Spoiler! Scream VI - Spoilers

The trailer looks promising...but then so did the one for IV and that movie was pretty poor, turns out.

I do like that this seems very Sydney focused, that it also seems a bit more serious- need to build up that sense of jeopardy after the 'everyone who matters actually survived' turnout of last time- and that they might be shaking up the 'stalk/slash' formula. Ghostface being a relentless onslaught isn't the norm.

Not sure about the rumored return of a former Ghostface, I don't see how the reveal can be done without turning the franchise into a farce. Anyways, I'll check this one out regardless, I don't care about the political boycotting bs.

Some trailers make a film look good because it is good. Some trailers make a film look good because they contain literally every good scene from the film.

I think it’s ridiculous people are wanting to boycott this. Melissa wasn’t even a good lead. Her costar outshined her. It also isn’t Neve or Kevin’s fault she was fired. They just stepped in so that the franchise could continue with the momentum already built by 5 and 6.

I agree I love how Sidney focused this is, and I love that her daughter is named Tatum. It really shows how much these events have affected her.

She's been okay in a few other things...but I didn't care for her 'serial killer heritage super-power' thing, channeling Billy Loomis' ghost in order to kill the pretender-ghost faces was idiotic. Final girls should generally be plucky and heroic, not out-psycho-ing the psycho.
Maybe they were going somewhere with it but I don't particularly care.

I agree about the Tatum callback, lots of fanlove for that online. 🙂

Nobody's mad about missing Melissa's performances. They're mad because she was fired for saying maybe it's not okay to bomb an entire group of people off the face of the earth based on their religion/nationality.

Horrible people fired a good person for showing the bare minimum amount of fundamental human decency.

However, that wasn't Kevin's decision, nor Neve's. Nor the other legacy cast members. OR the hundreds of crew who had a job because of this film. You can believe and support that Melissa was unjustly fired AND still want to enjoy this movie and the franchise. It was a horrible mishandling of politics on Spyglass. But there were hundreds of other people who put their heart into the film. Not everything is black and white, like the media wants us to believe.

I think it's pretty disgusting to even try to categorize this dispute as "politics" in the first place. Literally, they fired her for not being okay with genocide. Trying to pretend that's "just politics" and it's something it's okay for reasonable people to disagree on is pretty much the same tactic bigots use to justify their persecution of queer people, immigrants, and minorities. Trying to redefine it as politics obscures the horrible reality of the situation and shields them from the simple fact that what they're supporting is nothing short of evil in the most plain definition of the word.

I'm not telling you whether or not you should support the movie itself. Frankly, I don't care. But you framed your take as if the people who are upset about it don't have a good reason to be. This has absolutely zero to do with Barrera as an actress so bringing up your evaluation of her performance is irrelevant.

It's perfectly reasonable to not want to give monetary support to a studio that fires people for opposing genocide. Regardless of the fact that other people working on the project may not agree. I'm sure not everyone that works at Twitter or Tesla is in full agreement with Elon Musk, but it's still a very reasonable course of action for people to stop doing business with Elon's companies based on his own actions and belief system.

To be clear, I wasn't the first to attribute the boycotting to political issues. I continued discussion from that point, and even attributed the forward momentum of the franchise to her, despite my thoughts of her not being a good lead.

I believe I quite clearly stated this particular issue is not black and white. It's a very gray issue. And it IS a political issue. Queer rights, immigration and minority eqality are also political issues, so comparison to these issues is missing the target, I believe. Melissa was fired over what was attributed to political beliefs. She stated her opinions on the political maneuvering and decision making of Israel, and the bosses at Spyglass fired her for those opinions. This issue is deeply rooted in politics, and has been since Israel was founded as a Jewish state. Politics literally deriving from the greek root "polis" meaning citizens. So, yes, political.

There's a clear wrong against Melissa, but there's also three decades of love for a franchise — a franchise that shouldn't suffer because the company that owns the rights to this franchise made an egregious decision. When Weinstein was arrested, tried, and convicted of rape and sexual assault, fans didn't boycott the franchise because he produced it, despite there being a TV series in production at that time. Also, a horrible, egregious act--against many women.

I didn't "frame my take" as if people have a bad reason to boycott. I stated it is bit ridiculous to boycott the film. It is perfectly reasonable to have issue with boycotting a beloved franchise due to the actions of someone beyond our control. As evidenced in this very thread, I have supported the direction of Scream V and VI, and the Carpenter sisters, despite Neve being grossly mistreated for Scream VI. And despite my personal belief of Melissa being a terrible lead. In fact, if I remember correctly, I believe I stated that her performance in Scream VI was loads better than her performance in Scream V on this thread. So this isn't a new issue with me. I find it ridiculous to boycott the franchise because of the decisions those at the top make.

Elon musk does not care if people boycott his company. But the people who will be fired because of his politics and potential boycotts DO care. These issues affect hundreds of people. The same issue with the unjust shutdown of Jimmy Kimmel a few weeks back. The people who worked on his show did not deserve to lose their jobs because of the political beliefs of Jimmy. I don't like the political beliefs of JK Rowling, nor her misunderstandings of gender ideology, but I am also glad that hundreds of people will have jobs for the next decade working on the HBO Harry Potter series. Jobs that are not easy to find, and jobs that keep food on the table for them and their families. Two differing opinions CAN coexist at the same time. Many issues have a lot of complex, gray area. They are not binary. We live in a very gray world.

However, and let me be clear, what you're not going to do is use aggressive rhetoric and absolutism to push your viewpoints with me, or anyone else on this board. Believe what you want about this situation, but we're not going to call each other or viewpoints "disgusting". That is counter to the established rules of conduct on this board, and I will not be engaging further with that type of posting. You can present your ideas without bringing personal attacks into it.

I'll just leave, thanks. This place would rather have polite terrible people than let people be impolite to terrible people and I've had more than my fill of it. What an absolutely cowardly way to run a discussion forum.

That’s your opinion and your decision. All are welcome to discuss appropriately here. We will be here if you change your mind!
You'd think that be number seven they'd have got it right, could it be they are the reason why there are so many guns in America?

And 30 years!
RIP the attempted Scream 7 boycott. They tried, they failed spectacularly, Scream 7 has very healthy number of pre-sale tickets thanks to the return of Neve Campbell as Sydney.
Genuinely looking forward to it. I really hope its a return to form; i.e better than VI.

Considering some of the dodgy real world politics behind those boycotts I think it’s in poor taste for you to be so smug. No matter what you think of Scream 5 and 6 the way Barrera was treated was disgraceful.

I always expected this one to do well anyway because of the anticipation and the talking points. But let’s not forget that 5 and 6 also did very well, proving that you don’t need Sidney for Scream to be successful. It remains to be seen if this film will be any good. I have my doubts but hope it is. The fans maybe looking forward to it but there’s a chance a lot of them will be disappointed.

Yeah, I don't care about boycotts or the 'important' reasons behind them. Actress inserts herself into real life political controversy, loses her job and so HER FANS start an attempted fan-war boycott showing they're not really fans of the franchise to begin with.
They picked the fight, they lost, so screw them for being so aggravating and using the same tactic that they always do. Let's not forget that these are the same types that try to cancel JK Rowling and the like. I always celebrater when bullies fail.

And no, I'm not smug, just satisfied that bullies don't get their way. Go clutch your pearls so place else.

The film wasn’t press screened which is always a bad sign. The Rotten Tomatoes score is low. My feeling is it will probably be alright but nothing more. At least 6 changed things up a bit.

Question to people more enthusiastic about the movie than me? If Stu turns out just to be AI like predicted will you be disappointed? It will feel a bit cheap maybe? Also do you expect a cliffhanger to set up the next movie?

Pretty honest non-spoiler review from a die hard fan. The reviews I'm seeing have been very mixed. The most postive said there was some good comedy, and character stuff, but he did conceed the film was a mess. I'm expecting a mess, and for it to play it too safe (a complaint I've also heard).

Heard the last act ruined it all.
The last Sid's speech about Tatum (her friend) was heartfelt & is a good homage. Hannah is one of the few of new characters that I wanted to see more but is the first to die. Ghostface's main target is Sid but the kills are Tatum's friends just to have victims. The revelation, the motive was rushed & the last fight sucked. Scream used to give us a better ending fight with tension. Good that Stu's not back though!
Maybe a nitpick but I wanted Sid's daughter to look more like Sid & not Tatum.

Scream 7 is now the highest at the box office.

Because of the cost of rewrites it needs to make another 50 mill or so to break even, which is very possible based on its opening, the next week will be interesting as it is getting mixed reviews even from fans. It’s still someway off 96 especially factoring In inflation. It’s an impressive start though.
