Should Buffy have been in the finale?

Joining in with the Girl In Question lovefest! I really enjoy that episode every single time i watch it. The bar fight and subsequent chase scene is just priceless.

If i had to say one bad thing about it then that would be that it was in an unfortunate position in the run of episodes. If you remove the Illyria/Fred's parents subplot then the main story could have been placed anywhere in the season and i do think it would have fitted better a little earlier on, maybe even before Fred died, so as not to break the dark momentum of the final season arc. But apart from that small detail i absolutely loved it!
 
Well, i think it was placed in the middle of the final season arc to break tension. My English teacher told me about it. Most writers/authors build up suspense, then break the suspense with an "out of place/comedic scene"(or episode in this case), to leave you wanting more. Or to build up tension again.

Perhaps, but you also have to consider character motivation and believability. Given everything Angel had put into motion and the fact that he was going out of his way to act like he was going all Angelus again, you would think that all the fooling around with Spike in Italy would be a little bit of an issue.

Maybe it wouldn't have been so bad just a couple of episodes earlier even, but immediately before the final payoff of the season arc made it a little too much to accept. Kind of like putting Doublemeat Palace in the middle of the final arc of season six of Buffy. Just not the right place. Still a great episode though.

The Girl in Question, i mean, not Doublemeat Palace, obviously! 😀
 
I wouldnt have minded to see Buffy in the finale but it ended fine the way it did. And if they did bring in Buffy, I wouldve liked them to bring the Scooby Gang along to help and have them take direction from Angel on what to do.

But I just wanted to see Buffy(not some stand-in) in an episode thats all really.
 
I hated fake Buffy. Sure the likeness was good, but it was still pretty obvious, and also unnecessary. Not one of my favourite episodes (still great cause of the Illyria story though).

Buffy in the finale...this is really hard. I think I would have preferred her to Connor. The Connor story had been wrapped up well, I liked having the ending of origin where you're not sure if he knows or not. He didnt need to come back for the finale.

But having Buffy be the one who comes back at the end to save Angel would also not be perfect. Like people (including Joss) have already said it would have made Angel seem like a spin-off and not a show in its own right.

I personally would have had Faith instead. Unlike Buffy she's pretty much equal on both shows- sure she started on btvs and has been in more btvs eps but has had just as much action on Ats (and her action figures are Ats based). I thnk it would have fitted pretty well.

Good post, agreed with pretty much everything you said. Not sure I'd want Faith there either but I still agree with what you said about her.
To have Buffy in NFA would have taken time from the main characters and and they even had not enough time for them as it was. Also, with Buffy emphazising how much she distrusted Angel because he was at W&H her appearance would simply have been wrong.

As far as I remember, Buffy did not say such a thing, Andrew said that she did. So, can be false.
 
Yeah, Andrew said his instructions came from Buffy herself and nobody on their side didn't trust him anymore .. why should he lie, he has no personal history with him? Also Giles said the same thing in Shells .. I think they are all on the same page there.
 
Just because she didnt trust Wolfram and Hart and possibly she didnt trust that Angel was doing the right thing by running it, doesnt mean she wouldnt have helped him if he needed it. True Love and all that.

But the issue is, should she have been in the finale, not would she have helped him.

But Andrew has a history in BTVS in which he is not thrustworthy, he can sell out friends and change sides.
 
I really don't think it is constructive for the scoobs to of been in nfa,Buffy's presence would of taken the focas off Angel. They made their opinions clear in damage and shells, plus Buffy and Angel have grown so far apart by the looks of things that the trust issue would definatly of got in the way.

But that was before he became part of the Scoobie gang and Giles best buddie and expert on rogue slayers.

Because it would have made no bloody sense and she would have had to choose between the two most likely which would have been stupid. WHY make the finaly about that?

I agree. It would have been so corny having the finalie be about Buffy choosing. The show is called Angel not Three's Company.

And since when was AtS supposed to have a Bangel ending. I'd say TGIQ told us the exact opposite. Thank god ! :santa:
