It's starting up again this summer, with Gail Simone once again writing! You can pre-order it at comic shops right now.
I know, I read that on Scans Daily and nearly had a heart attack! I'm so psyched! Nothing like a Birds of Prey reboot and a Zatanna ongoing to make me feel better about Gail leaving Wonder Woman, Greg Rucka leaving DC, and Palmiotti/Gray/Conner leaving Power Girl.
😀
As for recommendations, I was gonna recommend Chew and Y: The Last Man, but it looks like you're already reading them. So here are some more suggestions:
THE QUESTION - written by Dennis O'Neil, starts with the trade "Zen and Violence." It's a great and very thought-provoking comic, and if you're a fan of Rorschach from Watchmen, you'll probably be a fan.
SECRET SIX - written by Gail Simone, starts with the trade "Unhinged". It's funny and twisted and just completely awesome. Plus, Nicola Scott's art is gorgeous.
BIRDS OF PREY - another one written by Gail Simone, starts with...oh, just read Andrew Crossett's post. It's really fun and action-packed and Gail Simone's writing is very Joss-like in that it has a lot of sort of off-beat humor and great characterization. Except to be honest, I think Gail's better than Joss. *dodges tomatoes*
DETECTIVE COMICS: BATWOMAN - written by Greg Rucka. It's absolutely fantastic and the art by JH Williams III is some of the best I've ever seen in a comic. I actually have to stop reading just to gape at it once in a while. The first trade, called "Batwoman: Elegy," doesn't come out until July, but you can get the individual issues for pretty cheap...it goes from Detective Comics #854 to 860. And don't be scared off by the numbering, you can jump in pretty easily even if you've never read a DC comic in your life.
QUEEN AND COUNTRY - again, by Greg Rucka, starts with the trade "Operation Broken Ground". It's a spy series and it's really great, just like pretty much everything else Greg Rucka's ever written.
STUMPTOWN - yep, another Greg Rucka series. It's only two issues in and the third issue was postponed until the beginning of May (I can't wait!), but I've really enjoyed it so far. The first two issues should be cheap and easy to find on Amazon if you wanna check it out.
WONDER WOMAN - both Gail Simone and Greg Rucka have had really good runs on it. Greg Rucka has a one-shot graphic novel called "The Hiketeia" and his full run starts with the trade "Down to Earth," but IMO, it doesn't really get good until the "Eyes of the Gorgon" trade. Gail Simone's starts with "The Circle" trade.
POWER GIRL - written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray, starts with the trade "A New Beginning." It's not thought-provoking or philosophical or anything like that; it's just fun and hilarious. Plus, Amanda Conner does the art...does anything else have to be said?
SWEET TOOTH - written by Jeff Lemire, starts with the trade "Out of the Woods" which comes out in May. It's a Vertigo title, so that pretty much already lets you know it'll be good, and it's a sort of creepy, post-apocalyptic kind of title with a twist.
There are a lot more that I'm too lazy to write about right now including MOUSE GUARD (written by David Petersen), THE ALL-NEW ATOM (only Gail Simone's run, though...don't bother reading after that), and JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL (written by Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis), but I already wrote a whole freakin' essay and I figure I already gave you enough titles to waste all your money on :tongue3:
