Reading Goals 2024

What is your reading goal for 2024? Are you doing a book goal or pages or something else?

2023 I had the goal of 26 books, and hit thar, so I'm upping it slightly to 30 books for 2024. With the aim of reading more classic books or ones that always appears on the top 100 books type of lists.

The plan is to start the year with a Jane Austen book, Northanger Abbey, never read it before and it's one of her shorter ones.

I should stop setting reading goals of 250 books in a year and go for something more reasonable. Maybe 100? Haven't achieved that this year but my leisure reading is down.

I do read a lot.

I'm too much of a mood reader to have a high goal, I start way more books than I finish. I just get bored of reading them, I can easily go weeks without reading anything, then read 5 books in a week. It really depends on what mood I'm in.

I do have a stack of books I've started but couldn't get involved in enough to finish for one reason or another. I do read at least something every day, though. If it's something I'm really into, I can get involved enough to finish a book quickly. Otherwise, it takes a few days.

I'm doing a group read of Anna Karenina next year with a couple of friends, so that's another to add to my classics pile.

Its got me curious to see if there's any year long read a long podcasts, well listen a long.

Something like that can make it easier to read some books. Frankenstein is one I haven't been able to finish; the language used is a bit, for want of a better description, flowery compared to more modern books.

Took me a bookclub to get to this one, but I ended up really enjoying it. It was one of her more ”fun” books, maybe cause she wrote it quite young

Last year I set a goal of 52 to books, just cause, on Goodreads, because I’ve read a lot of short books like the Buffy ones, I got to a 126 by now! Crazy. But that includes audiobooks.

This year I might just skip the reading challenge on GR at least. I just bought a bunch of books I want to read, so I’ve put them all in a pile and figure I’ll work my way through it this year (hopefully)

I started last night with Midnight Sun (the Twilight book from Edwards pov) and it is gold! Gold, I tell you! Honestly, it is so unhinged, it makes me lament we didn’t get direct insight into the bloody dreams of Angel and Spike in whatever state of their beings. It is insanely long though, I got the French edition and its like 800pages! So I guess I’ll work on that for a while.

Honestly, it is so unhinged, it makes me lament we didn’t get direct insight into the bloody dreams of Angel and Spike in whatever state of their beings.

Just think if the imagine spot of Angel dancing in "She" was how he thinks all the time! That would have been something to see. (Spike, post "Out Of My Mind", only has one thing on his mind.)

How many books are ones you've read before?
I'm going to try and reduce the amount of books I've previously read this year as I have loads of books at home I've not yet read.

I fell off the reading wagon over the last year or two, so I hope to read books on a more frequent basis.
Not setting a particular target on numbers, but there's already like 5 unread books on my shelf that I need to tackle, and rather than looking at them and saying, 'gee, I really need to get around to reading those books', I need to do so.

Hopefully that'll kick-start things and get back into the habit of reading more often.

The on off button on my kindle has stopped working so whenever I want to use it I have to go upstairs, turn my PC on and connect my kindle to the PC. It doesn't take too long but has been enough to put me off reading recently! I might have to go back to traditional print books 🙂

Yes me too. This year I read a lot of crime books. But I have got print books from the likes of Jane Austin, Dickens, Graham Greene, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Nabokov, Steinbeck, McCarthy and Baldwin from before I bought my kindle that I never got round to reading. So am hoping to get through them this year

This year I started the 52 book challenge but a lot of the categories were so open you could just read what you wanted and fit it into one of the categories. But the 2024 categories seem more interesting so I might give it another go

I did give it a go this year, but found myself getting stuck with books I didn't want to finish, but they fit the challenge.
I'll look at the list but this year focus less on the challenge itself and just read what I want and then see if it fits any of the prompts. At least until I get to a point of having read a good portion of what I already own. I'll look at the list again when I come to buy another book.

I've been thinking I actually need to read a little less in the coming year because I keep finding the days too short to do other things I need to do. But at the same time, I have a long list of books I want to read!

A few months ago I made a list of all the books I could think of where the title is just a character's name (Emma, Lolita, Anna Karenina, Carrie, David Copperfield, Will Grayson Will Grayson, etc) bc I wanted to read as many books of that ilk as I could find. Just tickles me to do a self-imposed reading challenge like that lol. If anyone has any other suggestions lmk!

My 2023 goal was 75 books, and I crushed it at 76. But I just started a doctoral program. So I am going to go lighter this year with an even 30, I think.

I might re-evaluate during summer.

I already have a stack of 27 books, which include some classics from James Joyce and William Faulkner, as well as some Doctor Who novels, Agatha Christie, and some mystery/thrillers.

@olliedollie1204 omg i've been dying to read the vampire chronicles!! ever since the new IWTV show aired last year, i've been so obsessed w how much lore there is to that series. have u read any other books in that verse?

Yes I've read a few of them, they are a bit different but well worth the read. They are my favourite books!

Oliver Twist, Jane Eyre?

There's loads of reading challenges on Storygraph, so I'll go through a few of those for inspiration for this year. There's also read a longs, which might be good for longer books.
