They Live 8/10 This was The Matrix of the 80s. And, unfortunately, still relevant. When it said "by 2025," someone watching with me said, "Almost there and right on schedule." (She also saw things reflective of today, one woman shown on TV making her think of "influencers" on social media as just the first example to come to mind.) The violence was excessive (as it was in The Matrix), but that was the 80s. Still, even the one watching it with me who has a sadistic streak was finding it a bit tiresome (costing it a point, but only one point).
I'd actually forgotten a lot of the minor scenes, like showing the place where aliens (and humans?) could travel to other planets, basically beamed there.
For some reason that I can't put my finger on, it makes me think of the movie Rogue One. Maybe the grittiness of it, the drones and other tech, maybe the blind preacher in one and the blind Jedi in the other...not sure. Perhaps worth noting that I've read the short story it was based on (not anywhere as good as the movie, though the ending did sucker punch me, which the movie paid tribute to, though a different ending to still be surprising--well, unless you know John Carpenter's style), and exposing the aliens started a major rebellion (which isn't part of the story), just as the events of RO then lead to the attack on the Death Star. I don't know, just guessing here.
