All marketing and distribution is paid for by [whoever the overseeing company is, WB? I forget] the money from Kickstarter was just to pay for the actual movie to be made, crew, catering, locations, production etc.
 
I can't remember the specifics, so somebody else will have to confirm, but I think the terms of the deal with their studio was that they'd back them to make the film if they raised the 2million. Plus, I think it is getting a very, very limited release and then going out online. It something like that.

Yeah totally, I think VM only did as wll as it did becasue it was the first cult type show to do it, so even people that weren't big fans of the show jumped on board, more for what what it represents.

It'd be really interesting to see what a show like Buffy, and it's fan base would raise.

Me too. I don't know I'd I even want a Buffy film, but I definitely want to see how the fandom reacts to a Kickstarter in the same spirit as the VM one, not something like Jane Espenson or Tom Lenk has done, but an honest to God Joss project.
 
Felicia Day (a.k.a. Vi the potential slayer) put The Guild on line with a shoestring budget and eventually got funded by Microsoft. The Guild is a great production that was filmed over six seasons with excellent actors and Felicia's excellent writing. Felicia Day and Danny Strong (Johnathan) have emerged as great screenwriters - maybe they could think of something.

The problem is not with the possibility of getting a story like this on line and if Veronica Mars is getting a limited release followed by going on line, the limited release will probably cost more than it makes and will be starved for marketing, so it might as well be a movie of the week or go direct to youtube. The problem is that Joss would never accept his story, which was made into a film once, being downgraded to a TV movie or an internet release. The actors would have better things to do. Do you honestly see David Boreanaz taking time off from Bones to do this?

Buffy worked as a TV series. The whole premise of the story is watching the characters develop as they run into various circumstances over a protracted period of time. The original movie worked because we had not seen this character before and it was all new. That ship has sailed - you cannot make a movie out of a TV series that easily unless you want another Dukes of Hazzard. Star Trek was a little more successful, but the material allows for a movie to be made that doesn't look like a TV episode.
 
There are quite a few that have been made for less than $1m, some like Van Diemen's Land was made with the crew and cast being paid just by royalties.
Marketting wouldn't be a problem, as it was a successful TV series, the hype of a movie being made will take care of that.
Plus threads like this get the word out.

I've seen Tiny Furniture (the film in question) and honestly it has the same production value as any episode of Girls. I never would have known it was made for so little. It certainly didn't take away my enjoyment of the film or distract me. But I know on another project it could/would have. If it fits the story/tone of the film, I'm all for it.
 
My BTVS addiction would love for Buffy to be back, even if only for a movie, but I'm a little scared I would be disappointed by the result. I believe Whedon is a genius, still when I think at the old Buffy movie... 😱
 
The die hard Buffy fan in me would love if they made the Buffy but the realist in me knows that it wouldn't be the best thing for JW to do.

Have the comics to look forward too, only came across them recently

New $tar Trek which was terrible -full of plot holes and cliches and have nothing to do with Trek mythos. It's kinda sad really that movies like $tar Trek 2009 are successful those days.

Don't kid yourself people - if reboot would be made it would be just like $tar Trek 2009, which isn't really a movie, it's a product that's been market tested to death. It's desperately trying to appeal to every demographic there is and is really nothing but a compilation of so-called "crowd-pleasing" elements and "winks" to the audience. This same would happen with Buffy reboot... I suspect that it would be mainly targeted at Twilight crowd because it's most popular vampire story in this day and age. So we would have sappy romance story a'la Romeo and Juliet in which Slayers and vampires wage the war from beginning of time, and only now Slayer(Buffy) would fall in love with a vampire(Angel), but they can't be together because Slayers and vampires hate each other's guts! Oh, the tragedy! 😀 Spare me...🙄 All old fans would get would be "winks" or so called easter eggs.

Personally I agree with Gellar. Buffy work as TV show and only as TV show. First movie was a cinematic disaster and I don't think that next movie would be any better.

Fairly cynical statement. Are there reboots or relaunches that flop, or are just quick cash-ins? Of course there are. But there are numerous examples where that isn't the case either. The Batman and Superman movies were just rebooted, and were much better than their predecessors (or, well, the Superman movie at least tried to be). The Hawaii Five-O franchise received a reboot several years ago and has been an outstanding series, far superior to the original.
