RIP Paul Newman

I was just about to start a thread about this. What a fantatsic actor. RIP.

First I've heard this news too. He was a class act. RIP.

Just read about it, too bad.
A classic movie star...

83 is a good age though, and I'm sure he led a long and happy life. RIP Paul Newman. I loved your eyes.

I love his sauce.

I was at home the other night thinking, 'wow, what I would give to have some Paul Newman sauce on this pasta'.

Joking aside though I really liked him and his films were often entertaining but 83 is a REALLY good shot at life I hope he managed to realise all his life goals, dreams and ambitions.

I tend to think topics like this are mostly pointless, and often border on my definition of what gay is. I do, however, think Mr Newman was a great actor, and if posting in this topic I am, in some way, acknowledging this, then I will do so, regardless of me thinking it is 'a bit gay'.

How is acknowledging someone who's passed away gay? You're a fool Schillaci, either that or you're still a child who hasn't developed a sense of loss at the thought of someone dying - same goes for anyone else who thinks this thread is gay - you people annoy me so much.

Until Friday Paul Newman was greatest living actor. Pacino and Di Niro are probably next in line but neither come close to Newman. I've always thought that the single greatest cinematic performance was Walken in The Deer Hunter; Newman in The Hustler is a close second. He deserved his oscar for The Colour of Money but he should have had at least two Oscars by then anyway.

He could have made $200 million plus from his sauces but he gave it all to charity.

If you have nothing good to say or aren't going to say something regarding the man then don't post - every person who dies, is someone's child, sibling, spouse, parent etc etc etc and it is therefore a sad time and the dead, no matter who they are, deserve some respect!

I think it is kind of the point. Are we gonna start a thread for everyone who dies or just the famous ones? Everyone deserves respect. Don´t get me wrong. I don´t see anything wrong with threads like this. Pointless to mr. Newman or his close ones it may be, but not to you obviously. And therefore not pointless as a whole.

No Kinslayer, I don't think that a thread should be started for everyone who dies.. the whole board would be filled with them. As for someone famous who dies well - if it's someone who's had an effect on your life in some way then yes - it's a show of respect and gratitude.

What do you think will happen when one of the Buffy cast or crew dies? Do you honestly think that will go un posted about on this or any other Buffy fan board? No... Me either.

I did say I didn´t mind threads like this didn´t I? And I knew what you meant. It was more of a rhetorical question (?). Even if PN didn´t mean much to me I can still see the point of starting threads like this, but that don´t mean everyone will. And as for the gay comment, blondie is right. He just wants reactions. Better to ignore it even if it´s hard to do.

While I do appreciate that folks have a strong opinion on certain matters, this thread is hardly the venue to air them out.

This is to honor an acting legend and humanitarian. Please respect this. All of you.

You are of course free to take your discussions to Profile conversation or to PMs if you so wish.

As for the great Mr. Newman, RIP sir.

I agree completely. Mr Newman was a rarity in the Hollywood society: a talented actor, a great humanitarian, and a man who managed to love and remain married to the same woman throughout his career. He was one of the great ones. He will most certainly be missed. As has been pointed out, he lived a long happy life and at the end left with dignity.

He could have made $200 million plus from his sauces but he gave it all to charity.

I hope that wasn't a shot at me. You have NO idea what level of respect I have for the man, while I placed SOME humour in my comment I also left a heartfelt comment.

As per the 'bit gay' well, if you read ALL of Schillaci's comment, he actually states he that the whole idea of threads like this he finds a 'little gay', HOWEVER he has pushed that aside BECAUSE in this case his respect for the man outshines his own personal prejudice.

I personally don't comment on every 'RIP Such and Such' because I too find it rather pointless for people I don't really know BUT in this case, Paul Newman was an exceptional man and deserves a comment.

Seems to me you need to take a chill pill. At the very least, if Schillaci is mocking these threads (which I don't think he is) THEN participates with a heartfelt comment, who is he mocking in the end - himself.

Now, for the term 'little gay' - oh wait, we did that argument somewhere else and I while I don't mind taking over silly 'Slaying Practice' threads with that conversation, I won't take up any more time on this great actor, nee human beings, thread (though expect a strongly worded message 😛)

FYI - UK people, the Color of Money is on TV tonight.

Truly worth a watch if you haven't seen it.

I loathe to post in this topic now, because it gives some narrowminded people essentially what they want.

I just want the other people in this topic to reread this by OMIII several times. I did NOT express my "opinion on certain matters", other people did. What I did do was say that if by posting in this topic I am in some way acknowledging that Paul Newman was a great actor, then I will do so. As is often the case when people want to attack me, selective reading comes into play.

How is acknowledging someone who's passed away gay? You're a fool Schillaci, either that or you're still a child who hasn't developed a sense of loss at the thought of someone dying - same goes for anyone else who thinks this thread is gay - you people annoy me so much.

So me saying Paul Newman was a great actor wasn't me having something good to say about the man?

Not one of you three actually properly read my post, even if you did, then you will still not be able to accurately describe to me what my definition of the word gay is.

EXactly. Maybe in the future when you look for some pathetic immature little attempt to attack something I've said, maybe you will ponder on it a little further, properly analyse it, look inside youself for a little insight, and then just not post. Because hopefully by that point you will realise that it is not I that is TRYING to start something, but YOU, with your mock offense (AT ABSOLUTELY NOTHING).

Not that I really need to justify my statements here...but perhaps you should reread my post a few times yourself. I was speaking to everyone going off topic in this thread.

This thread is closed.

So I should just people in an open forum accuse me of things that aren't true?
