If people can't move past the past then what's the point? I don't live in the past. I live in there here and now. Learning from one's countries past/history is nice and all but being stuck in it and clinging to it to defend the present doesn't really work for me. Doesn't every western country have equality in their law, constitution or whatever? Whether that's the equality of race, sex, religion or whatever else. It's not equality if one section can do one thing that is denied the other and vice versa, especially when it comes to things like freedom of speech. That's the very thing that will breed resentment and lead to the things people are trying to fight, like racism. You can't apply double standards everywhere. Either something is allowed for everyone, regardless of gender or skin color or it's forbidden for everyone.
