School

I'm just starting high school on Aug 30 or 31 i forget lol (grade nine) and I am sooo scared! All of my friends are in band so we prolly wont' have the same lunch or any classes...aah! 😛

Hmmm..It doesn't seem like it...cause we are 15-16 when we are in tenth grade here in the U.S. I'll be in 11th grade next year...and I'm 16, some of my friends will be 17 soon. We don't get out until 12th grade...and most people are 17-18 by then. Most go on to a four year college and are 21-22 when they graduate. We have way to much school here....i have my junior and senior years...only two years of high school left! Yay! But then it's off to four years of college...

Caitlin: Do you have your final schedule yet, with classrooms and all that? You should get it before the 19th when they have that thing, open house thing or whatever they call it, at the school...I don't think I'll get mine till later, but you guys definitely need it at least a week before us, considering you also have to go for that half day on the 24th...which is totally pointless. They have that thing on the 19th still too. Isn't that enough?

I will be a college senior next Monday! I feel so OLD!

I have one semester of class and one semester of student teaching (as my major is elementary education).

Then it's to the real world
 
The way the UK school system works is like this (well, the way I've grown up in it)

Nursery/Play School/Pre-School -

Then you go into Primary School
Year 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 (in Year 6 you are 10/11yrs old)

Then you go into Secondary School
Year 7,8,9,10,11 (in Year 11 you are 15/16yrs old)

I'm going back to school on September 7th (which means this year we got seven weeks Summer holiday instead of 6, that just means an extra week of boredom!) I go into Year 10, which I think is 9th Grade - not sure. I go back and start two years of G.C.S.E work (which is like the end of year 11 exams which give you your final grades for your 12 years of school) In my options (Ukers will know what I'm on about) I chose to do History, Music, Media and Graphics. We all have to do English, Maths, Combined Science (Chem,Phys,Bio), R.E./Citizenship, I.C.T and P.E.

Im dreading Year 10 to be honest - lots of coursework but as long as I get the grades I want at the end of it all then I'm not bothered. Speaking of school, what does everyone want to do when they get out of school? I dont really know, something involved with the media... journalism maybe.... tell me your thoughts...

I think thats the better scheme, personally i was scared of the year 11s when in year 9, cant imagine what it would of been like if i was in year 7.

The part of the UK I come from works differently to that.

We have:
Nursrey- Aged 3-4
Primary School- Aged 5-11 (Reception, Years 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6)
High School- Aged 12-16 (Years 7, 8, 9, 10, 11)

The years are still the same as everywhere else (but we have a year called Reception when we are 5) and so is College and Uni. The only difference really is we don't have middle school.
 
Yeah I think its just the West Midlands that have that. As I said they're looking into changing it but theres been big complaints.
 
In the UK High School and Secondary School are the same then I'm guessing? Cause I go to Secondary School and no where else in Coventry (aka Concrete City where I'm from) has High School in the name. It's all Secondary, Comprehensive, Community College ect. Do you still do all the boring tests, you know S.A.T.s at the end of Year 9 and GCSE's at the end of Year 11?

Oh yeah, I recon that the American school system is better than the UK one. I dont think that 11/12 year olds should be in the same school environment as the Year 11's who are 15/16 years old. At least in the US you've goy Junior High/Middle School right? At least there you get the three or four year gap between being a kid and a teenager - us UKers get thrown in at the deep end. Little fish and the big fish want to kill us - thats what I felt like in Y7, now I'm nearly finished so I'm becoming the big fish.

I presume, I mean its the second school you go to for most people. Need to find someone...smarter though.

Yup, Sats in Yr 9 (and like 7, 5 and 3 isn't it?) and GCSEs in Yr 11. Then if you go on AS and A2 levels.

See thats why I reckon the system in the midlands is better as you have middle school for where your 10-14 (ish). If I went to high school when I was 12 I'd be like :sad25:

You're right, in this point of my life...I would like go back to the past...

And i was wrong... 😛 I'm going to start university... here in my country you don't go to college after highschool, you finish highschool and go to university, it sucks, I'm feeling like a child 😛

lol...i agree i swear there's a hellmouth under my highschool...it just seems like such an evil place.....I'm really really dreading it. Well after the first maybe 2 weeks I think I'll be used to it and everything, but at first it's gonna be so weird.

Seriously, I can predict people exploding, turning invisible and getting possessed by winter recess.. Two weeks? I certainly hope it, but also doubt it. *Dramatic sigh* (LOL!)
 
BTW, dont go blowing up the school. Unlike in Sunnydale the excuse "But its an evil school" wont work.

Anyway A level results next thursday, eek! Started some of my summer holiday work today, although it was analysing OMWF so yay time.
 
LOL...I don't think I'll be blowing up my school anytime soon.....although that would be pretty interesting.. :evilgrin2
 
Yeah, I live in the West Midlands, Coventry to be exact and we havent got the middle school thing. I got shuvved violently into secondary school when I was 11/12 and I was scared as hell. It is bewildering. AshSan, do you live in the Midlands... if so where?
