Not sure if I should or not, can someone convince me if this is Joss Whedon's best show since BTVS/Angel

You really should give "Firefly" a shot. This show has some of the best writing and the best ensemble of characters I've ever seen. When I first read the premise of the show, I convinced myself I would hate it, but I kept hearing such wonderful things about it from people here on the boards... Finally, after my husband saw "Serenity" and told me it was amazing, I decided to buy the series and I'm so glad I did. I fell in love with it and I think you will too. If you like the kind of humor the writers give us on BtVS, you'll love "Firefly".

Cause my best friend Rebecca said she loved Firefly and said it was Joss's best show

I wouldn't say it's Whedon's best show (it only ran 14 episodes and a movie), but if you liked Buffy and Angel you will like this show. Incredible characters, lots of Whedon humor, and superb writing. If you don't watch it you will be missing a great show.

How do you mean? Since? I think if it ran for a longer time, it could have given Angel and Buffy a run for their money. Or do you mean since as in after(even though it started airing during them or atleast during Angel)? Because it's definitly better than Dollhouse, in my opinion. A lot less characters you want to strangle.

Really, it's brilliant, watch it. Or strat by watching the movie, which I did, and decide if it's worth your time.

There's also a Free Comic Book Day Star Wars/Serenity comic available on darkhorse digital if you want to check it out.

You can buy the DVD really cheap these days so it works out to about $1 per hour for top notch entertainment. Can't beat that 🙂

Two weeks later. Have you bought it or do you need more convincing?

After reading yesterday's post, I realized that I referred to "Firefly" as being "awesome" about 15 separate times. You may be wondering why I think that about a show that was only on for a year. You may be wondering why a whole bunch of people think that, and why they think it's so awesome that they would do something as silly as trying to raise money to buy the show from a studio that probably has 0 interest in selling the property (despite the fact that they will probably never do anything with it again).

Here goes. Things that made "Firefly" awesome.
Rest in the link. Obviously.

It is. It really is. I actually watch it more than Buffy or Angel. Or Dollhouse for that matter. Just bought it on Blu Ray even though I already have it on regular DVD - and I don't do that unless it's something I watch a lot.

Firefly was an amazing show, I only wish that it hadn't got cancelled, it has so much potential. But anyway, theres not much to say other than, you should definitley get it!

Taking this thread to another direction. Sorry.

It's easy to get frustrated by shows you love getting cancelled but in the end it comes down to what people watch. Compared to what it costs to make the shows. Money is what matters. Have we heard it before? Of course but that's not the same as liking it. Newspapers, "real" or online write about what sells/get the most hits. Which mostly are gossip and scandals.

So in general we are to blame. Not you and me specificly but as viewers. In the end we decide what's shown. It's much easier to blame the big bad companies though. I do that all the time. I'm good at cursing the tv companies for what they decide to air or cancel.

When it comes to Firefly though it didn't really get a chance the way FOX handled things. It being cancelled is sad (enough) but the way it got treated is way worse.

I agree, theres actually a pic just like this one but instead of blaming the company, it blames the viewers. I couldn't find it though :/

But you're right, it is "our" fault.

I bought the DVD a few months ago, and so far I've only watched the first disc (first 3 episodes). 😛 I heard it gets better but I haven't gotten very into it yet. But it does have that Whedon humour to it, and the characters are interesting. 🙂

I always recommend Firefly, not only for its excellence as a gateway drug to the Whedonverses, but also because it's less of an imposing time commitment like Buffy or Angel. I've only had one person not get hooked; he was offended that there were horses for some reason!

lmao! Space, cool, end of the known civilization, okay.. horses?? Nooo! :D That's funny! ;)
Once I've done my Dollhouse re-watch I'm going to buy this boxset. I've only watched the odd episode here and there and I remember watching Serenity before I'd even seen the show (which I know is strange) but I really enjoyed the film.
