Don't Breathe (2016) - 9/10
I saw it a few years ago for the first time (pretty sure I rated it here, after) but that was it. I decided to do my first re-watch tonight (I like to watch something while I'm eating) - it wasn't as good as I remembered; it was better. First time I was constantly worried, what with horror films going so downhill in the past 10 years (imo), but this time I knew it was going to be amazing, so I just kicked back and enjoyed it.
They have a sequel up on IMDb (with very little information) but it's looked like that for almost 2 years now, I wonder if it'll ever become anything. I hope not, as Rocky apparently wouldn't be in it if the short summary is anything to go by.

A bizarre, but distinct, creepy and funny British horror. Its very much on the surreal, trippy side. Really good performances too.

Even Robert de Niro and Zac Ephron can't save this. It is watchable if you like dick jokes but there are better movies of the same ilk.

The Black Scorpion 4/10
I have gotten into the habit of watching the Silver Screen channel which features all kinds of old movies, mostly in black-and-white. Some are good and this one was not. Geologists uncover a giant scorpion near a Mexican volcano that threatens Mexico City. The lead actors are OK but some of the minor actors act like they are reading from a teleprompter. Not everything was better in the golden age of Hollywood.

Jane Eyre (1996... I think, or 95) 3-5/5
Solid adaptation from the 90's. The quality of the actual footage is poor, but I don't mind that, it's just mood setting for me Anna Paquin is in it, as young Jane Eyre. She's great.
What I really liked about adult Jane is they got an actress who actually looked, kind of (I feel mean now), plain. But it was very credible for the part that it's not like Keira Knightly playing her. They also got a very good, awkward, Rochester. All in all, a good adaptation, but as usual, it is a bit rushed. They did great overall but the part where Jane leaves for a while was far too rushed, kind of cheapened her growth.

Once Upon A Time In... Hollywood (10/10)
I believe this is a masterpiece. Tarantino managed to subvert my expectations in the best way possible.
You have to reach a certain point in the movie to understand what it's about, but once you get there, everything falls into place and it's perfect! The characters are fun, human and interesting. The acting is superb and Leo and Brad have a lot of chemistry. It was so fun to watch those 2 share the screen together in a buddy-buddy way. It's a real love letter to Hollywood and I already want to watch it again!

It was good, but then so was the original version. However I don't think it got better being a live action, if anything the animals had less emotions. However it did do humour well.

The Prestige (Rewatch) - 9/10
I love this movie, it might be my favourite of all of Nolan's films. Really strong performances (maybe with the exception of Scarlett Johansson), a great story and several terrific twists which makes rewatching ever better, because you pick up on all the clues you missed the first time around. Just a great film.

Bubba Ho-Tep (2005) 8/10
Finally got around to watching this! And what's not to love? Its from the director of Phantasm and stars Bruce Campbell and Ossie Davies as two guys living in a retirement home, one believes he's Elvis, the other thinks he's JFK (even though he's black 😉) and they fight a Mummy!😀 Its funny, trippy and sort of charming too. Oh and kick ass music too!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (2016) 7/10
Slight improvement over the first film and more fun to watch, though it still has flaws. Thankfully, only a few cringeworthy moments this time. Standout characters are the Turtles of course once again. This film is the closest adaptation of the original cartoon we’ve gotten. It was great to see Bebop, Rocksteady and Krang for the first time in live-action.

Halloween 2018 (Rewatch) - 9/10
God, I love this movie. It's the best Halloween sequel out there and I love that it ignores all the other sequels and is a direct continuation of the original movie. More than that, I love that it's the first sequel to make Michael terrifying again. After the first movie, he lost all menace for me, and that sucked, because the first time I watched the original Halloween, Michael Myers scared the ever-loving crap out of me. Halloween 2018 makes him terrifying once more and I love it! It's also a pretty well-written film with great characterisation (especially for Laurie Strode) and very strong performances. Finally, a Halloween sequel worthy of the original movie!

I do love H20 (it's my second favourite of the sequels) and I think that as a late-90s slasher it works really well and is highly entertaining but I feel that Halloween 2018 much better captures the feel, tone and terror of the original film, and so I find it to be the better sequel. It feels more like a continuity of the original story than H20, at least for me.
