Something You Dislike About Your Favourite Character

What?! She does love him, thats why they get together? If you mean when she is with Gunn? I have two points on that. First human emotions don't work that simply. If you love someone and you think there is a chance they might love you back you can't just switch your feelings off because they happen to be seeing someone else. Clearly until Fred starts seeing Gunn then Wes believes there is a good chance of a romance. Also, there is a connection between him and Fred even then, and it is possible that she had those kinds of feelings for him even while still being attracted to Gunn. Who knows.
Yes they get together after he's been to a lot of crap fawning over her. He even denied himself a chance at a great love with Lilah, and god knows who else. You cannot love like that, Fred didnt love him like that. Connection between fred and wes while she was seeing gunn?, yes, friendship, respect, admiration, but she loved Gunn, was passionally loving Gunn while wesley MOPPed. Fred was happy with gunn, she might had fallen for wesley later on but she loved gunn and was not suffering for wesley.

Wesley is almost a loser here. He should had moved on, and it might be that they might had ended together anyways, but he denied himself a good life, a happy life. Who knows maybe fred might not had been the one.

I agree with you about Fred loving Gunn at the time. I just don't think it is as simple to just move on as you seem to think Wes should have. Don't forget until she hooks up with Gunn in Waiting in the Wings narrative plays out like a love triagle where both seem to have a case for Fred's affections. Also the thing with him and Lilah was never about love.

It was simple, it was pretty much implied that she knew that they both had a thing for her, and she chose, she chose Gunn over him, he should had respected that and like normal people moved on. the thing with Lilah was provably one of the best thing he ever had, and it was a love coming. She truly cared for him and showed it, like when they fought the beast and she went to his apparment to make sure he was safe, when she stalked him to the university to see where he was going and discovred his fawning for fred. She was coming around and he broke her and even betrayed her, all to chase somebody who was some else's. That's why he felt so guilty when she died, that's why it was hard to cut her head off. He failed her and he knew it

But I don't know how he disrespected that. He didn't try to come in the way of Fred and Gunn. Yes he still carried a torch for her, but he did it privately. Like I said its not like you can turn feelings on and off like that.

What you describe is one reading of the Lilah/Wes relationship. I remain unconvinced by that reading, but respect why people think that.

Surely you have forgotten much, wesley kissed Fred while she and Gunn were still together. Gunn walked in on them and of course the fight kind of started. Fred and Gunn broke up becuase of Wesley and the killing of fred's proffesor which wesley tried to help her with and undermine Gunn.

Just watch those episode with Lilah and Wesley. The fact that she was the only one who gave him company when he was down should had been enough for him to give himself a chance and see if there was something there.
Also you cannot obsess over somebody who doesnt want you, it is not healthy

Yes, but Gunn was just as much at fault for the rivelary as Wes was. The kiss was the one time that he stepped over the line I will give you that. But then the fact that she didn't fight him off maybe points to the fact that she had feelings too which is what I suggested in a previous post?

See what you are saying on Wesley and Lilah, but the fact is he was only cut off from Angel and co. because he felt too ashamed to go back and also because Angel had not forgiven him for taking Connor. Don't forget Fred would often seek out Wesley's help. There was only true resentment from Angel.

You kiss a girl that is friends with you even sometimes not even friends and she might not push you away quickly, it doesnt mean that she has feeling for you, moslty it means that she's shocked about it.

He felt too ashamed to go back?, i will forgive you on this because you seem to have forgotten much. Wesley was threaten not to comeback by fred herself. Rather than feel too ashamed, he felt betrayed and when Gunn went to him to look for help, he pretty much told him much. He felt abandoned and stabbed in the back by his friends, this and the threat is why he didnt go back, he felt like the mistreated one

To be fair I have only watched Angel all the way through once so I might be forgetting the order of things🙂 But I am pretty sure that Fred suggests on a couple of occusions at least that they seek Wesley's help but that this idea is shut down by others in the group.

She does want him to be forgiven after sometime has passed, TO WHICH GUNN says, the only way for angel to forgive wesley is if he comesback with connor under his arms, and even then Angel might kill him on principal, Gunn is kind enjoying this and that's before the proffessor's death which when Gunn really start hating on wesley

you mean loving somebody that doesnt want you?, that will really screw up your life. Life is short, you cannot blind yourself to one love that doesnt reciprocates while there are many loves around that do reciprocate
Also you cannot obsess over somebody who doesnt want you, it is not healthy

I never thought of Wesley as obsessing over Fred. Fred/Gunn get together in 'Waiting In The Wings' and pretty much act all couple-y together through 'Couplet'. Wesley does act bitter or jealous (apart from one telling comment about Fred thinking of him as her brother) and doesn't really hold a torch for her or even obsess.
Wesley gets caught up with the Connor prophecy soon after, which takes up all his time as he frantically researches. The only bearing Fred/Gunn has on him here is adding to his sense of isolation.

It's only after 'Supersymmetry' that Wesley and Fred even interact in a positive way, and then they end up working closely together during the Apocalypse. This, coupled with Fred/Gunn's troubles (which are entirely seperate from Wes- he wasn't responsible for Gunn snapping a guys neck) leads to the messy triangle.

Even then, after the kiss Wesley backs right off from Fred and doesn't go near her again until some time in S5. And when he does he sorta kindsa asks Gunn's permission- that's not really obsession or 'getting in the way' of two people in any real sense.

Wesley is the classic 'guy who never gets the girl', he's utterly tragic. And even when he finally does, briefly, get Fred, she's ripped away from him in the most horrible way possible and something else now wears her face.

Your above posts describe Spuffy to a tee though. 😉

Just what I was trying to get across thank-you!

Oh I think he was obsessing alright, it's just that he was very good at repressing it thats all.

Funny that you mention Couplet, you seem to smartly have forgotten the scene where Fred and Gunn are together enjoying a funny laugh while a drooling and jealous wesley is staring at fred, a woman came in with a job on that same scene. She wanted them to follow her husband because she thought he was cheating on her, Angel did not want to take it, not supernatural, but seems she mentioned the word witch, Wesley told her that they'll take the job, all of this on the same scene while staring at Fred. Wesley called gunn to follow her husband to keep him away from fred but the whole thing backfired on him when fred came ing right after Gunn and told Wesley that they will not let him down...heheheh.

There was another episode episode where Wesley reprimended Gunn on his relationship with Fred while on the job which almost made gunn break up with fred.

But you know, lets forget about those incidents because fred and gunn were brand new and wesley was still stung. Ok the father will kill the son kept wesley petty much occupied for a while, Lets move on to dark-wesley. Wesley is in the hospital after angel had tried to killed him. Fred comes in and delivers the ultimatum, it is over, dont comeback, you betrayed us, at this point he needs to move on and he does. He has no friends and starts a relation with Lilah on mutual usage, the relationship is hot, sexy and great. Lilah comes one day with a gift to his apartment with plans of staying over, but Wesley blows her off, saying that he has to go some where. Lilah follows him, and guess where the guy goes, he goes to watch Fred give a speak at a university, he was all giggly and fawning over her while watching her, Lilah was there looking at him and his stupid happy face. Now at this point he should had moved on completely from fred, for godsake after all that he's been through at this point, not to mention that he has a new relationship, a new chance to start over, and he still fawning over Fred. Fred is happy with Gunn.....oh and did i mention that the day before Fred had to speak at the university that she was eating and devouring gunn all over, my goodness i think it was on that same episode where Fred became the sexiest i've ever seen her, throwing herself at Gunn like a slut. But you have Dumbo Wesley fawning all over fred at the university.

Alright, alright, Wesley is one of my favorite 2, so i dont want to hurt him much, but the fact remains that he is still thinking of Fred. After the university incident, Lilah still wants to be with the dumbo.....dont be stubborn Wesley take the opportunity..... Lilah decided to dressed like fred because she thought that's what Wesley wanted, well she wasnt wrong, he loved it and had sex with her like that. Now you are claiming that wesley is not obsessed with fred, ok... Wesley little by little is getting back with the angels. After the beast almost killed the Angels, lilah went to Wesley appartment clearly worried about him, he instead of thanking her, decided to break up with her, talking about the colorlines of black and white and he decided to take a side as for the reason of the break up. But we know and Lilah knows why he broke up with her and she told him so, Fred, but as Lilah said we all know which color fred prefers, black 🙂. Around this time is when wesley kisses fred and makes a play for her which caused him and Gunn to come to blows, and gunn and Fred officially ended.

I love Wesley but there's no doubt that he was too obsessed with fred and never moved on, and it affected his life for the worse. He was too stubborn and too blind to see other opportunities for a happier life. Yes his love for Fred made him partly miserable and was partly the caused of his death. Lilah could had saved him much pain, Lilah was one of these great opportunities that came to him, she stood between him and his doom, but he failed her and his doom did not failed to find him

You have a strange definition for the term 'obsessed' since you essentially agree with me that between the end of 'Couplet' and 'Supersymmetry' Wesley stayed away from Fred. That's not obsession or stalking or any sort of unhealthy behaviour.
You forgot that Wesley also reprimanded Fred in 'Loyalty' when she (unhelpfully) suggested that he should try and date their current 'client'- that's treating Fred as a work collegue and nothing more.

Of course Wesley likes her and continues to even though Fred is still quite taken with Gunn (it's only post-Sydel's death that flaws begin to appear in that relationship which is again, nothing to do with Wesley's actions, but Gunn's).

Obsessed in acting the way Angel did with Darla in S2 of of his show, or Spike with Buffy for S5, 6 and 7, or hell even Buffy's behaviour after she gets dumped by Parker for a short time.

By your defintion: Xander is 'obsessed' with Buffy for two whole seasons of Buffy, Riley is also 'obsessed' with Buffy, since he likes her in The Initiative' before she likes him, Anya is 'obsessed' with Xander throughout S3 and 4.
Being attracted to somebody and holding a torch for them is not in any way obsession, especially if there's distance between the two, like there was with Wesley and Fred.
I just don't get the sense of 'obsession', just strong attraction. Which, last time I checked, is a healthy human response that Wesley doesn't even act upon until it becomes clear that the attraction is reciprocol.

Am with you on this one. And I don't think he is living on planet earth rather a planet where everything is black and white and people are expected to turn their feelings on and off at a rim.

No it's obsession, you are confusing obsession with crush and like. If you like someone and you make your feelings known to that person and get rejected or that person choses someone else and instead of moving on you still let those feelings fester and occupy part of your time to the point that it affects your behavior, you are obsessed. Wesley was obsessed, just because he didnt act crazy and criminal about it doesnt mean he wasnt.

Xander is a douchebag who feels entitled to buffy's life and was given too muchpower by the writers over buffy
Wesley was a stubborn dumbo who did not get that he should move on when a girl is not into him

I don't think I'm the one that's confused. For obsession to be a thing the person has to be...obsessed. The clue's in the name.

BUFFY: (about Parker) I know. He's manipulative and shallow and why doesn't he want me?

Buffy then gets obsessed with Parker for several episodes, even though she gets catagorically rejected by him from the very start. People are human and flawed and not always as forthright as they should be- that's where drama comes from a lot of these times. Buffy and Angel have many soap opera elements to them.
Basically you are describing one set of circumstances/behaviour and saying 'this is the correct way, anything that does not conform to this is wrong and obsessive and stupid.'
That's a pov of course, I just think its a incredibly simplistic view.

We are discussing the meaning of Obsession and now you want to change it into me saying my opinion is the correct way?

Yes Buffy was obsessed with parker for a little bit after he dumped her but she soon got over it and moved on, this is my whole point with Wesley, that's why i told you to forget the first few days of Fred and Gunn relationship because wesley was understandably stung. You can obsess over someone but at some point you got to move on because it becomes unhealthy.

I love Xander but I hate how he feels like he owns Willow and Buffy. Whenever they have a date or meet someone he always has something to say about it and has this 'holier than thou' attitude and assumes he is allowed an opinion on what they do with every aspect of their lives. Especially with Buffy's relationships with Angel and Spike. He almost talks to her like she's a slut and it really makes me want to slap him.

But where me and thetopher are disagreeing mostly is the part where you seem to think Wesley acted badly towards Gunn and Fred and made and let his feelings for Fred get in the way. To me the evidence just isn't there to back that up. Gunn is just as much at fault if not more for the break down of his relationship with Fred.
