Shoes on or off?

I don't even wear shoes outside if I can help it. Or at work at my desk. I hate wearing shoes. Although when it gets 100+ outside I have to wear flip flops at least or burn the skin off my feet... mine isn't so much a cultural thing as it is a personal comfort thing though. Most people here don't care if you wear your shoes inside although putting your shoes on a couch or furniture would get you in trouble.

fyi running barefoot through the grass = sublime.

I usually wear flipflops, so the moment I sit down on the furniture, they come off. If people want to take their shoes off in my house they're welcome to, but I would never ask someone to unless I had carpet, which I do not.

I need to ask since a lot of people keep saying bare-foot. Is that the same for you as having socks on? At least here it's a huge difference. Not many people walk around bare-foot in their shoes when it's not summer. I wouldn't be comfortable walking around bare-foot inside all the time either. Very, very far from it. Maybe it's the difference in weather you have difficulty to really grasp.

That's right, socks on or not.

I do almost always take my shoes off, but I would be very uncomfortable walking around in a strangers house without socks on. I'd just feel naked. So socks on for me, all year long (that is also for comfort) just in case I have to enter a strangers home.

I'm not sure if other people usually prefer me to have socks on or not when entering their homes, I have no idea what our culture actually says about that.

I live in Italy and when you go to people's home you don't take your shoes off..unless it's a close friend, you're hanging out etc and they ask you to. I guess it's a familiarity kind of deal because when I go to my boyfriend's I always take my shoes off. When I am in my own house then I can always be barefoot, or wear socks or slippers..whatever I want.

Hrm, I think it's a culture thing again. I can't remember the last time I wore socks (apart from soccer/training). In winter I'm generally in stockings and heels/flats, and in summer I'm in ballet flats or sandals or heels.
