Series's Biggest Mistake???

i liked adult connor up until he sent angel to the bottom of the ocean, then i hated him with a passion!! he was a spoilt, open track minded kid who should've been able to see his dad for what he was...a good man.
although, i have to admit, i did like the two reappearences connor made in S5. his story line was worth it all for that little line 'i learnt that from my father' and the look he gave angel from the elevator!!

i think the biggest mistake in this verse was cordy slepping with connor.

Cordy slept with Connor? Eww. Actually, there's a word for that: squik. That must've happened while I wasn't watching the show. Glad I missed it.

to be fair, it wasn't actually cordy who slept with connor. it happened when jasmine had possession of cordy's body. but at the time, no one knew this, so we were all pretty wigged out!

Top 4 mistakes:

Conner
Spikes soul
Getting rid of Cordy from Angel
The Key

Conner ended up not really giving that much to the show IMO, I can understand that Joss and co. wanted to expand Angel more but trying to make him more human and having a baby never really settled well with me, I found Angel to be like Batman never ending up happy and not having a family and well it brought up the whole "shouldnt Conners birth bring Angel a moment of true happiness?"

Spike getting a soul I just hated since IMO it ruined the charecter, and it took away from Angel.

Getting rid of Cordy was also a little mistake, she had been on both shows since day one and to get rid of her the way they did just wasnt right, but making her into a saint also didnt better her charecter for me.

and ofcourse the whole Key issue, I always thought that Dawn would retain some kind of ability since she IS still the key, not just an ordinary human girl.

Same here, i always thought she'd have some powers or something

You should be, glad. Lucky you. I honestly don't really want to ever see those episodes again...

I think the biggest mistake was the whole season 6 arc; Tara dying and Willow getting her death's revenge was completely out of Willow's character; she wouldn't have done that if that season arc were to be written by writers who knew Willow's character. Also, there is something bugging me about the arc of Spike/Buffy relation in the connection of Season 6 and Season 7; in the end of the Season 6, Spike attemped raping Buffy (yeah yeah he stopped himself in time, how blessing isn't it, I mean since he didn't rape her when it was his aim at that moment, he should be a hero; he is a gentleman after all) and in Season 7, Buffy didn't even mention it and put it behind. Why was it? Because he was mad? Or because she was mad? What happened between Spike's attempted rape and Buffy not talking about it? It was a weak character portrayal. Of course, Season 7 is full of them; potentails weren't even portrayed as characters, and it was a fiasco. They were not recurring, they were there all the season so why not deeply examine them? And if they are not worth being examined deeply, why put them there in the show, in the LAST season? It was the last season and we were kept busy by a crowd (potentials) and couldn't consentrate on the core group, it wasn't how it happened in ATS, and I am happy for that. But the "fight keeps going" or "fight never stops" mottos were deserved by the Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

The biggest mistake I could find on either show was pushing Spike into the background in late Season 5 of AtS and introducing the Circle of the Black Thorn in the second to the last episode of the same season.

To be fair, there were extenuating circumstances, you know, sudden cancellation. I think Joss and company did the best they could and I wouldn't fault them for that.

No, I thought Spike had a big enough role in AtS season 5. He might have been big on Buffy but you have to remember than he'd been only a minor character on Angel, just 1 proper appearence right at the start (I'm not including flashbacks).

So to slam him straight into season 5 as a main character was big enough, if he'd been to important it would have been weird for people who only watched Angel. His final task was a bit pathetic (saving the baby) but at least he was in the final scene (unlike much bigger characters such as cordy, wes, connor, lorne etc).

The Circle of the Black Thorn did turn up very late, but you have to remember that it was behind a lot of what had heppened in Angel, it just didn't get given a name & face until the last few episodes.

Would agree if it wasn't that whole thing about getting canceled just like that. But I mean, it was always a bit like that on Angel. Not like on Buffy where you always met the Big Bad pretty early in the season (at least compared to Angel).. Just worked in a different way.. And season 5 of Angel will still always be my favorite, even though I agree that ending thing with the Black Thorn was weird in some ways.

your right Angel always started the end of it's season arc later than Buffy. Plyea was the last few episodes of season 2, I guess you could say grown up Connor in season 3, Jasmine in season 4, and then the Circle of the Black Thorn. I think the reason for this may have been that the WB wanted more stand alone episodes for Angel. Not so much soap opera stuff like season's 2-4.

Yup, and I think this is one of the reasons that the Buffy-seasons made more sense to me, they were in my opinion better as seasons..

James Marsters was billed right after David Boreneaz. Which automatically made him the second biggest star on the show . . . and Spike, the second most important character.

Whatever the circumstances, the Circle of the Black Thorn was introduced too late, as far as I'm concerned. Nor did I care for the back story behind this . . . organization, in the first place. It was a mistake. I think that Whedon should have thought of another way to end the show.

Ok, I've changed my mind. What I think to be the biggest mistake out of Buffy and Angel is when they brought Buffy back after her death in The Gift. It's been said a million times before, and it is quite true in some sense, that the series was at its climax at the end of Season Five.

Nooooo......!

Okay I so understand people who feel like the show should have ended with season 5 but.. even though there is something special about what happened before season 6 and 7, and still love those seasons very much.. And I have started to really really love the way the show ends in season 7 (wow, how many times have I said that I love season 7 the last couple of days, hm, why all these season 7 related threads all of a sudden?)...

I am so glad that they didn't end the show after season 5. Just for one we wouldn't have the musical int that case. But I love season 6 very much anyway, I just find it so interesting to see the characters take this dark path, some more than others.. And also I really like the ending, and the feeling of strenght that Chosen gives me.

Firstly, I respect what you have to say here. But somewhere in there you mentioned the potentials not being examined deeply as characters...I agree to some extent with that, but IMO, I honestly don't think it would've made any difference if we got to see more of who the potentials were. Like you said more or less, this season was busy, so wouldn't it have been even worse if we got to know more about the potentials? I believe it would've taken the focus even further away from the storyline, which was basically to fight the first. So we were drawn into their world where all they were focusing on was one main thing and that was defeating the first...sorry for Off Topic...

On Topic: I also agree with chosenseries, I think Connor was the series biggest mistake

With Angel, I'd say the first third of season 5 had too many stand alone episodes. I know that was a key factor in getting that final season out of the WB, but I didn't think they were very good.

With Buffy, I really think the show should've either ended with season five, or continued on without Buffy. Buffy ceased being an enjoyable, relatable character by the end of season 5. The rest of the cast was way more enjoyable and I think it would've been a bold and brilliant move to continue the show without its star. The graveyard battle scene from the sixth season premiere was awesome, I picture the series being more like that.

I don't agree at all, there har been many signs of Willow turning to magic when she's been hur before and this is simply where she got lost in it, it got out of her control which is understandable with the grief she was under..
