Lani talking about Buffy will probably just be her fawning over Spike for an hour. Think I'll pass. And too bad about Storywonk going away completely since that was more than just Dusted.

Fawning over what a great character Spike is? You're right and I think most fans of the show would agree with her😛

I agree with you . Spike is a good character to talk about :)
Really nice name for it, but she seems really annoying. Haha, I think it was @Athena who told me Dusted probably wasn't for me, and I think she was probably right. (I realize this isn't Dusted, but she's half of Dusted). Nice that she keeps it going though, so fans aren't left hanging in mid-season 6!

I don't know. There are some good ones. But for me her Spike love defeated the whole purpose of the podcast and by S4 I've had it. Once an episode was named 'Because Spike' you know it's over for good. The expressed purpose of the podcast was to look at Buffy episodes from a technical viewpoint (writing, directing, acting, story) but whenever Spike is around forget it. Also I didn't trust their episode ratings anymore because better grades were given the better Spike and his story were. Then why bother with a clinical/technical view of the show if you can't keep character bias out.

I don't think this is fair at all. Yes Lani is a big Spike fan, but when I listen to a review podcast I do like to hear someone who is a 'fan' as I identify with that. I think most people who listen to the podcasts would say that there is plenty of discussion about the technical aspects of the show. For example, Lani as a writer gives some good insight into storytelling. One reason it may seem like they are biased towards the Spike dominated episodes or storylines is because they both tend to prefer the later seasons of the show, where of course Spike was more central.

It's the Snow White of fair. She can geek out about the bleached wonder all she wants if it doesn't factor into their reason for making the podcast and more importantly the rating.

But just because she is a writer doesn't mean she is without flaw in that area, or bias for that matter. One of the reason I hate the later Seasons is precisely because the writing sucks. Especially in S7 the writing (along with a host of other things) is just terrible yet it's one of her fave Seasons. I stopped listening to their podcast when they gave an episode a higher place on the list just 'because Spike'. That was exactly the opposite of their stated goal.

But I did hope they could finish it. Mainly because I wanted to listen to certain S6 and S7 episodes to see how they would excuse the things they had such a firm moral stance on in the early Seasons, in particular because they shipped Spuffy. Because to me it makes no sense, to have that kind of moral stance but throwing it out the window when you find someone hot. So I had a perverse curiosity in that regard.

Bluebird: But you must subscribe to popular opinion. Don't you you want to be the same as everyone else? 😉
But whose/which popular opinion? Online fandom which fancies itself the authority and majority of anything and everything? The actual numbers (tv ratings, viewership, comic sales, media) which have no bias and tell the truth pretty straight forward? My own opinion that I assume everyone else in the world has too?

I don't know but there seems to be a "they" who decide what is good and what is bad, and what the the correct opinion is to have. Online fandom has got more rabid and troll-like as logic takes a backseat to what critics tell them to like. It's a strange echo chamber that puts me off engaging with it.

I'm not talking Buffy fans, most of them are cool, but some shows are almost impenetrable to me because of their fandom.

I have to agree with you there . On some shows if you don't think think things a certain way you get trolled until you leave or give in .

I couldn't get into Lost for that reason. Also because it was garbage.

Exactly. I was reading some movie reviews some time ago and the reviewer was saying how good the movie was, but then said they hadn't seen it, its just what they read other critics saying. So he wasn't really being a critic or having an opinion, he was just a parrot. I think parrots are worse than trolls, to be honest.

And he getting paid for that 😱 That one reason I never listen to Critics .

Well al I got to say is he has way too much free time on his hands.😛

I like to read/hear reviews, I like hearing other people's opinions. Doesn't mean I have to agree, but sometimes it helps to solidify my own opinions, and often leads me onto other sites/people that I wouldn't have otherwise found

Buffering the Vampire Slayer is a relatively new podcast – they're in the middle of S2 right now – but I've been enjoying it so far! The songs are pretty catchy.

They've had some interesting guests like Armin Shimerman, Kelly Connell (the worm guy from WML), and Stuart McLean (Giles' old friend in 'The Dark Age' who ends up passing the possession onto Jenny).
