Snow in the UK!!!

OK so random thread I know 😛 But it's been forecast that we are in for snow this December! SO that got me thinking, is anyone prepared for snow this winter? Do you like the snow or hate it? I remember 2010 and we were so unprepared it was amazing. It bought the UK to a standstill. I know other countries cope very well and are used to it but here in the UK we are never prepared for any weather it seems!

I love the snow as long as it doesn't interfere with my travelling back from uni, then I hate it with a passion. I hope it does snow, makes everything so crisp and clean.
 
I love the snow until it turns into ugly, grey slush and freezes then I just think it looks a mess. I would like a white Christmas though but apparently it's only classified as a white Christmas if it snows in London on Christmas Day, which I never knew until recently.
 
Where I'm from (Australia) we have the complete opposite of a snowy Christmas. Temperatures in the high 30s (Celsius) and the day is usually spent near a pool or at least near some form of water. Polar opposites for sure (pun fully intended).
 
We rarely have a large accumulation of snow here in NW Georgia. I can only recall one white Christmas in my whole 65 years. So, we're not prepared for any sort of MAJOR snowfall. In 1993 ("Up To Our Knees In '93") we had a single overnight fall of almost 40 inches, followed by subfreezing temperatures for about 10 days. Power lines were knocked down and there were people who actually had to be rescued from their homes because of no heat and little or no food. Afterward, people started stocking up on extra canned goods and batteries, just in case of any other future disaster, but we've grown complacent again since then. Another catastrophe like that will catch most people unprepared again.
 
I like a white Christmas, but we rarely get them anymore. It's not unusual for there to be snow 50 miles in any direction from where I live, but none here. It's pretty depressing. Seems like temperatures are about 10 degrees warmer than they were when I was a kid, across the board. Summer and winter, day and night.

I don't need a ton of snow... just enough to cover the ground and make it look like a respectable Christmas.
 
I hope it snows- I love snowy Decembers. I love dressing up as warm as possible, putting on my furry hooded cloak (goes over coats to protect you from snow) and crunching around in the nearby wood with my wellies on. And getting in and cosying up in front of the log fire and watching old christmas movies. Heavenly. It doesn't really bother me when I can't get into work or anywhere (like in 2010 when everything stopped for like a week in my town) because I just think 'well, it's tough. Can't be helped' and I just go with the flow and enjoy my snowy Christmas, hehe!
 
We've had melting snow here last week-end. Unfortunately it was over 0C so it didn't stick (it was melting before even touching the ground.

I'm hoping for snow in 2 weeks max. Needs to accumulate a little before Christmas 😀 And in January it'll all become slushy and brown and freezing and horrible and we'll want winter to be over, but until then I want snow!!

Don't even get me started on Londoners and snow! Although it was quite bad that year I got stuck in at Wimbledon...what a shame!

I don't mind the snow, i'm Scottish, 6ft snow drifts are nothing new to me. Its the ice I hate, I end up cracking my head on the pavement at least once a year.

I have to say that Edinburgh Council is pretty good when it comes to being prepared for the weathers. The airports and trains on the other hand need to get on it, come on, its not like its a surprise. There are places in the US that have worse snow than we do and can still operate flights and trains.

Its usually not that bad up here around Christmas, its more towards New Year it gets really bad. For that reason i'm leaving here on Boxing Day for your neck of the woods [MENTION=11394]Enemies[/MENTION] so please tell me that it is decent down there. If I can't catch my flight, heads will roll.
 
We never get much snow here... I live in Kentucky, and we have never gotten more than 8 inches of snow, or so. That's a LOT of snow for us, though, so when we do get that much people act like it's the end of the world. LOL The whole Army post closes down and people go to the store and stock up on food the night before, like we're going to be snowbound for weeks instead of a day. 😛
That being said, I can't wait for snow. The kids always have so much playing in it, and I love to make snow cream!! I really hope we get snow for Christmas...
 
Well in Oklahoma we get very little snow. Mostly we get ice 🙁
On the rare occasion we get a freak blizzard like a we did a two or three years ago, we get hoards of snow and it is fantastic, but then everyone drives like idiots as though they have never seen snow before!
Oklahoma weather is AWFUL! Example: This morning it was 28 degrees outside....end of next week is supposed to be in the near 80s. We bounce up and down on the heat scale all year long!

Well, I'm in Arizona right now, but my home is in Vancouver, and we're expected to have snow there pretty soon. I love the snow. Love it. Everything is just...prettier with snow around.

Another reason I'm not keen on snow around Christmas is the chaos it causes on the roads because I usually do a lot of travelling over Christmas.

I'm coming to Worcester or Hixton from 26th-29th (it is either my friend's or her parents, we are not sure yet) as on the 29th I fly to Orlando for two weeks. So i'll be in the sun for New Years. We got tickets to Universal City Walk event for New Years itself.

Edinburgh is amazing at this time of the year. With the German market and all the lights, at night it just looks amazing with the castle. If you ever come up please let me know!
 
Worcester itself is lovely. There's some good restaurants and bars. Are you flying from Birmingham to Orlando? I'm so jealous your new year sounds like its going to be awesome. I might go to Scotland next year for my birthday in March. If I do go I'll let you know and you can give me some pointers 🙂 if you want any ideas for when you're in Worcester let me know.
 
I was down in the summer, I love it, it is just so quaint. I was so happy to find a restaurant/cafe that specialised in gluten/wheat/dairy free food. Everyone was laughing at me, charming friends as I kept automatically called it 'Warchester' - guessing i'm not the only one!
 
WE GOT SNOW!!!!!! okay, not a lot... but it's supposed to snow again today!!!

You should have seen me yesterday when I got out of college. I was grinning like ad idiot all the wy home, in the bus XD
 
We've had our first batch of snow for the season now.
It started yesterday and snowed most of today. No crazy amount or anything though.

Still, it's just as awful as all previous years anyway... 😡
