Reading Goals 2024

My list of books for the poster I have ready to read this year:
Nelson Mandela: The Long Road to Freedom
Watership Down
The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat
I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings
The Diary of Anne Frank
Lord of the Rings
I Capture the Castle
Handmaid's Tale - audio
The War of the Worlds

Most of those are physical books, that I've found in charity shops. I'm not going to buy anymore books now, or not buy any more for the poster this year anyway. If I finish those I'll rent more from the library, but I want to have time to read other books as well. Plus I have the Anna Karenina group read. I think that's quite a good mix of books for the year, some fiction, some non fiction and different genres.

For a modern book, Hamnet is very popular.

I bought more books! Charity shop again though, but I got American Gods and Notes From A Small Island.

I've tried reading American Gods before and couldn't get into it, but I'll give it another go at some point this year.

I'm definitely going to read something lighter next The Handmaid's Tale is giving me weird dreams!
 
My goal? Simple; to read. I haven't read a book (as in, finished it) since I read Dracula, like, years ago. Went back to the library today (the plan is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) and read another 3 chapters and am still really enjoying the book. When I'm done with it, the plan is to head to the library and read the actual books they have there, and save my own books for when the weather permits me to sit on a bench outside instead of inside a library 🙂

Well I borrowed Station 11 on audiobook from the library to listen to once I've finished the Handmaid's Tale!

I'm trying to get it finished by the end of the month, so I can move on to something else. I'm still trying to get through Northanger Abbey too, can't say I'm enjoying either book.

This is how things are currently looking. Long way to go!

I actually could mark off more, Midnight Sun and Life and Death, could fulfill 22 and 23, but I'm waiting to see what else I read.

I've upped my reading goal to 40, however I always slow down reading during the summer so not sure how close I'll get to it.

I'm already thinking about next years chapter a day books!

I've seen a lot of people enjoy Year of Wonder, which has classical music accompanying each day. I think I'd enjoy that each morning.

I've also seen chapter a day plans for War and Peace, which I'd enjoy less, but it is on the reading plan.

I’m doing well! I’m about to finish one book and start a new one.

I think I’m going to set a goal for myself. Haven’t finished or even really seriously read a book for a few months now and it’s sad! I’m going to work this year to rebuild my library and to buy a ton of books, so definitely need to up the goals.

I think I’ll set a goal for myself of (going forward) 3 books a month at least. That seems fair.
 
I scratched off 3 books in February, and read 10 books overall last month.

March will be a slower month though, as Wold Swans is 27 hours long so most likely the only audio book I'll do this month. I'm starting The Silver Chair next in my Chronicles of Narnia read a long. I need to make more progress with the Nelson Mandela biography too.
 
I've really slowed down with reading, still haven't finished Wild Swans, didn't finish the Narnia series on time so now finishing that and reading the chapter a day Fellowship of the Ring book.

I've borrowed Lessons in Chemistry from the library app, it's a popular one online and fits in the 52 books challenge.
 
I didn't finish Wild Swans, Lessons in Chemistry or LotR!

I did however hit 40 books read, so upped to 52 now, and I'm doing chapter a day of Harry Potter.

I might use Oscar Wilde for the wild themed book.

Currently reading A Thousand Splendid Suns for the landlocked country one.

I finished A Thousand Splendid Suns and added it for the landlocked country prompt, decided that I would add The Picture of Dorian Gray to the wild prompt and that takes me up to 27/52. Half way there! The other half might not get finished though. I feel like I would have to find books to go with the prompts rather than reading anything.
 
Current reading goal is getting through all of Plato's works. It's gonna take a while.
 
I've just done a quick calculation and so far of the 46 books read this year, only 14 are rereads, so I'm happy with that, I'll have a few more as I go through the Harry Potter series. However the majority are new books, which is what I wanted this year.

I just bought the first 3 illustrated editions for $11 through a combination of a 3 for 2 amazon deal and points from my amazon credit card... so I'm re-reading them, but I'm considering it a first read because I'm reading these editions for the first time! lol.

I'm looking forward to getting into the later books as I haven't read them as much as the early ones.

Do you have the Jim Kay editions?

I've moved a few more books around on the 52 book challenge and am now up to 33/52, and I've got at least 4 more I can do easily.
