I know I'm gonna catch some flak over this, but does anyone else watch this show?
I started watching it with my wife mainly because of the people who 'think' they can dance and made total fools of themselves. The ones that fell on their face were absolute bonus laughs.
But the funny thing is I started to get interested in how good some of these people are wether they have been taking lessons since they were kids or just kids that have taught themselves.
If you have just breezed by while channel surfing stop and give it a chance you will be surprised at how some of these people actually can turn themselves into Gumby positions.

thumbs up man.
I saw some of this, and I had to stop watching. It could have something to do with just seeing my dwarflet's dance school recital last weekend. The school has 900 students, ranging from the cute little 2 yr old ballerinas to adults who are veterans of years of classes. The dance troupes regularly win awards at competitions all over North America. The school books out the local theatre venue for 3 nights and 2 days. No show is ever the same (5 shows total), and some of the dancing is just downright breathtaking. I don't think any "self-taught" dancer has a hope in hell of winning this competition, just by the way it is set up. No street hip-hopper can learn to dance in Lyrical style in a week, let alone a day. On the other hand, someone with formal training can at least mimic the style of hip-hop, or "krump" (?) or whatever. It was painful to watch some of these folks take their lumps, figuratively as well as literally! It's like American Idol when someone who's never been told they have no talent finally gets it dropped on them in front of a couple million people...I have a hard time watching people being embarrassed...just the way I am, I guess...

That being said, once all the embarrassment is over with, I'm sure the dancing will be amazing...maybe I'll watch then, when the people aren't making fools of themselves...

Believe it or not some hip-hop street kids are some of the ones in the running because they adapt faster as they know how to 'mimic' a certain style of dance whereas the schooled kids are poorly adapting to a style outside of their training. Last night a hip-hopper did a modern dance and he had to pull back at times or he would have overpowered his schooled dancer.

I love this show. I love Benji and Danyelle. (Not sure if I spelled those names right. All these kids have weird names, though. Dmitry? Jaymz? Come on!)

I love how a big girl like Danyelle can be one of the better female dancers in the competition. That's awesome.

yup! their last routine was awesome!
i love this show too! i think allison is amazing. she was a bit better than ivan(?) in hip hop i think. i enjoy how they've got recording artists singin some songs this year. i know, it's to promote themselves, but hey, free mini concert! (and so far i like the artists that have sung--nelly furtado's album is great btw!)

I've watched it a couple of times. It's fairly entertaining. I love the hip-hop street dancers. They are great to watch.

I think though, the best part was when that girl finished her piece and then threw up all over the side of the stage. Now that's entertainment! 🙂

I've officially fallen in love with Ivan. He's so adorabley awesome. That Argentine Tango last night with Allison was so awesome. And I love Heidi and Ryan now, too. Benji and Donyelle disappointed me though. I wasn't entertained by their pop dance. Although, bottom three for me: Alexandra and Dmitry, Natalie and Musa, and Travis and Martha. They weren't that great last night.

I love this show. I never really got into American Idol, past the whole watching people make fools of themselves in the auditions, but I really like So you think you can dance. My favorite couples are Benji and Donyelle and Travis and Martha. I also love Dimitry, and its sad that he can't get a better partner. But, man can his hips move...😀

my wife said the same thing...also something about sculpted Adonis?
I don't really see Dmitry being in a Celine Dion show. Can anyone else envision this? Dmitry is great at what he does, but we all saw him try and do hip-hop. He's kind of a one-trick pony.

Although he is flippin' gorgeous.

😀

Oh, yes...definitely hot, good hip swiveler...but does anyone else get the maybe gay-vibe from him?

LOL! I think that I would too...okay, so newest episode on last night...what did ya'll think. I thought that Benji and Donyelle were good as always, but I was kinda impressed with Dimitry and Ashlee doing contemporary...hmmm, I wonder if he can do hip-hop? 😀

Who did ya'll vote for, and who do you think will go home tonight?

I voted for Dmitry and Ashlee about five times. I really liked their contempory and I really didn't like what Dan said about them. I think they "played their characters" pretty well. Ashlee's been getting better and better these couple of weeks, so I didn't think it was fair of him and Nigel to gang up on her like that.

I also voted for Ivan and Allison, cause like Mary said, she's a good pick to win the whole thing. I loved their West Coast Swing.

I think it's Jaymz and Jessica's night to go, though. I wasn't impressed by their hip-hop at all. Although, it was cool to see Jaymz stand up to the judges.

I'd say the bottom three are:

Jessica and Jaymz
Dmitry and Ashlee (Even though I loved their performance ...)
Travis and Martha

Not sure who the judges would send home, though. It always depends on the solos.

Some bday karma :)
Listening to Nigel last night as he was booting Jamyz and Jessica he basically put all the dancers on notice that they had better start putting thought into their solo dances.
It sounded like he was 'hinting' that the judges will be looking for the dancer who took the most from doing different styles to improve their own dance style. I think the winners are going to be the ones who took on every challenge with enthusiasm and clearly Benji and Donyelle are way out infront.

I definitely agree. I think that its a good thing as well because it was so very obvious that several of the dancers who were dancing for their lives last night just went on stage and improved big time. I didn't really think that they should've kicked off Jessica and Jamyz. To me, their solo's had the appearance of more thought into them then others. Plus, Jamyz totally stepped out of his normal routine and Jessica did a point routine which she hadn't done before. The others, I had seen them do the same thing before and it didn't really impress me at all. I was very disappointed with Heidi's solo. I'm not sure because she didn't put any thought into it, or if it was because she did and it sucked...

I am disappointed with last night's results.

I was disappointed in Heidi on Thursday. She was lucky she wasn't eliminated.

Allison was awesome though. I love when she dances.

And @Anita Blake: Apparently, Dmitry has a girlfriend ... Lucky girl ...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is just so not fair. (That he has a girlfriend, not that he's not gay...) :D
Mousa was totally ripped off tonight!!! Dmitry lost his 3rd partner tonight and his solo stunk! He stumbled 3 times on his solo. Mousa always took new styles with enthusiasm and did better then Dmitry over the weeks. I am disappointed.

I don't think so. I think Musa took each new style as a challenge, but he never really made any his own. He just gave each one his best ... but an awesome dancer needs to do more than just do his best. He has to be awesome. And Dmitry, whether his solo was bad or not, is a good dancer. Really, the only thing he was a little iffy on was his hip-hop and pop routines, at least, in my opinion.

Notice, how nobody is upset to Ashlee go. Its not that I didn't think she was a good dancer...I just didn't really like her. She just seemed sort of fake, ya know? But, I kinda figured Musa would go. He's never had any sort of formal training and so even though he was doing good, you still need experience in choreography, and he wasn't a choreography person. I am so happy that my favorite couple made it all the way through to the next phase without ever having to dance for their lives.

Go Donyelle and Benji!!!!

Yea but Nigel told Dmitry that he will need to do more then show his abs if he wants to stay on the show. But then Nigel tells Musa that he entertained the crowd??
I guess seeing as how Musa was a street dancer and he picked up, not mastered, different styles I had more respect for him then Dmitry. He is a trained dancer yet he could not do the hip-hop or pop.
It's like I said the street dancers learn new styles quicker and faster because they are quick at learning to mimick whereas professionally trained dancers in one style do not adapt as quickly to other styles. Plus they did the most whining when it was a dance that they did not know whereas streetdancers threw themselves into learning.
Guess I am a little bitter that Musa got the boot. Ashlee was all about the look and her security blanket was her bowler hat.
