Season 1; things you would of changed/liked to seen/done different

Okay, so I just finished watching the whole way through Series 1. & wow. Loved it.

There was a few things I thought could of been done differently and it may of been a bit better. As much as I enjoyed, it had a few dodgey episodes, as every TV series has.

The one thing I thought 'hm' about was probably, every time a dead person with no heart fell out of a locker, or a baseball levitated and knocked someone out or whatever, where the police, ambulance etc came and no one in the school seemed to bothered. It just didn't seem very realistic.

I loved season 1 for some reason. I like Buffy's character and I loved Willow and I didn't hate Xander as much because I gave him leeway because he was so young. And Giles is such a hottie. I guess I would have liked to have seen less Angel though. Obviously I don't believe in the Bangel thing, I think it's highly unlikely that this couple would ever happen, Angel doesn't seem like he would go for Buffy.

And the issue of the police never noticing used to bother me - but it's a TV show, so I can look past it with simple reasoning...

More Angel & Buffy build up/romantic scenes. I love, love, love! their relationship but I felt like it was rushed a bit.

As far as the police thig goes, Sunnydale is the party town of the undead, with the high school being the hot spot, so I guess people were just used to stuff like it and reacted with a lot of denial.

What bothered me most is a little bit Buffy's character. Not that she wasn't a good charater, but I like her a lot better in the seasons after that. I can't point my finger on what exactly it was, but there was a difference between her in s1 and the rest of the series.

Hey, yeah I never really noticed Jesse's death being mourned, what's the go with that? And people say that Anya and Tara's deaths were never mourned gracefully.... I loved Buffy's Season 1 outfits, I thought they were cute, also SMG had a little bit more weight on her which made her look cute. I guess I just liked Season 1, it was obviously the first season I watched so I have a lot of time for it in a nostalgic way.

I think you've kinda got to remember that it was filmed in the '90s and the clothes were totally lame and looking on the sort of fashion we have now makes it kinda horrific to even think about.

I found Willows clothes simply awful , and Xanders shirt in Angel just makes me chuckle.

Well i think Buffy was meant to be immature and not as developed at the time, and different. she grows through the seasons.... but also SMG grew as an actress as well so we're seeing the change over time in that too.

In this season as well as in Season 2, I think that there should have been a few mentions of Mayor Wilkins. It's almost as if he just materialized suddenly in Season 3. He was a very important character in Sunnydale, and he should have been at least acknowledged as existing in the first two seasons.

WA, actually there was.. don't you remember (sorry, figure of speech, I know you dont remember or you wouldnt have said it) Synder talking to and about the Mayor all the time. Just little mention here and there, how the Mayor wanted Buffy expelled etc. He actually was mentioned. More than a few times even.

In defense of the difference between Buffy is S1 and the rest of the series, she did die at 16 at the end of S1. That'll change a girl, I suspect. Post Prophesy Girl Buffy knew exactly what her calling could do to her. Pre Prophesy Girl Buffy kinda knew, but didn't know, y'know?

I too love season 1, but feel it's a bit campy and cheesy at times 🙂 And man, I hate that puppet episode...

The idea is ironic; that the citizens of Sunnydale are so used to "unexplained" death and all...🙂

Jesse was never really mourned. I gotta agree with this. I mean, Xander (I just...love him) did a little bit of library violence ("I don't like vampires...") but by the time Thext episode rolled around (the witch..?) they seemed fine, and he is never mentioned again. it's a bit ridiculous

I really didnt like Luke in the first 2 episodes, it sounds silly but just the way he talked and he had these massive lips that made me cringe every time he spoke *shudders*

Yeah, I totally agree with that, they didn't seem that much bothered by it :-(

Cangel- I liked her character, personally. Granted that I was extremely young at the time, but she was as realistic as a girl her age dealing with such an unrealistic situation could be. Plus, she WAS based on the original, wasn't she? I think looking back on the whole series, that her character and it's evolution throughout the series was fantastic. It's one of the few series' that you get to properly watch the character grow up. (Bar Wonder Years and Degrassi, I guess)

@ Whoever said that Willow and Xander dressed dorky; they were supposed to. I mean, to put it bluntly they were geeks.

And I agree with whoever said that it was stupid that Willow and Xander did not mourn for Jesse. Like, their best friend died and they were making jokes the next day...yeah cause that's realistic.

I think the whole Jesse thing never worked. If Joss had got to put him in the main titles like he wanted maybe he would have spent more on it but since he could not do it the way he wanted it was just forgotten about maybe.

I agree with the person who mentioned that after Buffy's first death her perspective really changed. Don't forget the opposite being that she was still supposed to be the airhead-valley girl from Los Angeles in the first season.

I think a lot of time people forget one really important factor about this show, it's called, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and we are maybe so familiar with it that we forget the implication there. Even in the second last ep of season 7 they were still making fun of the name. In other words, it's not suppossed to be 100% serious and Buffy isn't suppossed to be a Nuclear Physicist. Therein lies the charm.

I love Season 1 and wouldn't change a thing.

If I could change stuff, the first things would be silly technical stuff...better cameras, like used from season 3 onward, a higher budget, and have it filmed it anamorphic widescreen.

I also would change the whole vamp face thing, and have the characters dressed in more neutral clothes so they wouldn't look so obnoxiously dated. And I would have erased the "I Robot - You Jane" episode.

One thing? "I Robot, You Jane" sounds like that would be a good clean up. It's always hard trying to get friends to watch Buffy because...well...of Season 1. I mean, besides The Harvest, Angel, and Prophecy Girl, the other episodes are rather lackluster, in my opinion.
