I think the whole idea of slayer strength was never truly defined on the show, because one moment a Buffy can't kick down a metal door, the next moment she can. One moment a slayer is soon with like super speed the next moment she isn't. One moment Buffy is picking up some metal iron things that weight several hundred pounds, the next moment she's having trouble lifting something up that's about equal weight. A slayer is suppose to be much stronger then a human being so a slayer kicking a human across the room or punching it with like full force should virtually kill them or cause internal bleeding as humans aren't demons or vampires. Another moment Buffy(which I believe is her greatest feat of strength) can bend prison bars to get Andrew and Jonathon out of jail, yet she seemed to struggle a little bit to bend a hollow metal rifle. Also we get to slayer speed, Buffy has been shown to able to jump really high, but yet Faith wasn't able to do all that jumping when she fought Angel in Season Four, I believe the episode was Release. And I can keep going but I won't.

At one point, Angel told Buffy that she was stronger than he was. Luke, in the pilot episode, said when first confronting Buffy, "You're strong. I'm stronger." That makes me believe that a Slayer may have superhuman strength, but there are things out there just as strong or stronger, As for the inconsistencies ti Slayer powers on the show, the obvious answer is a combination of dramatic affect and different script writers.

A good "Buffyverse" answer, however, might be that it's sort of like the Incredible Hulk: the madder he gets, the stronger he becomes. With the Slayer, it might have something to do with a sort of super adrenaline charge. When she really needs it, it's just there. Under normal circumstances, her strength is much greater than normal, just not superhuman.

Ok, well White avenger said alot fo what I was going to say but..

I think the super strength thing is different, I think if a slayer is up on her game, they are as stronger, or stronger than the average vampire or demon, I mean thats obvious, they needed her to be, but I also think that if a slayer is sick, or hasn't been training, or is injured, they arent as up on their game as they should be, meaning theyre alil less strong. I remember in season one when Buffy had trouble shutting a metal door closed. I think that had alot to do with what a new slayer she was, and how much strength she needed to accumulate with the years. I think, the longer a girl is the slayer, the stronger they become.

Also, to answer your Faith vs. Buffy jumping power, I think it varies to what slayer can do what the best. I think its kind of like a skill, theres some things your strong at and some things your not, Faith seemed to also have a lot more agility and a faster healing skill than Buffy, and I think Buffy's speed and her ability to jump high had an advantage over Faith's abilites to do the same. I also believe their powers are based one 1. theyre emotions, and 2. the adrenline in them. Like White avenger said, the more adrenline pumping through them, the stronger they are..which is actually how it is for most people. They're emotions I think weigh heavily on their ability to do things. Like if a slayer is hurt, or upset, her powers will take the hit for it, and won't be up their best. I think the powers the slayers are given are to match the human inside of them, to uptain compatiablitiy.

Well to respond to both of you the reason Luke was stronger then Buffy was because she was only 16 then, but if Luke was still around now, Buffy would be a hell of a lot stronger then he is. Also I doubt Buffy and Faith and THAT different, granted Buffy is more skilled then Faith because she trained more then Faith did but they're both slayers which means they have the same ability/powers. No slayer is stronger then another, a slayer might be more skilled then another slayer, but they all have the same power and if Buffy was jumping super high in Season One, why can't Faith seem to do that too?

Well, keep in mind, Faith is Buffy's oppisite. And wasn't it said in season 2 around there, that each slayer has a special skill that they can do better than say another slayer. Also, remember, theres only always been one slayer..so its a new thing to be able to compare the two. I mean, think of it tis way, when Kendra was around, she could have deifnitily been a better slayer than Buffy or a worse slayer because Kendra followed the rules and trained properly.

Buffy's "special power" was defined in the original movie,

Buffy--"I have something none of the other girls have,"

Merrick--"And what, pray tell, is that?"

Buffy--"My keen fashion sense."

D
Darling Faithy
hahahaha her fashion sense is about 10 years back nowadays lmao.
Just like how stupid the writers were when they were killing off vampires (over HALF of the scenes where vampires get staked are COMPLETELY UNREALISTIC, going by the show's universe), the show was very inconsistent with Buffy's strength. Sometimes she's shown as only being slightly stronger than vampires, not able to do extreme damage to metal or anything, and in another episode she bends the barrel of a gun like it's taffy.

I just shrug it off and move on. (Except the vampire deaths...that always bothers me.)

True, I'd have to agree Darling Faithy above.

And besides, When Buffy usual broke stuff in an instant was when she became emtionally involved with her fighting.
Like she told Kendra in Season 2, her emotions give her power, they're a total asset! lol
