You all know who I'm talking about, Graham & Forrest. I was just wondering what everyone's thought's were on them.

I actually thought they were both humerous and enjoyable for the time they were recurring characters, not to mention they always made fun of Riley, but I have to consider the fact that they really were just fillers for a season of filler episodes and characters.

Your thoughts? Go!
 
I loved Graham. I liked Forrest until he turned into a jerk. I have a feeling Forrest would have hated anyone Riley or Graham dated unless she was a complete airhead who never made any demands or thought for herself. In other words, Forrest was kind of a chauvanist.

I completely agree...
I liked Graham. I thought it was sweet how he reacted in (oh God, what's that episode called....) the one where Riley's heart was all kablooey? I thought he was nicely set up to be the go-between with Riley, Buffy and the Initiative. I would have liked to have seen more of him. (Not like that....) (Okay, like that, but in the regular way too.)

Forrest on the other hand? I got what they were trying to do with him...but I never liked him. A moany, jealous character only realy works if you can empathise with them, and I really couldn't.
 
I liked Graham - he's one of the most adequate people in Sunnydale and he wasn't boring at all. Loyal soldier with ballanced nature. Your normal guy. On the other hand, Forrest, I never got surprised he turned up complete jerk - his issues were all pathetic and his sense of humor was mean despite he seemed to be pro-Buffy in the beginning. So when Riley blew him to pieces I was all cheering: 'Go riley, Go! Finish that bastard!'
I like Graham more than Riley (especially s5 Riley).

Definately agreeing here. Yay for Graham (although I didnt think he was that fantastic, he was enjoyable enough to watch) and ney for Forrest, man that guy gets on my nerves!.

Lindsey, the episode your thinking of is Out Of My Mind Im pretty sure.

Well, at the beginning they were fun. Like, remember how they were trying to make Riley realize he had feelings for Buffy? That was so cute! Well, but then when the whole 'Buffy is baaaaaad' drill started, they just became annoying.
 
Forrest annoyed me, but Graham was okay, I guess. I don't think they were in it enough or said enough for me to really be able to decide if I liked them or not.

Not a secret I LOVE Graham. Bailey Chase is the original Mr. Yummy...

But I actually liked the whole super soldier thing in S4. 🙂
 
I actually liked Forrest far better than Graham, only cuz Graham was so quiet all of the time. Forrest had some great lines, and seemed fairly suave... and yes ok got a bit jerkish but at least he had some depth to him.
 
I liked the bit-partiness of Graham too though. It was an example of a character who was who he was. He was set up nicely, and stayed in character, and didn't need anything else. That made his subsequent appearences feel right. He was like a piece of a good set. He was there when you'd expect him to be, but they didn't need to make sure you knew he was there. It's refreshing to just have a character be that character and not to have everyone trying to grow and develop for the hell of it (like in Season 7).

Although I said I'd have liked to have seen more of him, I think I should clarify. Mainly so I don't look like an inconsistant, scatterbrained werido. I would have liked more of him, but not in the season as it stands. Things would have had to change for that to be the right thing for the character. If he was to come to the fore, Forrest, for example, would have had to shrink back some.

Anyway, I liked him. So there.
 
I thought Graham was a good soldier and a good friend, but I found him boring.

Forrest... well, that guy had some issues. Almost from the moment when it became clear that Riley was serious about Buffy -- not by coincidence, that was also around the time that Buffy joined the Initiative -- Forrest seemed jealous. I think that, like many of the Initiative operatives, he felt threatened by Buffy and her place in the demon fighting world. Add that to the fact that she was becoming a major fixture in Riley's life so that he was spending more and more time with Buffy and her friends and less and less non-Initiative time with Forrest and the rest of the guys, and I can see how a little bit of resentment would build up. This girl kind of crashed into his world and started messing things up. All of this gave his character more depth, but also made him less likable, as he never really showed any greater, nobler motivation behind these feelings. It wasn't so much that he believed in the mission of the Initiative or that he felt like Riley's relationship with Buffy was a danger to him as it was that Buffy took the spotlight off of Forrest. It's a very middle school kind of attitude that, in a grown man like Forrest, makes it very hard to like someone.

So, yeah: Graham = likeable, yet boring and underdeveloped. Forrest = more fully developed, yet almost completely unlikeable.

I kinda see Graham and Forrest as the 2 sides of the one coin. Graham is quieter and more resevred, the more sensitive side, Forrest was the balls of the operation - gung ho, get in there, get it done soldier type boy who would likely get blown up for being so cocky. Like the angel and the devil on Riley's shoulders, trying to sway him. But since Riley was so obviously the good guy, Graham didn't really have that much to do, which makes Forrest stand out more as some angry, petulant guy not used to not getting his way.

^ Ooh, nice analysis! I think you're right, now that you've mentioned it. The angel and devil on the shoulders interpretation makes all kinds of sense--Forrest is mean and rude, while Graham only ever tries to get Riley to do the right thing.

I liked both of them until Forrest started being an ass, then I hated him. I lusted over Graham and still do... He's freakin' SMOKIN' y'all! LOL
