[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSi57Q-O0u4"]Buffyfest interviews Christos Gage and Rebekah Isaacs at NYCC 2011 - YouTube[/ame]
Recap is here (spoilery)
Highlights:
1. So Rebekah's on Issue 7. Christos has just turned in the first draft of Issue 10 and the rewrite of Issue 8, presumably to give a guest artist more time to draw #10, as was the case with #5.
2. Well, no brainer here, but Angel's and Faith's roles are kinda reversed from when Angel stood by Faith when she was in a dark place. Angel's plan to bring back Giles is referenced, and from what it sounds like, it's going to be an ongoing element in the series, and not just the first arc.
3. Not new, but just in case you missed the title of the next arc, it's "Daddy Issues" ("literally, and figuratively").
4. Joss has given Christos permission to do a Lorne story IF he can come up with a good story. Joss can't write it himself yet because Andy Hallet's death is still too close and "painful" for him, but he doesn't see why Christos shouldn't, if he comes up with a good story.
5. Rebekah really wants to draw Spike, but she doesn't know if she'll be able to in A&F. But she's excited to draw Angel, and Giles was just "icing on the cake."
6. Christos knows he'll screw up the British slang here and there, but he really hopes that it doesn't cause the Brits to "wince" at every line. But Rebekah assures him that the guys she hung out with in England thought that he was doing fine. Alan Moore is an inspiration.
7. Faith's dad: "A guy in his 40s, who is carrying around a few too many problems and his best days are behind him". He comes back into Faith's life, and her first reaction is "Oh, he heard I have money now" but apparently it's more complicated than that. Rebekah's original plan was to use Eliza Dushku's real dad as a model, but she decided not to coz she didn't want to invade her privacy like that, so she decided to look up famous actors who were Albanian and went with Jim Belushi.
8. Well, more confirmation on the resurrection plot, both Christos and Rebekah appear to be in the dark, with Christos going with a "50/50" success rate, and Rebekah leaning more towards Giles being brought back BUT she doesn't think that it'll work out just as Angel plans. When asked if Faith would be tempted to agreeing with Angel on the resurrection, Christos offers that if he were Faith, and it seemed that Angel had worked it out, sure, but Faith "knows" that in their universe it doesn't work that way." And that Faith probably feels that Angel has to "come to grips with his own actions and get past that".
9. Angel knows where Connor is but Connor may not know where Angel is. Angel probably feels like Connor is much better off without him in his life. As for the rest of Angel's old gang, "Illyria probably could get to him if she wanted to, she probably doesn't care." But it's basically a "case by case" kinda thing.
10. Not new here, but one member of the Scooby Gang will show up.
11. Joss was very involved pre-Avengers, but since then, lots of short e-mails. They send him everything, and if there are changes Joss wants, he lets them know but he's still very involved with everything. Including story arc titles. Rebekah doesn't have much contact with Joss, but he did send her a very nice e-mail thanking her for working on the book.
12. One word thematic sum-up. Christos: "CONSEQUENCES!"
Rebekah: "Redemption" but since it's such a common theme in Angel's story, she likes "consequences" too.
13. Favorite season of Angel. Because he watched all the seasons in rapid succession, he can't remember what happened in which particular season. But he likes the focus on character moments like "The Zeppo" (yes, that's a Buffy ep). Rebekah's the same way with remembering seasons, but she likes episodes that make her cry. And while everyone always talks about "The Body" (yes, also a Buffy ep), the one that sticks to her is "Forever". And Rebekah loves Cordelia. And Christos really liked the way the relationship between Cordy and Angel developed. He "bought it". And he loves "I Will Remember You" (surprise?).
14. Something to look forward to in Issue 5, for all you people who are all "Angel wouldn't destroy the world with Connor in it!"... it gets addressed there. The answer is "no, he wouldn't", however, if you have ants in your pants for a quick answer. Well... erm, duh?
