do your homework people. And what's this about a ban on all reviews prior to airing? Not a pleasing sign after the insulting 'Renegades' and then all the delays while breaking every ST 'rules of roots' there is. First they try to destroy Star Trek with the movie 'reboot' and now on TV. That's low. *sob*
Challenging the spirit of Arts&Crafts is truly baffling (and stupid, imo). Still, Star Trek will survive, despite that, showing us where the true might is

Actually, Discovery's Klingons are a new sect that we've never seen.

They finally reveal there are 24 Great Houses of the Empire, that make up the ruling council and only from those houses can the Emporer be chosen. The Duras Family's plans over TNG and DS9 are meant to have been them trying to make their house one of the 24 by having House Mog (Worf's) removed since before the time of Enterprise (where a Duras was at least still serving in the Klingon Imperial Forces and possibly an ancestor of Colonel Worf from TUC running around).

They're hinting *all* Klingons exist. The Augmented (ENT/TOS), TOS movie variation, TNG-VGR biker viking kind, possibly some from the comics (maybe even the weird Albino Klingons from "Who Killed Captain Kirk?") and now this new bestial breed that hide from the rest of the Empire, some fanatical religious cult family.

There are now about 4-5 sub-races of them.
