Spoiler! Scream VI - Spoilers

@TamsinValencia ive rewatched it a few times. It’s super slow compared to the original films, for sure. I am excited for a faster pace in this next one!

I think my only real complaint was how formulaic it felt. Very run of the mill “legacy sequel”. Little disappointed by that, and I could not for the life of me understand why people online were praising it so much.

Hopefully 6 really steps it up. The NYC setting is already super awesome (no I’m not still bitter about Jason NOT Taking Manhattan until the last 20 mins, why do you ask) so I have good feelings.

Agreed. Sadly, I think 6 is going to disappoint.
I really like Scream 3. Much more than the 2nd one. It's probably one of my favorite ones, all things considered.
Scream 3 is by far the worst.

First of all, Ghostface spends the first half of the movie trying to locate Sydney. We see him repeatedly fail at it, then he somehow finds her anyway. So why waste so much time showing him trying and failing if we don't see the payoff?

And then Ghostface somehow knows Sydney has been having specific nightmares about her mother? How? Why?

The chase scene through the Woodsboro movie set makes absolutely no sense unless there are two killers, and there were supposed to be. Angelina was supposed to be revealed as Roman's accomplice but the studio changed it at the last minute. Ghostface would have to be able to teleport for the scene to work as it was portrayed on screen.

And then we have Gale checking Roman's pulse in a coffin in the basement. She declares him dead, then he shows up as the killer later. That's a really lazy way of throwing off suspicion and generating a cheap surprise. One would think after going through three separate serial killer sprees and dating a cop, Gale would know how to tell whether a dude was dead or not. The scene just makes her seem incompetent.

And the movie was very obviously written around Neve Campbell's limited availability. Unlike in Scream 4 or 5, she's still very much the main character in the movie but she spends most of it either off screen or in quickly shot scenes by herself.

Randy's cameo video tape was so forced. They lessened the impact of his death by copping out and forcing him into the movie anyway. Either stand by your choice to kill a fan favorite character or don't kill him at all; you can't have it both ways. And why doesn't Gale recognize Martha? It's established that she and Dewey lived together in Woodsboro, where Martha mentions she lives in the movie and still lives in Scream 5.

Didn't need the Jay and Silent Bob cameo either.

The movie isn't without its charms; Parker Posey as Jennifer is hilarious and Sydney comes across as a real badass in the final fight. But it's just a mess of a movie overall.

I'm hoping Scream 6 gives what I felt Scream (5) was missing- something really new and exciting. We've had multiple killers in majority of the movies- it's time for a CULT of ghostfaces. We don't need familial killers and/or ones looking for infamy -- Ghostface is iconic now so the killer(s) don't need to have any personal connection to Sydney or any real reason to want to kill; I'm most curious to see the motive(s) for the new killer(s). NYC has the potential to be an exciting and intense backdrop- I'm expecting/hoping for some fast paced chase sequences throughout the cities streets, subways etc. And I think it would be shocking if they kill off Gale or Sydney in the opening scene. They need to make this installment count..and that would potentially be the most shocking opening death since Drew Barrymore in the original.

I'm luke warm on this one because I was luke warm on 5. But I still think these filmmakers are capable of a strong Scream movie. The new location should help. I think they should really run with it and make it important to the story, like have a whole army of Ghostfaces across the city instead of just having a whodonit style plot with just two. They could make the Masterminds the main mystery.

I hope they either reduce or switch up Sam's role (make her more of a villain), she wasn't much of a final girl IMO. Make Tara the final girl for this one. For stakes I hope they kill off one of the main four characters (likely one of the Meek twins). I'm expecting Tara and Sam to make it to the final part of trilogy right now.

I'm hoping for something a bit different with this film. I hope they resist this silly fan craving to bring Stu back 😀 .

I will be going on opening day.

I'm worried it will be executed badly. The other one was okay, but I'm worried this one will be bad despite the new location.

Another concern I have is how big the cast is. For a 2 hour film or just shy of there's a lot of cast members to fit in and give good stuff too. I'm really happy Kirby's back, but I hope she gets something proper to do. I don't want her role being reduced at the expense of more melodrama with Sam or with Gale getting extra screen time, which she doesn't need at this point.

Well, Scream is light parody, so inexplicable supernatural elements seeping in does make quite a bit of sense. But, If only they are self aware about it. And they use it to bring Randy back. Randy the White. Too genre savvy to let hell hold him.

Okay, the movie is going to suck hard. They are doing way to much cutesy promos for it to be good.

They now have a website set-up that you can have Ghostface call you, or someone you hate, direct. I think were the movie good they wouldn't have to resort to these types of gimmicks.

Nah, I think they are trying to get new viewers, instead of just legacy viewers. The trailers are really good. I am pumped. I had a dream I was watching the movie last night, and then I went into the movie. lol

We'll see. I am skeptical. We'll see how much Sidney really means to the franchise.
That sort of promotion is standard for this kind of movie. I'm not reading too much into it personally. I'm not expecting the movie to suck, just to be medicore. My main concern is they will play it too safe again.

It's actually atypical for a Scream movie. The posters, the viral Ghostfaces hanging out, the phone number to have Ghostface call you. Nothing about that is standard for these movies. Hell, even the mask is not the typical one.

To be fair, typically (meaning for 4 & 5), the studios expected the movies to be “decent,” but 5’s reception last year really exploded. So, I’m sure they’re doing bigger promotion because the franchised has earned that promotion. I don’t really remember the promotion for the first 3, so I can’t comment on that.

But restaurants and all? I mean come on. Overcompensating much? I was excited at first glance but I am starting to think that this wont be "my" scream and it'll be more akin to ... everything else.
