What is your opinion on the concept of revenge? Would you do it if you had the chance to? Is it the right thing to do or is it too extreme/childish?

I don't think there is an actual answer to this question as it is more down to the person. It depends on the situation and why the person would want revenge.

Most extreme example was if someone killed someone in my family and knowing the laws in this country (UK) they probably wouldn't even get a full life sentence, i would want them killed.

Ironicly enough i had a debate about this a while ago with some friends about bringing the death sentence back, i'd be in favour of it, prison is far to soft these days. I was reading in the papers that paedophiles are being PAID to go to rehab, how stupid is that?

As with any crime, (cases that get me the most annoyed are Animal cruelty) i think the person who comits the crime should have exactly the same done back to them and nothing less.

While I enjoy the television show of the same name, the actuality of exacting revenge on someone is not appealing to me. I don't think revenge proves anything and rarely is as satisfying as it seemed when planning it. Forgiveness is much more powerful in my opinion. Not just saying you forgive someone but true forgiveness is a far better choice in my opinion. I will leave the judging to judges and karma to the universe.

Revenge is a dish best served cold. 😉

No, I'm actually against the whole 'taking revenge on some poor soul' thing. It just seems childish in some ways, and extreme in others. I'm not a fan of people getting hurt for any reason.

In childish revenge, people usually keep getting hurt if you continue on with it. In one of the books of the Christy Miller series, Katie, one of the characters, somehow managed to get 'revenge' on another character, Doug, but putting her brownie ice cream in his face [he knocked her and Christy in the water on purpose]. Somehow, it ended up that she got a bloody nose as a result of it. So as the book goes on, she had her boyfriend play a prank on him by portraying a brother defending his sister's honor [long story]. However, when Doug tried to block MIchael's 'punches', he accidentally punched poor Christy in the face.

In extreme cases, the person usually ruins their own life [like if they take revenge on somebody for killing their loved one].

Not. A. Fan.

I'm not sure about this.

I actually just finished a book that really focused on the difference between revenge and justice so I've been thinking about this quite a lot.

I think, in general, revenge is never something one should take part in. The repercussions of that act are just too many.

On the other hand, justice is something that needs to be done, whether it's wanted or not.

So I guess my answer is that I don't agree with revenge but justice is something else.

And even that is all in the eye of the beholder based on what a person considers to be just.

Now I'm going to be thinking about this all day. 😛

What book is this?
Well, I enjoy watching movies that are about revenge, people getting theirs.
It's not something that I could do myself in real life, I think, but I'm not totally against it.

In the end justice is generally more satisfying that revenge will ever be.

Justice gains satisfaction. In revenge everything is lost; the true satisfaction, the victim, and yourself. I can't see any good that could come from revenge. It's childish.

The thought of revenge always takes me back to the same story...The Iliad. Oh, the rage (whining) of Achilles. If y'all knew me personally, you'd know how anti-achilles I am, but that's a whole different rant that I will stay away from today.

From a totally objective standpoint, revenge is not the way to go. It's basically disproportionate justice, and inflicted based on personal vendettas. And look how well that turned out for Wood's revenge on Spike. But as a person, I think I would take revenge. Generally, I would try to let it go, not in the sense that I would forgive the person, but in that I would just consider the matter to be too trivial to upset me. As they say, the only thing worse than hate is indifference. But if it really bothers me, I'd spend a whole lot of my time fuming and planning up vengeance schemes. Which usually come to nothing. So revenge=bad, because whenever I want revenge, it's pretty unfruitful.

Small time revenge between friends I can justify. Like pranks and stuff as long as it doesn't go too far. But I guess that's not what what we're talking about. If we're talking "You're responsible for a loved ones death and now I will make you pay" like revenge I understand the feeling but acting on it? No way.

Revenge vs justice? Personal justice? Country/state laws? A jury to decide what's justice? No matter what we go with opinions will differ. The laws where you live might not be the same as the ones here. So is it simply a matter of accepting what ever punishment is decided due to where we live or do we see justice a different way?

I think at some point everyone has acted in vengeance, be it something very small and inconsequential or something large. Everyone with a sibling has acted in revenge at some point, I'm certain!

I think revenge is something that is always understandable, but rarely a good idea.
