Spider-Man (2002) (Re-watch) - 7/10
I think people are too hard on the original Spider-Man film. It's entertaining and very comic-book-esque, it tells a great origin story which contrasts wonderfully with the villain's story. Yeah, it's cheesy and a little narmy and the CGI doesn't quite hold up, but it's a lot of fun to watch.

Yeah I enjoyed it at the time. Not sure how well it would hold up now. Second film was even better I thought.

I think it holds up a lot better when it's not being compared to Homecoming. It's not a bad film, but it's no longer the best Spider-Man film, either :)

The Lion King (2019) - 6/10
I haven't seen the original animated movie in a few years, but I often listen to some of the songs as they pop up on my Pandora playlist, so I was really excited for this. Director Jon Favreau did a great job with The Jungle Book, so I was super hyped for this. I'll admit I cried a few times throughout, the circle of life song gets me. lol. The visuals were spectactular, young Simba is so cute I just want to cuddle him (I'm a cat person). But I was a bit disappointed overall with the film, particularly the musical numbers. Although I did love Timon and Pumba. I posted a full review on my blog link below to read it. It's a good movie, but not as great as the Aladdin remake was or as the original 90's movie was.

Hairspray (2007) - 10/10
This is one I often revisit - in fact, I think this might be my third time rating it on this site 😛 I like revisiting it because it, to me, is such an amazing film, in both obvious and subtle ways. The serious setting of 1960s Baltimore - a time of segregation in the US - mixed with the humor and catchy tunes is such a perfect combination that keeps me coming back, time and again.
Avengers: Endgame (2019) - 10/10
I saw it in theaters, twice. This my first at-home viewing and it was just as amazing as on the big screen. Did I notice a handful of nitpicky flaws this time around? Sure, but the good far outweighs the minuscule questionable stuff that I never noticed on my first two watches (for a reason). Stunning, I will no doubt watch this over and over in the future, much like the one above 🙂

As always a bit late to the party, but I can see what all the fuss is about and why my nieces have Elsa (and Anna) fever. Solid film, great humor, good storytelling, great villain, great message.
Downsides: The songs really aren’t that catchy. Let It Go is a big deal I know, but the rest, *shrug*. Can’t compare to Classic Disney (I am, of course, biased). Also, I didn’t like Elsa’s dress.

I started to think the Kristen Bell one was a remake! Good on you! You saw a movie made in this decade.

The Dead Don't Die (2019) 7/10
Not top draw Jim Jarmusch but very enjoyable. His off-beat, quirky deadpan style added something fresh to the Zombie genre. The cast were really good. The film had smart dialogue and cool music. The meta stuff worked well too. Think I might look out for the soundtrack.

Jaws (1975) 10/10
Quite the week for me. I saw a screening of this last night at my local picture house and then am going to a open air screening of Jurassic Park this Saturday. Two of Spielberg's best at the cinema in one week! 🙂

Simply Irresistible (1999) 8/10
Decent film. I’m not really a fan of romantic comedies (usually lose interest in them after an hour or so) and wasn’t expecting to like this one, but there’s just something about this movie that I love. Has a certain charm to it. The main characters had good chemistry with each other and it was interesting to see SMG play a different character than Buffy or Kathryn from Cruel Intentions which coincidentally was released in the same year. One of her best films imo.

I thought this would be a typical romcom, really it is a long conversation between Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder as bitter people. It is interesting as literally no other character has any lines.
That said, was it good. No.
Was it bad, also no.
It just kind of is. The score made me furious after a while, and Winona Ryder’s acting choice for the character was...drunk. Regardless of whether or not the character was drinking, which was also annoying.
What this movie did remind me of, and reaffirm, was that I’d pretty much watch a movie where Keanu Reeves just watches paint dry. He is what makes this movie charming, and occasionally funny, but all in all *shrug* Seems like something that’s more fun for actors to make, than for viewers to watch.

Yeah that film bored me to tears! Think Reeves was miscast in it. Ryder did a little better out of it.
