I voted for Caleb, how could you not vote for him, I mean come on the man killed several potentials, beat the crap out of Buffy on several occasions, and took Xanders eye out
 
No buffyverse character has ever made me scream, have nightmares, or get spooked out.But I think that the first is the worst, and most scariest of them all.Imagine if you lived in the bufffyverse, and you encountered the first, who is in the form of a loved one whose passed away, and the first is tempting you to do stuff.That would be scary to see dead people, especially people you loved.And what if you caused their death, or what if you weren't there to say goodbye?You would feel scared and guilty.That is why I think the First, is the scariest big bad.
 
I could see how someone could argue that point. Especially since the form the first seemed to like best was hers.
 
I think the bringers scared me the most. But not so much because of what they were but because of the way they attacked.

I wasn't scared of the first so much because it wasn't solid.
 
I found the ubervamps teh scariest, i think possibly because iof how tough they were and the sheer amount of them. Caleb was tougher but he annyoed me, well not he got me angry so he didn't scare me, the first...well its hard to be scared of something that can't tougch you and the bringer were too killable.
 
Caleb was definately the scariest of the lot. I didn't think he was scary because of his strenghth (Glory, Adam, The Beast, Dark Willow were all much more powerful big bads in the buffyverse) but rather because he was ruthless.

i so agree with that! well written dark rider(i couldn't quite find the word ;))
i think caleb is the scariest bad in season 7.. adn i think it is casue he is so very, well, creepy for one, and he is, well you know he will do bad things, but don't really know quite what he is going to do... adn well, his whole mentality and the way he is, how he acts and so on.. he is the creepiest i can remember, ever on buffy... 😉
 
The First Evil - because it brought out the dark side of all the characters. Insidious evil is the most scariest of all, even though most people never realize it. They are too blinded by the obvious.
 
Only the first ubervamp was scary and I just saw the First Evil as some big taunter. Now if it had became corporeal, thats a different issue.

So my vote goes to Caleb. Who I think in the physical aspect was the strongest out of all the big bads, even more so than Glory. This is because he was infused with the power of the greatest evil of all, and even though Glory and DarkWillow were scary, I don't think they had access to infinite evil.

Why is it necessary for the First Evil to be corporeal? Does evil have to be obvious and solid, to be frightening? Or is the idea of evil within every being (which is what the First Evil really is) is something that most people do not want to face?

I got the odd feeling that the Scoobies and Giles were so busy trying to identify the First Evil or research it that they did not want to face what Joyce had told Buffy in "Bring on the Night" - evil is within all of us. And to be honest, it was everyone's own inner evil or weaknesses that nearly defeated them in S7 - weaknesses that the First Evil had the ability to exploit.
 
The First Evil was feared indirectly through those that it commanded in S7, that's why it's most likely not winning this poll.

Caleb is scary because he's human, tangible and seemingly completely without remorse which is something we haven't seen much in the Buffyverse.

I picked the Ubervamps.

Mainly because they could come into the house without an invite and could not be staked. The first one tossed Buffy around a lot, and then in "Chosen" they were everywhere.

Caleb is a close second. He annoyed me a little bit though, which is probably why I didn't pick him.

Oh please. The First tried to manipulate them all, and what can you say - it failed. Sure, it may have scared the hell out of them, but they all faced their fears and came out even stronger than before.

And yes, to me, a corporeal First is the only scary First. Because I mean it may be creepy to see someone dead talking to you and all, but imagine what kind of power the First could have had in a shell or body. Caleb was extremely powerful and he had only a small bit of that power - as we know human bodies aren't made to withstand that much power.

So taunter First = creepy but not scary. Infinite Power Corporeal First is dangerously frightening, becaus hey, how are you going to fight the true source of Evil? I mean that ***** has to know some pretty good hand to hand and fighting skills, not to mention the raw power. And it could possibly teleport. So really, how are you going to battle that?
 
cordelia: exacly(sp?) (about caleb) the thing that is scary about him is that he is a man.. a human. not a vamp, not a warlock, not a demon. and he is a very very sick man, who has been given some of the firsts power.

slayer, the: i so agree with you. the first is creepy, not really that scary.. and so on. very well written!! :eye:

Have you ever heard of the saying "you're your own worst enemy"? The First Evil represented that saying. The evil within each character was the First Evil. It also represents the evil within each person in real life.

I have the oddest idea that the real reason why so many people are willing to dismiss the First Evil is because they are uncomfortable with what it represented - the evil within all of us.

But, I'm sure that you'll dismiss my opinion, or disagree, and prefer to concentrate on the obvious - corporeal characters.

By the way, the First Evil did a damn fine job with the gang on ANGEL.
