Captain America: The Winter Soldier - 7/10
This was pretty cool! I didn't like the first one, on the one hand because its weird cheesiness and overly simplistic plot, but The Winter Soldier was a big step up. I'd say it's the best movie of Marvel's Phase 2. I've read that some liked it better than The Avengers, but I didn't think it was that good.
What I liked about this film is that it was more of an political action thriller than a superhero movie. It has cool action scenes and the effects are fantastic, even though I think the fight scenes' weakness was the shaky cam. I liked that Falcon guy, but I thought he was cooler without the wings. It seems to me like they used him as some sort of Iron Man substitute, but I didn't think that was necessary.
 
The Legend of Hercules: 1/10

This movie was very poorly made in my opinion. The casting, acting, and special effects were all bad. Not to mention the story was just completely rushed. I am just happy I didnt pay to see this lol.
 
The Grand Budapest Hotel - 8/10
Totally awesome. One of the funniest movies I've seen in the theater. I loved the effects, everything looks so much like it's done with great passion, something that most of today's movies seem to lack.
And the cast... Wow. What an ensemble. Ralph Fiennes shines and Tony Revolori who plays Zero, the lobby boy, does a great job as well. Other actors include Jeff Goldblum, who is one of my all-time favorites, Jude Law, F. Murray Abraham, Adrien Brody and Willem Dafoe, just to name a few.
 
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (10/10) I've been waiting for nearly three years for the sequel to "The First Avenger," and it SO worth the wait! ("The Avengers" sort-of counts, I guess.) I loved the first movie, and this one equals it. It built wonderfully on the first movie, yet also evolved Cap as a character and took things to an exciting new place. Captain America 3 needs to be released ASAP, lol. 🙂

HEAT - 10/10

This is, in my opinion, the greatest crime movie ever made. Both Pacino and DeNiro at their peak, plus the greatest shoot out in film history. I prefer this to The Godfather and even to Pulp Fiction which is another favorite of mine.
 
"God's Not Dead," 9 out of 10

A beautiful, inspiring story about a college student defending his faith against a very outspoken atheist. Minimal violence, no profanity, no sex or nudity. A true family movie, something that there are far too few of these days.
 
Christine (10/10) Did an impromptu double feature of horror movies last night, which are always fun to do late at night, and I try to do one at least once a week. Anyway, I LOVED this movie. Great acting, great special effects, and they actually managed to make a car menacing. One of my favorites.

The Fog (1980) (10/10) The other half of my double feature. This is a fantastic movie. It's a wonderfully moody and spooky ghost story. This is perfect for late night viewing. Plus with a cast that includes Adrienne Barbeau, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Atkins, Nancy Loomis, and Janet Leigh, how can you go wrong. Forget the 2005 remake, stick with the original. Another favorite of mine.

Bad Teacher (8.5/10) Personally, I think this is a fun movie. Cameron Diaz really sells this foul-mouthed, drug smoking, gold-digging character. Just mindless fun.

Veronica Mars the movie 7/10
It was pretty good! And the geek in me loved that they had a little BTVS reference (Piz says that Neptune "really is placed on the hellmouth") As for the story in general I liked it with a few reservations... I don't see why Piz had to be in the movie (
There only to get dumped or rather repeatedly let down by Veronica? That's harsh man... seems like Piz fans would have done better being without him all together. I don't like Piz and I felt sorry for the guy...
, the Logan/Veronica connection was a little too fast for my liking
did he have to call their love story epic at the end? *gag me* I wanted Logan and Veronica together in the show but that nine years later without talking they still have each others phone numbers and just magically managed to mesh their lives together with little effort... unlikely.
and what was with the Weevil thing at the end?
Why? WHY? Did he have to get all ganged up again after they made you feel all good about him being a store-owner, dad and husband? Why? Maybe Veronica can't change but why shouldn't he?

Otherwise I think they did an awesome job getting the old cast in there. Dick was my favorite, gosh I just loved him in this... he kind of looked exactly the same too.

I read critique of it that said it wasn't much for non-fans who were only likely to get confused and I can see why that would be. As an old fan of the show however the movie pretty much met my expectations and I found it very enjoyable though not something I'm likely to re-watch ever. Once was enough. Story wrapped up nicely.

9/10. Brilliant portrayal of the effects of depression and how it can destroy a person's relationships, and a beautifully shot apocalyptic setting. Kirsten Dunst was a lousy Mary Jane Watson, but she was stunning in this.

Captain America: the Winter Solider
8/10. A real good time at the movies, but like everything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's dragged down by the fact that they don't work well as stand alone films. Still, the best of the Marvel films aside from the Avengers.

Evangelion New Theatrical Edition: Q
9/10. This thing broke the internet and Japan on the day of its release. I wish our film franchises kept as tight a lid on spoilers before release as this film did.
 
Mother's Day (1980) (7/10) I did another horror double feature on Sunday night. This was a pretty good, very sick and twisted movie. It's about two brothers who are basically little boys in grown men's bodies who will do anything for their loving mother, including rape and murder. There is kind of a darkly comic aspect to the movie. Not really scary at all, aside from the subject matter being disturbing and one or two scenes which had genuine suspense. Recommended for horror fans.

Motel Hell (1980) (7/10) The second half of my double feature. this one was also pretty twisted, yet darkly comic. Farmer Vincent runs a motel with his sister Ida. Every night they go hunting for the special ingredient to Farmer Vincent's famous meat. Of course, the special ingredient is people. This movie is also recommended for horror fans. I didn't find it at all scary, again just twisted.

Grindhouse (2007) (10/10) I just watched this again last night. Oh my god, I LOVE this movie! This is a throwback to 70s drive-in and grindhouse theater exploitation double features. Robert Rodriguez directed the first movie which is Planet Terror and Quentin Tarentino directed the sencond movie which is Death Proof. In between there are fake trailers for such gems as Machete, Werewolf Women Of The SS, Don't!, and Thanksgiving. Planet Terror is a blast, and the best out of the two movies. I really enjoy Death Proof as well. The two movies are good by themselves, but together with the fake trailers they become epic. The whole Grindhouse experience just puts a smile on my face, and makes me giddy with glee while watching it. This has become on of my favorite movies. 😀

Godzilla (2014) - 6/10
I thought it was OK. I think the whole first part was actually quite interesting, although I heard people complain about it. They thought it was boring, but I think it gave the movie more realism and meaning. Weirdly, it got a little less interesting when we actually get to see Godzilla, in my opinion.
Anyway, I guess it's, like, a hundred times better than the 1998 Godzilla.

Trainspotting - 8/10
I love this movie.
 
The Other Woman - 1/10

I thought I'd post a quick review here to try and spare any fellow Board members the misfortune of seeing this film. First off it's supposed to be a comedy. My general rule being that if it's funny and entertaining then any other issues with the film can be happily over looked. This isn't funny. The humour is mostly on the level of Date Movie, toilet humour. The verbal jokes are almost completely non existent.

With no humour to fall back on you get to the plot and characters. The plot is incredibly simple. Girls get revenge on guy. No twists, no interest. The characters are awful. All completely one dimensional and unbelievable, with Leslie Mann's character being just painful to watch.

To top it all off it's broadly offensive to both men and women alike. Even the dog probably wouldn't be happy with the script he was given.

A serious contender for worst film of the year, if you haven't seen it yet... don't.
 
Star Trek 9/10

Still as good, although the 2nd is much better (I mean, BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH!). I absolutely love Kirk and Spock's interactions, though. I prefer to see them in this one than in Into Darkness
 
The Librarian: Quest for the Spear
Its was cute, on netflix i give it a 3/5 so because we doing a different rating i would say 6/10 ? its something you can watch with kids ..
 
I watched a few horror/sci-fi movies within the last week. Mostly very good, some great, and one sadly mediocre.

I Spit On Your Grave (1978) (9/10) I've always been somewhat fearful of this movie because of its reputation and subject matter. Now having finally seen it, it is quite a good film with some strong acting performances. <Spoiler alert> The rape sequences in the film are harrowing and upsetting to watch. However, they are that brutal so that it makes sense in the second act when Jennifer gets her revenge against her attackers. This is a good film with some strong acting, especially by Camille Keaton who played Jennifer. I would recommend the film, but proceed with caution.

Bad Dreams (1988) (4.5/10) Somewhat of a snooze-fest. This movie feels sort-of like a rip-off of A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. It doesn't help that the main character Cynthia is played by Jennifer Rubin who played Taryn in Nightmare 3. There are some good ideas here, but the film reeks of studio interference. It was a kick seeing Bruce Abbot from The Re-animator and Harris Yulin (Quinton Travers) from Buffy. This movie just reminded me that I would much rather be watching Buffy, The Re-animator, or Nightmare 3.

Nosferatu: Phantom Der Nacht (Nosferatu The Vampyre) (1979) (10/10) This is a remake of the 1922 silent classic Nosferatu: A Symphony Of Horror. Nosferatu was of course an unauthorized adaptation of Dracula. I'm normally leery of remakes, but this one is a special exception. The 1979 version, like the 1922 version, is a masterpiece. The use of music and shadow create an ominous and foreboding mood that never lets up. The film is legitimately creepy and frightening. Much of this is due to Klaus Kinski's flawless performance as Count Dracula. I cannot rave enough about this movie.

Aliens (1986) (9/10) A fantastic follow up to the original Alien. I think Sigourney Weaver gave a stronger performance in this film. I loved seeing the character of Ripley evolve and show more layers. I slightly preferred the mood and tension of the original Alien, but this is a fantastic sci-fi/horror film.

Carrie (1976) (10/10) This is one of my absolute favorite films. Sissy Spacek gives a flawless and sympathetic portrayal of Carrie. It is mostly a subtle performance, except of course when all hell breaks loose. Piper Laurie is also fantastic as Carrie's psychotic mother. What I love about the film is how much the audience feels for Carrie. Whenever I watch the film, I'm with her 100%. This helps make the events in the film ultimately a tragedy. I'm always so happy for Carrie at the prom, then it all goes to hell.

Prom Night (1980) (7/10) This is a cheesy, but ultimately fun movie. It's not even remotely scary, but how could I not love Jamie Lee Curtis in her scream queen days with a totally rocking disco soundtrack to boot? 😀 Her disco dancing scene is worth watching this movie for by itself.
 
I've loved movies all my life, and can generally find something entertaining in even the worst ones. We took the grandchildren to see "Rio 2" this afternoon, and I slept through almost the entire thing. That's about the lowest rating that I can give to any movie.
 
The Town That Dreaded Sundown (1976) (9/10) This is a film that doesn't get mentioned much on "scariest movies of all time lists," if ever, but this is still one of the scariest movies I've ever seen. The only thing that drags the film not quite making it a 10/10 film are some hokey Dukes Of Hazzard type scenes with the police investigation. Other than that, it is a great movie. This film is based on the Texarkana Moonlight Murders of 1946. The attack scenes with the Phantom Killer are extremely well done. They are very creepy and disturbing. I've seen this movie a quite a few times in the last few years, and there's still something about it that gets under my skin.

The Evictors (1979) (8.5/10) This is a very interesting and creepy film. It's about this couple who move into a house where very strange things have happened over the house. Ruth (Jessica Harper from Suspiria) soon finds out that someone wants her and her husband out of the house, and will make that happen by any means necessary. The film has some great jolt scares, and a great creepy atmosphere. Jessica Harper is fantastic. Her expressive eyes say alot about the fear she's feeling.

Dressed To Kill (1980) (8.5/10) This is a very good and very stylish film. The entire lead cast is excellent. Angie Dickenson is great as a sexually repressed housewife who <SPOILERS> has an affair, and pays the ultimate price immediately actor. Nancy Allen plays a "call-girl" who witnesses part of Dickenson's murder. Soon somebody begins following her as well. Allen soon teams up with Dickenson's grief-stricken son (Keith Gordon) to find the murderer. Michael Caine plays a therapist who may have more than a few secrets of his own. The entire cast is great in this film, especially Nancy Allen and Keith Gordon. I liked the friendship they developed in the film.
 
Jeff86 - I spit on your grave (1978) is a great movie hard to watch the rape parts but you would get it and understand.
the remark of I spit on your grave (2010) you should watch its almost the same as the first one but Chad Lindberg is in it and for some reason
he did a great job even though i feel that it was a little rush in the end but thats just my point of view.

The Last Movie I saw CandyMan I think its from 1993 or something .. i just always was afraid of this movie seen it and loved it
