News Rebooting "Buffy" without Joss is "Ridiculous" -Marti Noxon

My biggest problem with them rebooting the movie other than a lack of Joss is the lack of the same supporting characters. I'd be interested to see a new take on Buffy and the Scoobies, but not so much on Buffy without the Scoobies or with new Scoobies. It'll be a harder sell for me without them.

Agree. We all love episodes written by writers other than Joss. But no Xander or Willow?? No Giles??

BTW, would it also be fair to say that most of us love someone OTHER than Buffy? If Willow isn't as popular as Buffy, it's pretty close.

No thanks!!

The only way I'd be interested in the reboot is is this actually happened - http://burnsyroxx.deviantart.com/art/Buffy-Remake-Buffy-2-159554346

She's the only one I can see pulling off the role well.

I'm going to throw down a gauntlet here and state that Drew Barrymore would be a better choice. Remember, Buffy started out as a Valley girl.

Oh wait. Has anyone noticed, that Alyson Hannigan (who I assum speaks for Alex Denisof), Nicholas Brendon, Anthony Stewart Head and Eliza Dushku have all spoken up against the remake, but SMG (Buffy herself) hasn't? Could this mean something?

I've noticed that too, then again, SMG stays generally quiet I think.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if SMG was all for a remake.
She's obviously been trying to distance herself from the role of Buffy since the end of the show (and never quite succeeded) so I'm sure she'd be quite glad to see someone else get to shoulder the role (and us the crazy fandom that comes with it 😉)

What I'm trying to ask is, is SHE appearing on the movie? If so, in what role? Buffy? Or someone else? Other than Michelle Trachtenberg, who's busy with her new CW series, which effectively blocks her from the movie, plus Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Denisof on HIMYM, every major character not tied down has said opposed it - so why the silence from SMG?

Hm, I would sincerely doubt it. Obviously I could be very wrong but it seems to me she's spent a good couple of years trying to get away from being Buffy, wanting to be seen as an actress not just that 'blonde vampire slayer' 😉 So it would seem strange to me if she signed on to participate in the movie.

Besides she's still pretty focused on being a mommy isn't she? Maybe that's why she's been so quiet...

Maybe the other cast members are pissed because she is the only one they wanted to make a brief cameo!

Well, has anyone asked her what she thought?

All the cast members that have given comments have done so on Twitter where they have been asked for a comment. Apart from Tony Head who was asked in an interview.

My point is, no one just volunteered their opinion. Why would SMG?

Well, if it's any respite, she's known as Daphne in Australia.
But honestly, since "The Grudge" in 2004 (Hollywood Ju-on for the uninitiated), all her films have honestly, been flops.

That, in contrast to:

Alyson Hannigan, and hubby Alexis: Currently with HIMYM. Very much a success.

Amber Benson: has of late, become a sort of political activist, and film-maker. Not particularly a success yet, but... she's writing bestsellers (books).

Amy Acker/Eliza Dushku: Just finished Dollhouse.

David Boreanaz: BONES

Charisma Carpenter: The Human Factor (2011 movie)

Seth Green: Family Guy (exec. producer)

Anthony Head: Merlin (BBC)

James Marsters: Three Inches

Nicholas Brendon: Very Bad Koalas.

Michelle Trachtenberg: New CW series coming up.

SMG?

Try telling Alyson Hannigan that...

My memory fails me.
Afraid I'll have to ask you to expound on said issue.

Oh I think a lot of SMGs movies are great and successful even if only to a modest degree, but still nothing has over-shadowed that Buffy fame.

I didn't mean to compare success between the cast (though I think she's more successful than most of them)

.

What I meant by the mommy thing is that SMG actually stopped working after giving birth. Announcing that she wanted to stay home with her baby. That Aly hasn't chosen to do that is a completely different matter.

The problem with her is that shes doing WAY too many arthouse flicks.
Way too many. In fact, I heard that Michelle Trachtenberg got more out of the Disney flop, the Ice Queen, than SMG got out of a moderately successful arthouse flick.

Bar 4.
Alyson Hannigan tops the "rollin' in the bucks" category. [Poor Alexis.]
David Boreanaz with BONES comes second.
Antony Stewart Giles on London's West Side is always a success.
And Amber Benson is doing better writing than acting.

Oh, OK.

Well all depends on what kind of fame you want. SMG seems to be going for the serious actress thing which is working for her. She's been showing off her capabilities and range.

As for Aly - HIMYM might be a hit but it won't last forever and that's pretty much a 'fluff' part. That's not gonna win her anything other than similiar fluffy comedy roles.

DB I'd agree on he's doing well for himself.
ASH has another kind of fame, not exactly household name stuff for peeps outside of the Whedonverse
And Amber Benson... well it's all relative isn't it. If a brilliant movie career was what she's after then I'd say she's pretty much failed. Again ouside the Whedonverse she's not really all that well known.

Anyway, I'm gonna bow out now because this is not 'remake' discussing. On that topic I just feel hesitant to the idea that SMG would be interested in it. It'd be nice to hear a comment from her camp however.

But I like fluffy. Still, it would be better if SMG said something.

I think she would be hesitant for a role.. but a little 30 second cameo type thing, I do not think she would have a problem at all. You see it often and its rather common. Plus, free money!! it would pay for some more Ugg Boos.

I still see Buffy as quite new though (probably because I only started last year lol), when you watch it is seems really modern; I thought only really old movies were getting remade :-/

Buffy without SMG? no :leaving:
there is only one buffy, and that's SMG. movie the big mistake byside.
her expression, her voice, her total acting. that's made Buffy (SMG).

sure, there can be a total new buffy with new cast. but i will never watch it ever!
its something like a transexual. a man who want's to be a woman...or woman to man....
it will never be the real thing.

same with buffy. replacing smg for an other buffy is polishing shit.... it will never shine🙁

and SMG wants to be a mommy? well, let her child play with her😀
little buffy😎

It's funny. Even if a lot of people say "No Joss, no Buffy" in the fandom there seem to be many that bring up the lack of the cast from the show as to why this idea is terrible. So then it wouldn't matter if Joss did a Buffy movie if it was without SMG as Buffy and in the way he first intended it, without scoobies. Seem they are behind the actors and not the creator.

Nothing wrong with wanting the cast from the show back considered how important they were to the success. But the way people phrase it is often "funny". So the question if what people are against the most, a movie without Joss or a movie without all of the cast from the show.

If it aint broke, dont fix it!

Are they trying to fix it? Do they say that the show was bad and now they're going to make the story as it should be? I don't know so if you do please answer. They're making a new and different version. You know, like Joss's first idea. So in that way it isn't new of course, just compared to the show. So if you think about it, this movie might very well have an awful lot more in common with Joss's first idea of Buffy than the show. 😉

I believe that Joss hated the movie himself due to executive meddling, and I think this movie will probably suffer from the same, given the Kuzuis are still around.
