Spoiler! Scream VI - Spoilers

I loved it too but I like Scream 2022. But I think this one is even better overall! Not sure I like the motive, too similar to Nancy Loomis or too much survivors that makes it like Chad who got stabbed I don't know many times by two ghostfaces or Mindy who got stabbed in the guts & the day after that is walking around in New York like nothing happened.

I love this one! The character development was so well done! Every one of the new “core four” got at least a little growth—especially Tara and Chad! Gale’s scenes were so much more well done than last year. And Hayden was having SO MUCH FUN as Kirby.

But I must have watched too many of these too many times, because
as soon as Quinn said she had a dead brother. I clocked her as a killer. Having her die early on was a good twist though, and I almost had second thoughts about it. They also did a really good job of making it seem like Kirby was a killer. It never would have made sense to make Gale or one of the Core Four the killer. But having her turn after 10 years of PTSD could have made sense.

I loved
the fake out in the opening too! Having the killer reveal his face was so good! And then having the real killer kill the copycat! *chefs kiss*

And all the Easter eggs were good!
There were 96s all over the train station, Dewey’s motif was heard when Gale was talking about family, so many callbacks to the 5 films that came before it.

I just loved it!
I don’t care that the killers’ motive was similar to Mrs. loomis because I like how it’s a callback to the first sequel. I also loved the 3(!) killers! That was a nice reveal. And they did a good job of hiding Bailey’s involvement in it! And I even don’t care that not any of the legacy characters really died because that’s going to amp up the next film! We’ve rooted for them so many times now that it’s going to make this next run epic!

Yeah don't think they could have handled Kirby's return any better.
@RachM latest video is a must for all Scream fans:
@RachM i agree with literally everything you are sayinggg

And it is so refreshing to have conversation with people who truly understand this franchise. Casuals just don’t get why this film (and 2022) work so well. And why the ending of this one subverts literally so many aspects of the original formula!! ❤️

Agree with you more on this film. 2022 was pretty underwhelming for me.
Good lord how did you guys get this to 80 replies already lmao??? 🤣 I’m impressed!

I really enjoyed it! I didn't have time to rewatch all Screams 1-5 before seeing VI last night, but I did find this recap video to be decent. It's sponsored which is annoying but I didn't find it as annoying as the few others I watched briefly. And it's on the shorter side.

This video contains spoilers for Screams 1 through 5:

I do think they did a nice job reminding people of what happened before, which helps brand-new watchers and fans who don't remember every main plot twist. (Or people in between who maybe haven't seen all 1-5.) Kudos that they did it in such a way that it wasn't too jarring, it made sense in-universe for why they did it.

Also I guess I need to test out how to do spoiler tag.... I will admit I was disappointed at the post-credits scene, but it made me laugh. The spoiler is, if you are in a big rush don't bother waiting for it.

I loved it! Haha. I thought it was a nice subversion of the typical end credits scene. Also I was legit the only person who waited for the scene! 😂😂

Glad you liked it! My screening (early Friday) only had about a dozen people in it, but about half of us stayed through the end credits. Did you screening have the scream-o-meter thing before it started? Mine did not.
I just got back from seeing it and to not say any spoilers overall I thought it was really good, I had a great time. I'd say the first 3/4 of the film was A+ but I did think that the last quarter, specifically just the twist/reveal wasn't very good. I just wasn't impressed with it.

To be fair, I haven't seen Scream 5, and maybe doing a rewatch of the first 4 films might have made a difference but they do reference what went down in Scream 5 a lot so I think I get it on a basic level.

I tried to stay for the end credits scene but people were coming to clean the theatre so I left to let them do that.

Also, I feel really dense because I went through the whole movie not recognising Hayden Panettiere - she looks so different but still, I should have recognised her, I love her 😂

Don't worry the end credits scene was just a gag, ha!
Okay, I saw it last night. Oof.

Firstly, I love this franchise, and I enjoyed this one. There were some creative kills, and the scene in the mini mart was pretty rad. Ghostface with a gun was actually really cool.

I'm also starting to really like Sam as a character. I think she has some real depth, and the actor is good.

However.

I feel like I really had to suspend my disbelief on this one. There's no way Chad, Gale OR Mindy should have survived those stab wounds.

My friend who saw it with me, her theory is that Samantha and Tara are schizophrenic and they imagined the whole last scene. Really that no one survived but them. We already know that Sam has delusions and hallucinations. It's believable that the trauma could cause Tara to develop this as well.

Thoughts?

Fair enough. I do wish one of the core 4 had gone.
Have to say... Love that Scream VI is a success in the fandom, so chilling for the detractors who said that Scream was gonna flop without Sid.

@Cohen These were my thoughts about the ending. I don't know if we're still doing the spoiler tags but I'll use one just in case 😀

  1. There being 3 ghostfaces felt a bit like cheating to me because I think it’s better when the audience gets to deduce who the killer might be and taking away the observation of who’s around and who’s not when ghostface is killing because there’s multiple ghostfaces takes that away. I know there wasn’t only one ghostface in the other films but I don’t know, they seemed kind of too proud of the twist that there’s more than one when really I think that just makes it easier for the writers to explain things but it’s not actually more fun for the audience.
  2. The cop saying he switched the bodies and nobody apparently checked if it was Quinn or not because ‘it’s amazing what they’ll let a grieving father get away with’ didn’t really make sense.
  3. If I saw things correctly, when Tara fell off the balcony she got stabbed by a ghostface upon landing and then it was like that wound just disappeared.
  4. As others have mentioned the way Chad was getting stabbed- it’s stretching that he survived.

I do get that the movie can’t be totally realistic, and I forgave some things that would be more nitpicky (like there didn’t seem to be any blood coming out of Anika’s stomach when she was climbing across the ladder, I thought maybe we’d get a cool shot of some blood falling to the pavement but we didn’t. That's okay though because it's small).

I agree on all this as well.
This is crazy. I really loved this one and this was by far the best of the franchise (that I have seen so far). I liked 2 a lot, but this one was just crazy fun!

I do agree somewhat with @Joan the Vampire Slayer though. Plenty of people take way too much damage and live through it compared to others. Chad comes to mind. Tara also shrugging off that gut stab at the end was just crazy.

Still, this was so fun!

I totally called Quinn and Bailey. Ethan was the surprise, and I liked that. First time we’ve ever had 3, or technically 5 ghostfaces in one film!

awesome poster!
Okay but how many times did Dewey’s get horribly gutted before coming back on a stretcher? I mean he has a limp that literally goes away in Scream 2. Or how many times has Gale been stabbed/shot and come back barely harmed?

There is definitely a suspension of belief that needs to occur in these films. But God, the cast is just so damn likeable in this one. In retrospect, 5 doesn’t hit as good because this one now is just so much better. But 5 is so very needed for 6 to happen.

Honestly, the franchise just shows how you do a horror franchise. Interconnecting each movie, but making each film feel very standalone at the same time.

One of my friends pointed out that the killer reveal
falls a little flat when you try to piece together Sam’s history with Richie and his family. But also, we don’t know WHAT their history was. Ritchie comes in as Sam’s boyfriend in 5, but how long were they together? Ritchie initially joins her so she wouldn’t be alone when she goes to check on her sister (or so we believed). We don’t know if she ever really knew Ritchie’s family in 5.

5 walked so 6 could run!

I thought that too, that it was weird that Sam wouldn't know Ritchie's family.
Honestly for 7 I want to see a cult of Ghostfaces or something. Maybe a group of 5-6 of them who operate under the instruction of their leader.

It is hinted that Stu is still alive when they’re talking about the TV. “If you believe he’s dead.” He was the crazier of the two originals anyways. Who’s to say he doesn’t want a final revenge on Sidney and Gale? 👀 Maybe Kirby too, and Sam and Tara because they are “final girls”. Maybe he gets po’d that his successors have all failed to live up to his and Billy’s legacy

Please, I just want Matthew Lillard to come back in one last triumphant massacre 😭

It'll probably just be his kids. And then they can have Sidney and Kincaid's secret lovechild too... I mean, it seems like everyone is related to everyone else now anyway. They could call it Scream: The Next Generation.

@spikenbuffy wait... when did she have kids? Was that in 5 and I just forgot it?

Sid has kids. They will surely be a target by Ghostface in ScreamX
I saw it last night and was very disappointed. I can't believe how many people are saying it's good! It lacked so much to me. Everything felt recycled. NYC was nonexistent- It could've taken place in any other city and wouldn't have made a difference. The subway scene was not scary or exciting. And I agree w/Joan the Vampire Slayer that Mindy(or Kirby), Chad & Gale all should've been offed in this installment. There was a huge lack of action, tension and gore (yes there were kills but nothing new). The killer(s) reveal was even MORE predictable/recycled than Scream 5! They couldn't even come up with something new. None of the deaths, much like the characters themselves, were memorable. I'm not even upset that Sydney isn't in Scream 6- it's just not well written, interesting or exciting. It's literally less entertaining than Scream 3. I could've written a better script... In a nutshell, instead of Quinn and Ethan even existing as characters, I would've written a role specifically for Jennifer Aniston to play another reporter in cahoots with Dermot Mulroney (as Richies dad) as the killers. It would be fun to see Friends reunion between Courtney and Jennifer, would've been a nice callback to Miss Loomis aka Debbie Salt journalist rivalry w/Gale, more peek and dark spin into Gales world of news broadcasting....and killing Gale Weathers in the opening scene would've immediately made Scream 6 iconic and essential. It's a shame how it turned out but it is what it is. Hopefully Scream 7 is better. I have no desire to ever watch Scream 6 again, that's how bad it is to me.😭
