Season 7- Did they fire the Continuity Guy or what?

"Yo Prison Bitch, that ain't how you clean da toilet. I'll show you cuz I got mad skillz"...

I don't know if maybe we're generalizing too much about women in prison...

😀

No, she picked up her sudden Yo-Tourette's sometime between leaving the Hyperion Hotel and arriving in Sunnydale. Which leaves us with two options-

A) Willow picks up hitch-hikers, and they happened to drive past the Ninja Turtles.

or

B) Somewhere along the way, the real Faith stumbled across somebody who looks almost exactly like her, but with a smaller tattoo and stupider vocabulary. Deciding that she was sick of Willow's lame ass travel games, she escaped, free to murder all the low level politicians she could wish to.

"Faith. I have a plan. We need to use this Deus Ex Machina to unlock the Slayer potential of every girl possible, or we don't have chance of holding back armageddon."

"Awesome! Cowabunga!"

"Sorry, what?"

"I was jus' sayin. That's so totally radical."

"Faith? You... you're not Faith! Yo-you're just some extra from Point Break!!"

"Whoa! Don't have a cow, yo. I got Madd Skillz too!"

"Gah!"

Do you mean to say that you have a problem with Faith using Eubonics?

I think that what Jill was trying to say was that it was a drastic change in her character. If she had shown up that way, it would've been one thing, but to go from Angel to Buffy and all of a sudden in what might have been a day, Faith talked like that, it was a bit odd. And it stood out. ALOT.

Isn't it Ebonics? I actually have a problem with anyone speaking/writing in that "language", but that's another thread all together 🙂

Anyways, I definitely think the writers needed to review BTVS S3 and the Angel episodes before writing Faith's S7 lines.

Why do you guys assume that Faith would remain the same after four years? Especially since she spent three of those years in prison? I don't understand.

Well the point is, she was the same Faith with the same experiences as seen in Angel Season 4 and she didn't talk the same from when she moved from Angel Season 4 to Buffy Season 7 (which in Buffyverse time was only a matter of days...)

It seemed as though when she left the Hyperion, her knowledge of the English language as it was meant to be spoken, got left behind as well.

I'd have a similar problem if Spike suddenly started producing a Welsh accent.

The core of her character development was alright, no serious issues there, merely that she adopted mannerisms that came out of the blue, but only on BTVS, not Angel.

To be honest, it's not something that bothers me enormously. I don't wake up screaming about it or anything. It's just unfortunate, is all. I have no problem with different flavours of language, but I sort of got the impression that the writers who were writing Faith this time hadn't been around during season three and hadn't done the catch-up exam.

But was Faith's change in speech really that sudden? After all, she had been in prison for three years. Why do you find such a change after three years so hard to believe?

Because like I said before, if you had been reading the posts, we saw a post-prison Faith in Angel Season 4 who did not talk as she did in Buffy Season 7. These seasons coincided and we saw Faith leave with Willow in Orpheus to return to Sunnydale and fight the First.
