A very smart, feminist retelling of the story. It has some clever plotting, creative set pieces and bags of tension. No surprise Elisabeth Moss gives a subtle and commanding performance in the lead role. I agree it does get a bit silly later in the film and I'm not sure it all adds up. But the final twist I actually liked quite a bit. It works when you think about the themes of the film.
Because the trailer for the new one dropped last week, I had to re-watch the original. As good as I remember it, eerie, unsettling and with a great villain played by the amazing Tony Todd (THAT VOICE! How does he manage to be both sinister and seductive??). Love this film and looking forward to the new one.
I re-watched this over the weekend, too 🙂 It still holds up really well. I'm hopeful about the new one. I'm glad its a sequel of sorts and not a remake. The trailer looked pretty good. It didn't have the same feel as the original movie though, but its hard to tell. From what I have read, the main character is the baby from the original all grown up which is cool.
I still will never say Candyman 5 times in the mirror no matter how silly it is 😛
Knives Out - 7.5/10
Super excited to see this movie, not exactly what I had thought it was going to be, not disappointed but different. This isn't your traditional "murder mystery" movie.
The movie literally shows you EXACTLY what had happen and how Chistopher Plummer's character died, that does not change, but the mystery is something else, and the context of the scene changes at the end when all the details are revealed.
. I love the cast in the this movie, every one is great. Don Johnson is having quite the comeback, and he's great in this. I was surprised how funny this movie is, Toni Collete nails her character! Daniel Craig's Benoit Blanc, is interesting at times, you think maybe he's completely incompetent, but he's not, he's just a bit eccentric in his methods. So, I'm excited to hear that they are going to make another movie with his character. I highly recommend this movie.
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood - 7/10
This is a delightful, heartwarming movie, that's not about Mr. Rodgers, but how Mr. Rodgers changes the life of the reporter. The movie is about the reporter encountering the pure kindness of Mr. Rodgers and overcomes his own personal issues. It's framed as an episode of Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood and does deal with the elements of the show, the puppet characters, etc. Tom Hanks is so good as Fred Rodgers, I loved him as Walt Disney in Savings Mr. Banks, even better here. Matthew Rhys does a great job in the main character, Llyod Vogel. And in a small supporting role Susan Kelechi Watson, playing Andrea Vogel, does a wonderful job with the little she's given. It's a movie about a man with anger and little faith in humanity overcoming those issues after seeing the real pure effect that Mr. Rodgers has on the people around him. Through learning that Mr. Rodgers is just a person with problems, but learning how to deal with those and overcome them, Lloyd gains a new perspective on his own life. If you haven't seen this I strongly recommend it.
The Magnificent Seven (2016) 5/10
I couldn't finish it, so it could have improved, but I found the first 40 minutes dull and lacking the charisma of the original.
That's because it wasn't designed for the modern audience that wants the whole story given to them right away. The movie is designed for a more refined audience that doesn't mind investing the full 130 minutes of the movie to learn it's dull and lacking the charisma of the original.
The Call of the Wild - 6/10
I really enjoyed this movie, I haven't read the book, so I wasn't sure what the story was. But this is a heartwarming film. It feels like an old Disney family adventure film. It feels like it should have come out around Christmas, probably cause of all the snow. It might be a bit long, but I really enjoyed this, there were surprise actor cameos in it.

This film had the Pixar magic and landed all the emotional beats.
I saw Toy Story 4 and Frozen 2 and although they were good films I didn’t get the experience I was expecting from the studio that made Finding Nemo and Up to name some. I thought maybe I was just outgrowing Pixar but Onward proved me wrong 🙂
I think good word of mouth can help this film’s box office so I highly recommend anyone who loves Pixar or Disney to see it 🙂
(Re-Watch) Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle - 8/10
Just as good as the other three-four times I saw it. If anything, it gets better, because I get better at ignoring the smaller issues the more I see it 🙂

I'd heard people say it was better than the first one, but I had to see it to believe it. Now, part of it could be that it's fresh (as mentioned above I've seen the other one a lot) but there were just a few things that added something extra to the experience. Can't wait to see it again 😀
Definitely one of the funniest films I've ever seen. 🤣 The numerous celebrity appearances were integral to story, and the entire premise was brilliant. I've seen it before, and it was a treat to watch it again!
This is the story of a Mexican-American girl who goes to Mexico to visit a friend only to be kidnapped by a cartel. She refuses to give up even after a DEA contact reneges on a promise to get her out of there. She shoots her way out of trouble, killing the cartel leader and the corrupt chief of police. Watchable but not great.
A very good film, though a little long. Great acting from the actors. It also helped get the electric chair banned in most states due to the sabotaged execution scene and the fact that such a situation was a real possibility.
They wouldn't make this movie today because it wouldn't be considered "woke" enough. All the characters but one are white and the majority of them are male. Women characters are basically background supporting characters and the only white male who is not presented as dead straight is evil (though it's not clear whether he does swing both ways or if he was just threatening to rape the other guy just to mind screw him as payback).
Set in 19th century Colorado a young Scottish man travels across America in pursuit of the woman he loves, attracting the attention of an outlaw who is willing to serve as a guide. I found it very charming! if you like Westerns, Paul Thomas Anderson and fine acting by Michael Fassbender and Ben Mendelsohn. @Mr Trick@Ethan Reigns worth checking out

Hustlers - 7.5/10
That was a really interesting almost two hours. A lot of the directing and sound choices were very unique and made me pay attention, while the characterization was sharp and the acting very good. My favorite part had to be how real all the interactions felt, in a way that a lot of films don't really succeed at. I think that might come from a happy BTS set, but I don't know. On the other hand, it did drag at points and I sometimes felt like they didn't know what story they wanted to tell; a scandal or a friendship tale.
