Snyder's Grave in "First Date"

At first I thought they'd just stuck the SNYDER onto the front of an existing stone, because it didn't seem to be related. However, I think I can see "Snyder" on the stone itself too. The dates don't nearly match up, but it could be a family tomb?

What I can make out - and this is a very shaky reading - is the following:

There is a large S above the inscription
The first line is illegible
The next looks like decoration
It looks very much like Snyder is the surname, though it does looks like it's been misspelled "SYNDER"! The first name is mostly illegible, but it doesn't begin with R, so we know it's not referring to the Principle. I'd like to think it says Armin though. That'd be a nice nod...if a little morbid!

I think the next line says "Born", but it could be the initials of a title or honour?

The date is very clear though:
"OCT. 6(or 8) 1806"

Then I think it's

"DIED
33 YRS"

The rest is illegible.

This is why we need Buffy blu-rays. 😉

Bottom line, it's not him. Unless he was about 200 years old.

Why do I find myself not dismissing that possibility out of hand. 😛

To be honest though, I have a feeling they never thought anyone would pay that much attention to it! I think the fakeness of the "SNYDER" part would suggest that it is a reference to the character, but...they just stuck it on a grave with an S on it.
 
Or.... another option. Maybe Snyder wasn't human. Like the Mayor. He was 100 years old, not human, but everybody thought he was. That would explain his (Snyder's) hate for the Slayer and all of his evilness.
 
about the dates - it could be that it's a family plot and his name and dates are on a different face of the memorial.

LOL, no I don't think he's that old, maybe in his late 40s or 50s. My grandma lived to be 90.

OK, so I looked it up. If you base it on Shirmerman's date of birth, he's 63 now, so he would've been 50 at the time of Buffy season 1. I know that's old to a lot of you all, but he easily could've still had living parents in theri 70s or 80s.

Nahhh, I think he would have killed them because they were sitting on each other in the cafeteria, didn't want to volunteer for Halloween, and didn't keep things in order and in quiet.
 
pretty sure i read somewhere that that gravestone is a real gravestone and was just a coincidence as thats a real graveyard and not the fake backlot graveyard

Thats what I would think if the dates were on the Tomb
 
That big marker is a family marker, not for an individual grave site. The actual graves are marked by the smaller stones to the left of and behind it, so obviously, Snyder had family living in Sunnydale, or had had in the past.
