Should the show have ended after "The Gift"?

First of all I didn't like Season 6 at all, and Season 7 was even worse. But if they ended it by Season 5 finale, I'd be furious. I'd have wanted more. I still do. 😀
 
No. I loved noth seasons 6 and 7. I thought they season six finale was one of the best, and they each had their fair share of very good episodes.

I've got one word for you why its a good thing it didnt end after season five.
Storyteller. haha im sure many peopel hate this eppy with a passion but i absolutely love it. Andrew is hilarious.
 
I don't think it should've ended at all but here we all are clinging onto these boards as one of our last sources of Buffy. I mean if the show had ended after season5 our memory of DAwn would have beensome whiny baby teenage brat. We'd have never met the Trio which means no Andrew which is a horrible thought. Willow would have never gone evil which means XAnder would have never gotten his chance to save the world and I think out of everyone Xander deserved it. There's have been no Spuffy action which I could live with but I know a lot of people who can't. The gang although they were growing up wouldn't have gotten the chance to become the adult's and take on the resposiblilities that they did. But yeah there are probably more reasons out there but those are the one's I'm using.
 
I think that The gift was a great episode one of the most interesting episodes in the BUffy history but still I think that season 6 and 7 are my favourtie so i really can't let them go
and If buffy ended in season five we wouldn't have SPUFFY
 
No way!! im soo glad it went on, knowing that Buffy finished alive was great, it it ended with her dead...then...well.....see im speechless..i just wouldnt like it...at all:freak:
 
I only started watching BUffy from season 6, so if it ended with the gift you fine people would never have had the pleasure of "meeting" me! See, thank the lord for seasons 6 and 7, eh??!
 
I actually think they probably should have gone with another Slayer at the end of Season 3 (send Buffy off to college and do a new generation with the original Scoobies appearing for big events), but her death at the end of S5 would have been another good place to do something with it.

Her second resurrection didn't really do anything for me... been there, seen that, got the second Slayer. Coulda broken out Faith or had a third Slayer show up then too if they felt they had to do S6/7 but wanted to leave Buffy in the ground.

Yes, because I thought S7 was WAY weaker in terms of story than S5. Actually, I think, with the exception of a couple of the earlier seasons, S5 tops most of the series. It would've been a perfect way for the show to go, at it's peak. I felt that the S6 and S7 [while I have my reasons to love both] were just kinda lagging, stretching the time out until the series finale. Ending the show with S5 would've been with a bang, not a whimper.
 
Not at all. It would have been a powerful ending. One everyone would remember. And it would have worked given the type of show it was.
 
I'll say this though.

Whether the series should have ended with "The Gift" or not, I think that, having had Buffy die in that heroic and hugely dramatic way in the episode, the option was probably lost for having her die at the real conclusion of the series two seasons later. It couldn't have possibly had the same effect, and everyone would have a hard time accepting it as final. Like Xander said in "Villains" - "This dying thing..."

I was just making a further comment about what it meant to have Season 5 end that way when it was time for the real end of the series.
 
hell no, if the show had ended I wouldn't have my scythe, lol...it is so pretty. And I need more Buffy. I watch it so much and to think I would have to start at season 1 right after season 5 seems wrong. I admit...Buffy dieing a hard core ending, but too sad and not so superheroish to me...to me ppl. 😉 Always good to have more Buffy. (forgive me, I am in a great peppy mood)
 
Whedon ended Season Five with the death of Buffy because the show had been canceled bt WB, and negotiations with UPN weren'e complete. It would have been a good ending for the series if it lead into a spinoff (like maybe Faith being released from prison and coming back to Sunnydale to take Buffy's place. That way, all of the sets and any support actors willing to return could do so.) As things turned out, however, the show moved to UPN, and the final two years of SMG's second three year contract held, so Seasons Six and Seven were made. (For all the math majors out there, Ms Gellar's first contract was for twelve episoded with the option to renew for three years if the show sold. The second three year contract was signed while BUFFY was still a WB product. Gellar made the statement once that "I don't want to make BUFFY anywhere but here on the WB." That was one of the main reasons that she left the show after the second contract expired.
 
I like your idea white avenger, and since im not real big on season 6 and 7, defintly not al lovin for me, but i think chosen was a pretty powerful finale, i liked chosen, i wish maybe some things were different, and idk, it might have added way more innuendo for a spin-off if they had ended it with season 5.
 
i really liked to see how the gang menaged without buffys help in bargaining... i loved the idea to replace buffy with the buffybot. so my answer is no.. i dont think that it should have ended.
 
if it had ended then, while that would have been an amazing and epic ending, i would not have my favourite season, so my answer is no.
 
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, and NO.

Season five was not a good enough season to end the show. In fact I consider it only a tad stronger than season four overall, and season four is my least favorite season right now. Glory's cool in concept but lacked something for me in execution, and it would be a shame for her to be the last villain Buffy ever faced.

Season six right now is one of my favorite seasons (which was formerly the third season) and it has some fantastic episodes. The Trio is great for a faux Big Bad. I haven't seen season seven in its entirety but I *loved* what I did see. Caleb was awesome and the finale, "Chosen", is a much more fitting finale than "The Gift".

While "The Gift" was among the best Buffy episodes ever, and was very touching and all that, the show still felt incomplete. There was still too much to cover, too much characterization to go, too many more stories to tell...I think that "Chosen" had more feelings of closure than "The Gift" did.

And N4H, in a perfect world we'd be waiting to see next week's episode of "Faith, the Vampire Slayer", not season 3423948203948 of Buffy. 😉
