Bonkers describes it perfectly! šŸ˜‚ The bee scene was by far the best part of the movie. It was a fun watchalong! I'm NoMoreBagels btw. šŸ‘‹


On to my movie watches for the week...

The Discreet Charm of the Burgeoisie (1972) - 8/10

Party Girl (1995) - 7/10
Gosh I love this movie! It's a product of that era, and just so much fun! There are so many memorable scenes and quotes, namely the Natasha scene, and the whole "imitate a cat puking" ā€Šscene was hilarious! Plus, Parker Posey really brings the character ā€ŠMary to life. I highly recommend this gem!

When Michael Calls (aka ShatteredSilence) (1972) - 4/10
This one is a mess. It was more confusing at times than it should have been, and you really had to suspend disbelief at several scenes. Worth watching just for the bee scene though!

Just out on Netflix. Had the potential to be a smart, funny film with a message. It fell short.
 
This is Not a Test (2026) - 3/10

Another very by the numbers, dull and dumb zombie movie. Olivia Holt was the only real bright spark but even she was given a thankless role. The film gave me no reason to really root for any of the characters outside of her. The constant flashing back and forth really started to grate and didnā€™t add anything.

An entertaining nostalgia filled trip down memory lane.

Eight Legged Freaks (2002) - 4.5/10
The spiders and special effects were great but the rest of the movie didn't grab me. The whole desert chase scene was fun though!

The Red Shoes (1948) - 9/10
I really loved this one! Anton Walbrook absolutely nailed the role of Boris Lermontov. Such a fantastically complex character, that captivated me from start to finish.

The set pieces for the Red Shoes ballet were stunning! And the whole film is very visually impressive.

8 legged freaks is so good! So fun and underrated! Itā€™s actually better than Arachnophobia bc both are scary (arguments could be made as to why a smaller spider is actually scarier than a big one) but 8 legged freaks is fun and comedic on top of it so I feel like itā€™s better. I just love black comedies though. And honestly I think spiders are a bigger fear of mine than I even realize bc I had a freaky ass dream this week about a huge spider; it looked like an alien species & had a bird in its mouth- I canā€™t believe Iā€™m on this tangent but you made me think of it and I havenā€™t seen 8 legged freaks in years. Thanks for the reminder šŸ«Ŗ

It's totally worth watching just for the spiders alone. I've got Arachnophobia on my list, hoping to get to it at some point this year.

Ugh, that is a horrible dream to have. I used to have major arachnophobia, but then I was introduced to jumping spiders and they changed me. Now I keep them as pets!

I am, however, still terrified of Black Widows. The speed with which those things come tearing out of their hiding spot when you disturb their web is absolutely bone chilling.

Been real busy this week, but I did manage to watch two movies so far.

Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999) - 6/10

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) - 7/10
I really could not connect with this movie no matter how hard I tried. I thought the pacing was way to slow. I get that its supposed to be a slow burn with a big payoff, but it just did not work for me. I really wasnt wowed by any of the characters either. That definitely happens from time to time in movie land, but it's a bit disappointing, as on paper, I should have loved it. I can definitely appreciate the merits of this one though.

Have you seen any of the other versions of Body Snatchers (I think there are three)?
@NotASlayer I only knew about the 1978 and 1956 versions. Just did some research and it looks like there are 4 films. I have not seen the original yet, nor the other two. I'll try to watch the original soon. I might like that one better.

I get so bothered when I watch a movie that I know is highly regarded in it's genre, and I can't connect with it. Films are totally subjective of course, but im always like, what is wrong with me. šŸ˜‚

I've watched all of them now. Body Snatchers is rather meh; The Invasion isn't bad. The original film was considered so disturbing they had to modify it.
The Devil Wears Prada 2

It was good, but not great. Emily and Miranda felt off at times, a few jokes fell completely flat. I think the script needed some further tweaking in order to improve the film. I did like the random nods to the original movie (via quotes or visual cues).

It was always going to be a challenge to come close to the quality of the first film, and I absolutely love that movie.

6.5/10, maybe a 7/10.

Neon City (1991) - 6/10
A real fun cult sci-fi film, with Juliet Landau! I think this is the first time I've seen her in something pre Buffy.

Backrooms (2026) - 7/10

Mostly strong but with a couple of questions. The performances are strong, but never sure I ever cared that much for the characters.
 
Disclosure Day (2026) - 2/10

It seems like a prank this movie was even made. They wouldnā€™t let BtVS reboot air but some people invested $115M into this?

I donā€™t know what got into me and made me think watching a new Spielberg movie in 2026 was a good idea. I feel ashamed for having spent my money to watch this in IMAX.

Over Your Dead Body (2026) - 2/10

If I see a worse film this year Iā€™ll be shocked. It was like being shouted at by the most obnoxious and unfunny people for the best part of 2 hours. So lame. Samara Weaving, Jason Segel, Juliette Lewis and Timothy Olyphant all deserve better.
