About the only way that I could see for Faith to have returned to Sunnydale (see my previous post about the Council's actions upon confirming Buffy's death) would have been if she had somehow been released into Giles' custody soon after Buffy died, and had been helping Spike and the Scoobies patrol the hellmouth during the summer between Seasons 5 and 6. In that case, Buffy's resurrection would have been postponed for a couple of episodes, possibly expanding on the difficulty in setting up the resurrection spell, then having the two Slayers reach some sort of reconciliation of their mutual problems and actually, finally, become friends after Buffy finds out how hard Faith had worked during the months that she was gone, patrolling the hellmouth and helping protect Dawn. But, after a few weeks, both girls would come to the realization that having two Slayers on one hellmouth was a bit overkill, especially when there was another one, pretty much ignored and running wild, in Cleveland. Sadly but resignedly, Faith would accept the inevitable and head back East to establish her own territory and set up her own team (and, of course, star in her own series), possibly with Oz as her Watcher.
