So that really wasn't "Amy" in "Witch"?

Yep, Amy's mom took control of her daughter's body because she didn't agree with the choices that she was making. So, using her control of witchcraft, she swapped bodies. It's kinda similar to what Buffy and Faith did in Season 4, only with more Magick than a certain device.

The trophy is actually lying on the ground when they go to the school in (I want to say Doomed? The Episode were those demons have to jump into the hellmouth to open it in season 4)

I think it's in the bit were Oz says their were the corridor used to be!

All the ppl useing her in her life is one of the things I just wrote about in a fic.
Amy was used by her mom and clearly Rack used her. she dint have the support system Willow did.
I think its one of the driveing factors in her useing that powerful glamor on Willow.
Though I think Willow should have done something after that....good or bad.

I've always hated that so many fans dismiss Amy as just a villain when they are so quick to look for reasons to forgive Faith, Anya, Willow, and others for doing things just as bad or worse

I have to disagree, why would Amy have become bitter and vengeful, especially at Willow, if Willow helped turn her back into a human? Amy was cut off from her dad due to her mom, but she was reunited with him right away after her mom was sucked into the trophy. Amy wasn't the only one ostracized at the school. Her friend was getting bullied (Forgot his name) and was beatin by his parents. Willow and Buffy were also going to be burned at the stake. And Buffy isn't even a witch. Her turning into a rat, she has no one to blame but herself.

I personally feel, once the debacle with her mom was over, she became curious as to what her mom was dabbling with. I think Amy became obsessed with gaining that power she saw her mom possess. Which explains why she went to Rac, why she became envious of Willow, and why she hexed her. She couldn't handle someone else being more powerful than her. She even said "Willow always had the power, even before she knew it"

Do I think her mom switched back into Amy's body. No. I believe her mom was trapped in that trophy and stuck there forever. Theres no way she could've escaped. That was some pretty powerful magicks and to reverse that you would need to perform some type of ritual.

I believe Amy became curious with the craft. Once she starting gaining some power, she let it get to her head. Once she was brought back to a human, she became jealous over Willow's power. So it boils down to envy IMO as to why she became the way she was in latter seasons.

This is exactly why I think Amy was the way she was later on. I think she resented Willow some for not changing her back from a rat sooner than she did, and like you said, she was envious of how powerful Willow had become. Amy even mentions her jealousy toward Willow in "The Killer In Me", explaining why she put the hex on her.
 
I interpreted this as Amy relating the first time it happened (a few months ago) but that Amy was given the chance to succeed herself at making the team only to have her mother take over when she failed.

Personally I think this was a twist too many and Catherine-as-Amy would have no reason to fake fear of herself in front of Willow and Buffy or even talk to them.
