"What If..." starring Kevin Sorbo. It's another "It's A Wonderful Life" derivative, with Sorbo playing a man who left home to make enough money to afford to return, marry the love of his life, and then go to Seminary and become a minister. Things go differently, and he winds up a highly successful investment banker. An angel shows him what his life could have been with a wife, children, and the life of a pastor. No surprises whatsoever in the movie, but I've always been a sucker for this kind of story. Plus, it's nice to find a good movie these days that the entire family can enjoy that isn't a Disney animated feature.
 
0/10 - Spring Breakers
I... what... I... I don't even... what was that? Was it trying to be arty? Or edgy? Cause for the most part it seemed like some kind of Girls Gone Wild montage. The plot was pretty much non-existant. It's like four girls want to go to Spring Break, two of them are psycopaths, they're violent, they all party and run around until they met a loser guy and party and run around with him instead.

The only thing this movie is is an excuse to show off young girls with guns.
James Franco was pretty funny in it, I'll give him that, but he wasn't enough to make the movie watchable.

It's only ninty minutes but it seemed to go on forever. Dull, duller, dullest. Don't watch it. It's like an extended music video with dialogue that would have been better not spoken.
 
Every time I have to look at my netflix to see what last movie i saw. and I must say that the last one I saw I enjoy very much. its called evil sexy genius it has Michelle Trachtenberg and Seth Green.. I have to say that I didne pick this movie bc of them I just thought it would be a good movie and it was also Michelle is so hot in it. its like they took both of my fav buffy people and put them together ..
 
Miami Vice: 0/10: Poor acting, poor lighting, Terrible dialogue, needlessly convaluted plot, overly stylised rubbish. Pass.

In Too Deep: 4/10: Starring MMA fighter Gina Carino, some of the fight scenes are good, but the plot and acting is pretty woeful. Treat Williams wanders into the plot and then wanders out. Depressing.

Transformer: Revenge Of The Fallen: 1/10: How...just how did this get a sequal. 😕 This is a franchise killer, no question.

The Avengers: 10/10: At last. Thank you Joss, thank you Marvel. Plot, Action, great dialogue, one of the best superhero movies of all time, if not the best. 🙂
 
The mortal instruments city of bones 9/10
loads of actions scenes,jamie campbell bower there was only downside was there wasn't many romantic scenes with jace & clary so hopefully they will do another film of these series soon.
 
"Die Hard 4.0"

Which I didn't even know existed until a few days ago. Total cliche' about the super hacker who organizes a small army to run interference for him while he either 1) transfers all the funds in the Federal Reserve Bank into his own private account, 2) makes all the secret files in the CIA archives public, 3) launches all the missiles in all the U S silos at some target, or 4) some combination of the 3. But it's fun just to see how much abuse Willis' character can take and still fight the bad guys. He takes a lickin' and keeps on shooting, even if it doesn't rhyme.

"Maleficent"

Which really surprised me by how much I enjoyed it. We took our granddaughter to see it as a consolation prize for not going to the zoo, and it was great. I love it when they take an old classic and twist it around into basically a whole new story, and this one did the best job of doing that that I've seen in a long time. And "love's first kiss" took on a whole new meaning.
 
Lone Survivor: 9/10

So, so good, but very intense. War movies aren't really my thing, but my friend wanted to watch it, so we did. And boy was I impressed. The movie being based on actual events made it all the more tragic.

Got to watch it as well. I don't like war movies either, but I think Saving Private Ryan is just amazing.
The Avengers: 8/10 Finally got around to watching and I wasn't disappointed. Great and funny dialog and good action. The sound was a bit behind when I watched it, so that took away my focus a bit at the end, but I'll definitely watch it again and I think I'll enjoy it more when the lagging sound isn't driving me crazy!

The Prestige: 10/10 Wonderfully dark and beautifully told about the obsession and rivalry between two magicians. Absolutely wonderful acting performances by Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman and Michael Caine. Lots of twists and mystery to keep up the suspense. Loved it!
 
Locke - 7/10
If you need guns and explosions to find a movie entertaining, this is not for you. If you care less about special effects and mindless action, and more about whether the story is good, you might enjoy this.
 
I, Frankenstein: 3/10 Makes the 'Underworld' series look like high art by comparison.
Swap werewolves and vampires for magic Angel/Gargoyle things (?) and stupid rubber-faced demons and you have a hilariously dumb film. Bill Nighy is in it for some reason (fat stacks of cash?) as is Aaron Ekhart. Even the action, which should be its main selling point, is fairly ropey.

Under The Skin: 7/10 Deeply strange British Sci-Fi with Scarlett Johannson as a mysterious woman driving around Scotland picking up guys for some mysterious purpose.
Moody, weird but also oddly compelling, its not something I'd watch twice but it is an interesting film. Not for everyone though, disturbing ending and tons of nudity (both male and female) not withstanding.
 
August Rush: 7/10 sober. 10/10....otherwise.

Okay, so the movie is a little too schmaltzy for my taste. The story itself intrigued me, especially since it had to do with music. A young musical prodigy runs away to New York, all the while, his mother tries to look for him. Both parents were also musical prodigies, so they all have this connection. I saw this with a friend, and we were kinda....heavily medicated. Haha but dude the ending got to me a little bit. It's a really nice story, it was just almost too Hallmark-y for me. Still, I would recommend it solely based on how it showed the importance of music, and how we all connect with each other through its power.
 
The last movie I saw was Planes Fire And Rescue (yes my life has changed lots since giving birth) But what was significant about this theatre experience was that it was the first for my kid... his first time at the movies and he is OBSSESSED with airplanes and so he was so excited and behaved legions better than i ever could have expected for his first time... and so it was great... eventhough i dont know what the heck went on cause i was watching him the whole time 😛 10/10
 
The LEGO movie: 9/10 We got this out on DVD for my neice to watch and it was...just fantastic!
It was utterly madcap and inventive, funny, frenetic and really funny. It has some goofy moments and great characters. (Miss Unikitty and Batman especially 🙂

I'd recomend this to anybody really, not just kids. It has quite a touchhing ending as well. 🙂

Guardians of the Galaxy: 6/10


Please don't read my post 'til you've watched the film: there're no plot-based spoilers but I wouldn't want your viewing of the film to be coloured by my words here


I was really disappointed with this offering, as I've come to expect better from Marvel. The story was standard comic-book movie fare but the dialogue was atrocious. I understand that theoretically, these are almost kiddy films but I think 12-year-olds (the film was 12-A rated here in the UK) wouldn't have struggled too much with more nuanced writing.

I'd never heard of the Guardians of the Galaxy until the film was announced, so for me this was an introduction to new characters. I came away from the film feeling like a lot of their potential had been wasted. I loved the idea of these characters as I was introduced to them but as the film went on we had countless "I'm going to explain to you what we just saw" and "I must tell you my feelings, rather than actually emote" moments and they killed the whole experience for me. Maybe I'm spoiled for films like this by watching well-written stuff from the likes of Joss Whedon, but this is easily the weakest Marvel film since the two attempts they had to get Hulk right (a mess which Joss eventually cleared up, to some extent).

At one point, Karen Gillan's character is spewing some cringe-worthily cliché orders into a communicator and her character just storms off out of the scene. I am convinced the storm-off was not scripted and the actress was thinking "f*ck this shit, I'm going back to Britain".

I tried my hardest to like this film, and I applaud the leading characters for their efforts to assist me in that. It can't have been easy to work with that material, but there were moments when their talent shone through, nonetheless. The actors are almost solely responsible for all 6 points I gave this film out of 10, along with the basic plot. Everything else in this film would have gotten 0.

I commented on the walk home that it wouldn't surprise me if the writer/director (who I'd never heard of before last night) had come to the project right off the back of some straight-to-DVD Disney project. Looking into him today, I find he had a minor role in the writing of Movie 43 and was a writer on the Scooby-Doo films. With those on your record, how you get a big project like this is beyond me. If I was one of the people in a position of power at Marvel studios and I knew what was going to happen here, I would genuinely have looked into a monkeys/typewriters interface system before I let that guy work on the film.

The Rover - 8/10
Gritty post-apocalypse film starring Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson. Amazing performances! I was totally blown away.

The Exorcist - 8/10
One of the best horror movies of all time. I hadn't seen it in quite a while, and it completely exceeded my expectations.

Huh. I saw Guardians of the Galaxy the other day. I found it quite enjoyable and am happy to see James Gunn (whose previous film, Super, I also enjoyed) get a chance to do a film with about a 100 times bigger budget than what he is used to. The weakest part is definitely the standard McGuffin plot, but the characters were likeable and the action was well directed and creative so I was at least invested in the characters' fates if not in the story itself. Yes, it was more or less a kiddy film with zero blood, but with those restraints, it was well executed.

It does make me wonder if it isn't possible to come up with more interesting excuses for these characters to experience their space adventures. Oh well. 7/10
