Tonight was so depressing. Each year my grade looses a classmate. Last year it was Tommy McCullen. He died of muscular distrophy. This year it's Ashley Williams. She has cancer. She's not dead yet, but she's not gunna make it another year. They said that to the end of July would be stretching it. She used to be a cheerleader. She was the only freshmen who made the high school squad. She's also African American (that might not mean nothing now, but just read on). There was a concert tonight at the PAL (a recreationaly building) and admission was 7 dollars. The money that was raised went to paying for her hospital bills. A couple of my friends went with me. No one showed up besided the band and their groupies. There were 30 people there tops. 10 people who were playing at the concert, 3 police men, 7 groupies, and 10 people who came to show support. Ashley got there and it was so sad. She's so weak that she can't even walk. They have to push her around in the wheel chair. You can see every single bone in her body. Her body is so pale that even though she's a dark colored African American girl, who skin is the color of a white person that stays inside to much. She was in horrible shape. I felt like crying for her when I saw her face. It was clear that she was expecting her friends to be there with welcoming arms, but no one showed up. How would you feel if one of your last experiences on earth was one that showed you no one cared about you? It was a horrible night. My friends and I couldn't stay there because it was to depressing so we left. Everyone that is religious please keep Ashley Williams in her prayers.

Jeez...I'm not very religious, but Ashely will definitely be in my thoughts. Poor girl...to show up to something with high hopes, then be crushed by the lack of attendence. What's wrong with people nowadays?...Heartless stuff like that makes me feel really cynical...

She's only 14-years-old. She's one of our youngest freshmen. She had high expectations, definetly. A bunch of people through a fund together to buy her a prom dress and send her to the junior prom this year because...well...she won't make it to ours... so, gosh... i just feel really bad...

It's good to hear that there are people out there like you and those that helped raise the funds in the world. Kudos to you for not being one of those people who pretend to care.

Wow Mike reading your thread just sent shivers done my spine..that is soo horrible..i guess you really find out who your friends are..i'm glad you went even if you didn't stay..at least you made the effort..you truly are a great guy!
I'm not religious either, but if you see Ashley tell her i said hi...although it wont mean much to her, but we will probably all be thinking of her!...this might be a bit insensitive but it reminds me of the age old thing of "who will turn up at my funeral".
Anyways gonna shut up now before i start crying thinking about it! 🙁

And I really don't get it. I mean, she was our freshmen class president too. We voted her in. There's like 360 kids in our class and she would have had to had more than 50% of the votes to win and that's like 180. So there should have been like 180 people there...

Poor girl. I dont know how I could deal if I was in her situation. It's not right when someone so young get cancer. I'll be thinking of her

Cold-hearted, evil, selfish, turd bucket ****-ups of nature!! Those people who didn't attend should be the ones in that wheel chair not her! Gah, People like that make me so bloody mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People make me so angry! I gotta give my respect to you though Hero cause you are one of the people that care. There isn't too many of them left in this world. I feel so bad for the girl. It breaks my heart.

I only spoke to her a couple times last year, so I didn't know her to well...but...she's still a person. And a care about anyone until they give me a reason not too. It just sucks so bad... She still has a whole life a head of her and now she only has a month or two left.

That's so sad. I think if this was happening to even my deepest enemy I would go. It's so harsh just not going, not even for five minutes, or heck just paying the money towards the hospital bills.

It seems to me that people that ignore the silent pleas of others are an indication of the current society in the world. The people are so wrapped up in themselves that they either don't notice or don't care about anyone else. I really don't think that many of the people mean it out of ill intent, rather they just don't understand or hear the cries of those in need. Whereas the "people like us" hear the cries and can't fathom why noone else is helping.

Situations like this continue to reinforce my disregard for many of the people on this planet. Grrrr!!!!! It gets me so frustrated.

But for those of us who do care I hope that we always will. Furthermore please wish the best to the young girl if you speak to her, let her know that people do care.

Oh my I was tearing up while reading that. I'm so sorry. You know what, people are the most seflish, self-involved creatures sometimes.

My prayers are for her and you as you go through this awful time. Hang in there sweets!

I thought we needed to hear this again.

I work in an industry that has a high rate of cancer deaths due to work environment and bad lifestyle choices (smoking). I've had friends (men and women) with little kids die, and guys with grandkids too. The one thing that I'm thankful for is the support my fellow workers give to these folk. That being said, for the most part mankind is becoming much more callous about the situation of our fellow man (I'm including women here too, but my overly anal Elementary English teachers won't allow me to use "personkind", etc...sorry). I bet if you asked some of the slugs that didn't show up they'd say, "oh, I figured there'd be lots of people, so I bailed," or some such h*******t. People are such idiots. But Hero, why am I not surprised that you showed? People, if we all were a bit more like Hero, the world would be a better place, by a factor of 10...thanks for caring, dude! And say "Hey" to Ashley for me...

That's so sad! I'm almost crying here! Poor girl...Things like this is so sad...and people not showing up! Makes me so angry! ::fire::
I liked what you said Hero, about that you care about people until they give you a reason not to. I think that will be my new favourite quote, and my new motto!

wow, dwarf, if the world was more like me they'd be checking into the hospital for pnemonia every week. LoL. Omg. I don't know what to say to her. All I did when I saw her was smile and nod. Like... I dunno... What would I say? I mean, I'd probably cry or something if I started talking to her because she's just skin and bones now and she used to be so full of life. I dunno if I could handle it and more importantly I dunno if I'd be able to sit there and not be able to do something about it. That's why I went. I want to help. I need to help her somehow. I can't just sit back and watch a young person die before her time. It's just not right...

Yup, and we'd all have good friends telling us to take it easy, or we'll end up in the frickin' hospital...🙂

No, it's not right, but unfortunately it's all too common. Any comfort you give, well, I'm not all that religious, but I figure you'll get it back some time you really need it...

I guess I should believe in God because I think it would be better if I thought she'd go somewhere happy instead of...just gone.
