Watched quite a few movies with my mom over Easter.

The imitation game: 9.5/10
Fantastic film. The right mixture of funny, sad, intelligent. Really, there isn't much bad to say about this movie, great performance by everyone. Seems faithful to the original story, although I must admit I don't know much about it beyond what I've read. The ending broke my heart a bit, the fact that such a brilliant man could suffer through such awful events.

Into the Woods: 6/10
This one was fun! Not by any means an oscar worthy film, but it was entertaining enough, and I love musical. Some parts made me laugh, I love how they make fun of the cliche's, especially the scene with the Prince brothers. And I might be slightly in love with Emily Blunt. Seriously, she's fantastic (and it has nothing to do with her being really good looking...nope, nothing 😛).

Unbroken: 9/10
Another good movie. I know the movie got some bad reviews, and again, I must admit I don't really know the story of the real Louie. But the movie for what it is was good. Yes, it's a 2h+ movie about torture and war, if that's not your thing you won't like this movie. As for Jack O'Connell, I am again bias, he's one of my favorite actor. But seriously, the guy is amazing, I've never seen a bad acting performance from him. He is truly excellent here.

Wouldn't quite rate TIG that highly but it was very powerful, nicely directed with some very good performances. I felt Knightly's character was a bit of a stereotype, but I do think it was more how the part of written and that she actually did the best she could with the role.

Agree with your rating on Into the Woods. The cast are good enough, along with some nice comedy and songs, it just feels too stagey for me, and I was hopeing for something a little more scary. Blunt is great😛

Unbroken really didn't appeal to me to be fair.

Written on the Wind (1954) 10/10

Expertly written malodrama. The pacing and characters are excellent, the cast really good, and the fluid use of colour, striking set design, and sweeping direction just all adding to make it a perfect film. Hollywood don't make films like this anymore.

Halloween 3: Season of the Witch (1982) 4/10

If anyone can tell me why its called Season of the Witch that would help because I don't remember much from the plot which fits with that title😱

Forgettable sequal, it is poorly acted, with ropey direction, and very little in the way of supense, or excitment. I did like that they kept Carpenter on to do the music and once again his score did add something to the atmosphere, plus the ending was truly creepy, and quite fun in a trashy sort of way. At times it was so bad it was kind of good and others it was just SO bad!😉

@JCoatsworth There are some decent set pieces like that yes, but this is always going to look much worse when you compare it to the classic original.

Six Men Getting Sick (1967)

Wasn't sure how to rate this, but its David Lynch's first short film which as the title suggests shows the progress of Six Men getting sick!😀 It is like an abstract painting brought to life, the range of bright and sickly colours running throughout provokes the sense of vision and smell, but they also blur the line between art and film. Also, the six men are represented more as distorted gothic objects such as you might see in Lynch's later films like Eraserhead or The Elephant Man, yet the colours and movement, plus the side of the siren gives them a sense of life, but a more abstract verison of life.

Halloween 2 (1981) 7/10

A sequal which sticks close to the atmosphere of the first film, adds enough to the story and remains tense for a good portion, plus Jamie Lee Curtis does a great job once again in the lead role. The danager and mystery of Myers from the first film has been a bit, and at times it the plot does get a little drawn out and predicable. But as horror sequels go this is one of the best.

The Raven - 2/10
Like... I should have known, just reading the back of the movie, what this was going to be. But I convinced myself that maybe it would be cosy and was worth a try.
Shouldn't have bothered. John Cusack used to be good right? This was just... ugh, not good.

It gets two points because of the production - lighting and exteriors were often of great visual appeal.

The Alphabet (1968) 7/10

Lynch's second short, an hauting satire on the neagtive effects of forced education. It neatly combines animation and live action to show how fragmented language can be.

The Grandmother (1970) 8.5/10

Lynch's third short and one of his strangest ever films. This foreshadows some of the themes in Eraserhead about fears over reproduction, and odd sexuality. It also reflects that Lynch is at his happist when he is left to dream up the world, rather than facing the hash realities. Oddly, powerful.

Eraserhead (1977) 8/10

Went to a screening of this at my local picturehouse. It has a real presence on the big screen and is a very unique debut featuring a nice monster-b-movie trashy design, combined with social satire, and a very atmoshperic and creepy industry sound throughout, but when it does use more conventional music it is truly dreamy and beautiful. I wasn't so keen on some of the dialouge moments, but it is a pretty thrilling and unforgettable experience.

Odd Thomas

I was pretty convinced that this was going to suck. I'm a fan of the books and really didn't think it could be pulled off . I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't amazing, but much better than I thought it would be. I'm so relieved they didn't mangle the book too badly. Wilem Defoe was good like he usually is, and Anton Yelchin as Odd was alright, still not my Odd though. 6/10

Culture High - 7/10
It was good, a bit rambling at times, could have been made into a series or maybe just two parts as they cover a lot of ground.

Milk? - 5/5
Inconclusive as one might have suspected. Drink it or don't. A long rant giving equal play to both opinions, interesting but kind of dull at the same time.
Though I learned that pretty much any documentary on food stuff, even just milk, kind of makes said food seem a bit gross.

The Lazt Nazis - 10/10
Interesting three part series from 2009. I really enjoyed it. The first episode was kind of frustrating (because of government screw ups in the past), the second one kind of chilling in a way and the third one was just really fascinating. I'd recommend it to anyone with an interest in the topic.

GMO OMG: Is this the end of real food - 6/10
It was okay. GMO's everywhere! Not really much news there but then it is a two year old movie by now.
It presses the important issue that if there's going to be GMO's then the foods should at least be labeled so people might avoid it if they wish.

What bugged me about it was how the filmmaker got his kids involved. At first it was fine, and seemed educational for them, but it started to get a bit frustrating when he was asking questions way above their level of genuine comprehension. It just felt like, towards the end, he was basically utilizing the innocence of his kids to make his point (like telling them about how grandma and grandpa used to run in the cornfields as kids, but now - for him and them to do it - they have to get into hazmat suits because now it's toxic! They do it and have fun but the explanation sequence is just a bit... eh. I wish he would have toned down the usage of the kids because he was getting the message across anyway)

It was kind of unprofessional but I felt like from the very start the guy was kind of frank about that. It was his journey to discover more about GMO's, which is why his family is so involved, but it got a bit too much after a while. He had some good points but they almost got buried in the rest.

It's hard to find entirely unbiased documentaries, in my opinion.

Avengers: Age of Ultron - 7/10
I don't think I like it as much as the first one, but it was entertaining. Some of the action scenes felt rushed to me. I think they should have taken more time for specific shots and let the visual effects breathe. Everything happens way too quickly during the action scenes, and you don't even have time to appreciate some of the really creative fight sequences. I also think the score was quite weak and generic, compared to the last one. 
@Mr Trick If you liked the other Marvel movies, I'd say it's definitely recommendable. But I wasn't as impressed as I would have wanted to be.
@Mr. Pole I'm kind of glad as well. Not that I don't think he did a great job, but making these Avengers movies takes over your life, I imagine, and I really want some original Whedon work again.

Like Nolan with Batman, Whedon is too good to stick long term with the avengers series. Like a friend of mine said he would become like a director for hire. He has left his mark now time to get out.

Avengers - Age of Ultron 4/5
Didn't give me the same wow feeling as the first one or "Guardians" which isn't a surprise. Guardians of the galaxy felt new and I didn't really know anything about the characters and even if the characters are known in Avengers having them interact with each other for the first time gave a special feeling. Entertaining enough and more laughs than I expected. I'll definitely buy it when it comes out. I must admit, the movie wasn't really as I thought from the trailer but I don't see that as a bad thing.

I said before it came out that I was sure it was going to be good but wondering if it'll live up to peoples expectations. I stand by that. If we hadn't had the first Avengers movie I think people would rave more about this one. Not that I think it's bad.

Agree. Because of that I'm sure I'll notice more the more I watch it.

This was a good movie, not as good as The Equalizer, which was a similar premise. Keanu Reeves was pretty good, his character was super bad ass. There was A LOT of fight scenes which is good, but I'm not a huge action person. My roommate thought it was stupid, but then again he doesn't like Buffy so what does he know? lol

This is not what I thought it would be in the trailers. It was interesting with the robot/AI stuff. But I thought there would be more action. And I didn't like the ending. It has a few "twists" that were actually kind of obvious if you pay attention. It was good, but I'm not gonna see it again anytime soon.

You know for all the stick KR gets he has actually been in quite a few good films over the years. The guy is way smarter than people give him credit for. And of course he was in Bill & Ted so he can't be all bad😛

Do you consider this to be a good thing or a bad thing? I think some of Maximoff's ultra-fast scenes would have been a lot better if they had lasted longer. Like the scene in Days of Future Past. Instead they immediately cut back to one of the other Avengers.
